4/5 'Gun fights weren’t about who shot first, they were about who got shot first.' Buddy read with Justin Biebers biggest fan Drew As you all 4/5 'Gun fights weren’t about who shot first, they were about who got shot first.' Buddy read with Justin Biebers biggest fan Drew As you all know Michael R. Fletcher is my new obsession, I love the way he writes so much. I love all his fucked up, gritty, unique, badass stories. He is definitely one of my favourite authors and this book cemented that fact even more. Going into this novel I was abit apprehensive mainly because most fantasy writers who try their hand at writing Sci-fi fail miserably imo, but I'm happy to announce that Fletcher nailed it. This is actually my first ever Cyberpunk book and it blew me away. I didn't really know what to expect from a Cyberpunk book. I normally stay far away from 'futuristic' novels I just find them so unrealistic & super geekish (not hating on anyone who loves this shit). I just don't understand the terminology used because I'm a simpleton. However I feel Ghosts of Tomorrow was extremely realistic, fun, believable and easy to follow. When I imagine the future, I actually imagine computers, robots and a virtual reality. This is exactly what this book is about. It's not ridiculous with hover cars and laser beams, but instead scarily real. Will our future consist of a Virtual Reality? When our children's, children's, children's, children die will their brains be scanned to a USB stick and they will exist in a virtual reality fucking the world up from the inside of a computer making them basically immortal? I'm not sure, but I'm pretty fucking sure that this is probably the most fucked up thing I could think of. Why? Because it seems so real. Being unable to die and live as a sentient scares the shit out of me. I do not want to be a computer or have my head removed from my body and scanned to a goddamn hard drive. But I wouldn't mind being a robot and blowing shit up... But in all seriousness everyone should have this book on their gigantic TBR pile, it's not just about the interweb and robots, it's also about mafia gangsters who steal children and turn them into killing machines and it's an extremely chilling story. "Meat brains were the past. They age and rot and die, doomed from the day they’re born. Sickness, disease, cancer. Those were yesterday’s problems. Tomorrow was a whole new reality, one without filth and famine and poverty. Virtuality is the new reality." The Children are the future. The story is a multiple POV that follows a whole bunch of people set on earth in the future when virtuality is the new reality, there's an autistic girl named 88 who has her brain scanned into a hard drive, the South America mobsters are using her to run their businesses. They thought she was a moron, a mental cripple. A victim. But 88 has been underestimated and wants freedom she has come to see humanity as a threat and she can only have her freedom by finding a boy name Archaeidae another child who was scanned but instead he is six limbed Chassis and a killing machine. (That badass ninja dude on the cover with the samurai swords, yeah that one). Griffin a junior investigator is put on a special case find all the mobsters illegal crèches a place where they raise children so they can scan their brains, but Griffin is in a dilemma he falls in love with his partner and must protect her aswell as himself while fighting a war full of chassis, gangsters and lunatic scanned brains. Abdul a depressed 17 year old boy who is now a chassis after being killed in a secession war in Old Montreal who is assigned as Griffins Heavy Weapons support, who doesn't know a thing about killing and hates himself. Who will come out on top the good guys or the bad guys? Well you should go read it and find out. “Hindsight is merciless,” said Abdul. “And self-pity a useless indulgence.” This novel is actually Fletchers debut, I thought Beyond Redemption was his first book but I was wrong, this story is 88 but revamped and renamed as Ghosts of Tomorrow. I just don't understand how Fletcher is still so underrated when he creates such beautiful vivid worlds full of badassery. He is an author that will make you think and his writing is so deep. He needs to be on everyone's favourite author list, stop reading mindless crap people and come read some of Fletchers work, you'll definitely thank yourself for reading his shite. His characterisation is fantastic, you have characters like 88 and Archaeidae who are unhinged, emotionally damaged killers, who you will either love or hate. I personally loved both and found my murderous darlings to be quite precious. But then you'll easily love his good guys especially Abdul, who is always trying his best to be a better person.. or should I say the best killing machine chassis he can be. I also loved Nadia, I found her to be an extremely relatable character “Scars are sexy. War wounds are sexier. Missing limbs...” She fanned herself like some dame from one of those old black and white movies. I thought I was the only fictional character who loves disfigured men. Turns out Nadia is my twin. Your probably wondering why I didn't give this novel five stars? Well I had a few issues, firstly I'm not that into Sci-Fi. I find it interesting however like I said earlier, I find the terminology hard to follow, yes this book is an easier read then some, but the first 22% is extremely slow and very confusing, it took me 30 pages to realise that 88 was a scanned brain. I also had to google a shit ton of words. So you must be patient, at 23% in I promise you won't be able to put the novel down because there is so much badassery happening, like there's explosions, gun fights, people losing limbs and murderous computers. What else could you ask for? Nothing. I personally thought this novel wasn't going to live up to the expectations I have for Fletchers novels, I was waiting a long time for action and unexpected things to happen. Yes they did eventually happen, but my god that start was freaking slow.
This novel is freakily good and will have you thinking about it for a long time. So all in all this is a great read that I really enjoyed, it's EXTREMELY interesting. And complex. I actually never thought I'd say that about a Cyberpunk book. Definitely recommended to everyone who loves gritty Sci-fi, books about the future and everyone who is a mega fan of Fletchers Manifest Delusions series. Also if you liked the film Edge of Tomorrow, you'll enjoy this. Ps."Is there anything sexier than nerd chicks?" Why don't guys in real life think like this? If they did I wouldn't be single.. Actually I probably would be, but it's nice to dream. You can find this review and my other reviews at Booksprens. ...more |

4/5★★★★ Buddy Read with team Howlers; Speedy eye Oppa, Whorefart Aga, Dewi, Minxy & Voldemort “The Reaper has come. And he’s brought hell with him.” A 4/5★★★★ Buddy Read with team Howlers; Speedy eye Oppa, Whorefart Aga, Dewi, Minxy & Voldemort “The Reaper has come. And he’s brought hell with him.” After thinking on this book for a night I realize I have a lot to say about it, good and bad. Read at your own risk because I'm about to bring the rant, minor spoilers may be included in this review. So I thought Morning Star was a great conclusion to a fantastic series the Epilogue was gorgeous but very short. Let me start with saying I'm going to have an unpopular opinion this time, after completing Morning Star I am a little unsatisfied, I am left feeling like I need more and I'm kinda disappointed. [image] I personally felt like novel was too full of things that didn't matter, then the last part of the plot and the ending was great but so rushed. I feel like if Pierce Brown just published the last quarter only obviously less rushed, it would have been a more satisfying read for me. Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed reading this novel, I just can't help but feel like this whole book was fillers, and most of the story was unnecessary to the plot. Like this whole book was just basically talking blah blah blah.. [image] The plot was interesting and engaging enough sure, but there wasn't enough action this time around. So like I said if this book had have been the last quarter it would be on my favorite ever shelf next to Golden Son. This is probably even my least liked of the three, definitely the weakest (sorry). But I'm not hating,I did like this book, it just had a few issues that really stood out to me, especially after reading Edge of Bubbles mini review on this book. Also for a whole entire series i kinda found alot of themes samey same as others, like the competition unoriginal, seriously Mars didn't even feel like Mars in book one it was so earthy, Space war also unoriginal. Really there was nothing new in this series, however this series does those 'stereotypical themes' justice, it is interesting, brutal, gorey, full of foul language and foulery (made up word) aka sack fungus. But still something new would be great. Pierce Brown has a funny sense of humor and it shows through his novels, he even managed to add a part into Morning Star that was a quote from one of my favorite movies Friday. The infamous "bye Felicia" & he pulled it off, what a funny human being. :') [image] “My name is Felicia au…” I feint a whip at her face. She brings her blade up, and Victra goes diagonal and impales her at the belly button. I finish her off with a neat decapitation. “Bye, Felicia.” Victra spits, turning to the last Praetorian.” I'm glad there is so many great things happening in the background to help relieve the brutally & mind fuckery of the plot, I feel like if there wasn't a certain character (Sevro) I would have given this book three stars. Hang on a second this is meant to be the 'good' section and I'm still ranting! Okay let me try again. I loved watching the characters grow up together and grow as friends, it touched my black withered little heart. I also enjoyed the advanced technology in the story, pulse weapons, Moon Beams, Space Ships with AI. Pierce Brown also plays tricks on his reader by making them believe things that aren't true, I nearly hyperventilated a hundred times, like shit it was intense to read he also knows how to mind fuck you superbly, and make u cry like a baby. Im definitely a fan for life. It also opened my eyes and proved not all Space operas & Dystopian books are not all terrible and im looking forward to looking into both genres more. Reading the whole series in first person POV was shit. I did feel frustrated at times with the first person POV however thats just me, I'm used/like reading multiple third person POV. So it did get overwhelming at times. Also this totally is not a YA, please do not assume that it is and buy it for your 12 year old kid, if you do they will be running around talking about sack fungus & smelly balls while trying to chop each other to pieces with your garden tools. I loved the pace of all three books. Book two being my favorite of them all due to the brutalness and having an amazing ending. The plot is unpredictable & full of twist. Some of the twists I did guess in advance. Cried at happy moments and sad moments, Pierce Brown definitely tells an emotional story. The writing is sensational. Overall a satisfactory series. It's great, it got my tick of approval and is now currently being worshipped by my fan girl self.I loved the twists towards the end of Morning Star, pretty impressed but not wowed, definitely looking forward to a Movie aswell as another series being released this year, apparently the new books are set ten years after the conclusion of Morning Star, so hopefully some questions I have will be answered in the new series. So this book continues from the massive cliffhanger in Golden Son, these are not spoilers and actually mentioned on the blurb. Darrow is captured and tortured by the enemy, because it's Darrow and he is like a cockroach (ha) he escapes and continues planning his rebellion against the golds. Some old friends join him and others go against him, so it was interesting to see Darrow in the predicament of having to kill old friends to reach his ultimate goal. He also loses some of his greatest friends *sobs uncontrollably*. I thought this book had some fantastic & rememberable moments. I am sad to say goodbye to the characters I have grown so fond of. Can't wait for the new series. The character development was awesome throughout the series, we watched kids turn into adults. However I had an issue with Darrow the never dying cockroach. Is it just me or was Darrow a tad over the top arrogant, like I feel like I liked his character a lot less in this book. I also hated the fact that the whole book was Darrow making decisions etc like can someone else take charge for awhile? Like I get that his the captain, but his always wrong. I actually wish that something actually went according to plan in this book for a change. Also thinking about Darrow I have another issue, seriously like why does he let all bad guys get away with everything, friends who have in the past tried to kill him he happily welcomes back in his life with open arms. Like this quote made me think he turn back badass. I am not alone. I am not his victim. So let him do his worst. I am the Reaper. I know how to suffer. I know the darkness.” However he didn't. It was sad to see friends betray him but he is just dumb and naive. I did not like him having a conscious and mourning old friends aswell as friends turned traitor. It made me sad, so I hate him for it haha. Sevro's personality in this book was my favorite of all three. Sevro went from a funny smart ass teen to a beautiful smart ass Adult. He was my favorite character and stayed consistent for me through all three books. I absolutely adored him and Adult Sevro (in book three) was my favorite. I love HIM. He has been welcomed into my ever growing harem of book boyfriends. Oh and I finally got my ship yay and predicted it from the beginning :). *howls at the moon* Mustang is a wonderful character, I definitely had my ups and downs with her. But it's safe to say I absolutely adore her. I liked reading her development through this series, she is one character that grew the most on me. After book two I felt betrayed but it's okay now. I also throughly enjoyed Victra she was another character who stood out, what a badass. Ragnar was another perfect faultless character and another of my favorites from the series. Hyrg la, Ragnar A few of the friendships absolutely gave my heart a hard time, one being the bromance between Sevro and Darrow, towards the end of book three I realized I didn't actually like Darrow that much but instead was in love with his friendship with Sevro, all you folks out there know Sevro captured my heart in book one. I love them so much as friends, I love watching them grow together. One point in this book had me crying after they cried to each other. My number one ship forever is Sevorrow. “You tell anyone I cried, I’ll find a dead fish, put it in a sock, hide it in your room, and let it putrefy.” The friendship between Sevro, Ragnar and Darrow. Okay so this three way bromance was my favorite thing in the book (apart from Sevro) seriously the banter was good and they had fun together killing people. Seriously I love these three as friends. Especially Ragnar & Sevro *heart eyes* "You! Troll!" Sevro shouts. "I'm a terrorist warlord! Stop throwing me. You made me drop my candy!" Sevro looks at the floor of the hallway. "Wait. Where is it? Dammit, Ragnar. Where is my peanut bar? You know how many people I had to kill to get that? Six! Six!" Sorry but not sorry, one more thing that didn't sit well for me was the big build up for Darrow wanting revenge, I feel like he didn't do himself justice, so the whole revenge thing kinda didn't happen.. How bloody dare Pierce Brown promise me revenge and blood without delivering it. [image] Also the ending how they handled the worst villain ever was extremely disappointing, (view spoiler)[ losing his tongue and dying by the noose wasn't enough in my opinion for the Jackal, he was an evil dog and made so many people suffer but Darrow once again let him off, he should have been a caged animal for everyone to torture and shit on until he ate himself to death. (hide spoiler)] rant over. I recommended this to everyone over 16, even if you don't like Sci-fi or fantasy this book is definitely a winner. I also feel like this book would be a great introduction to Sci-Fi. Please don't mind the fact that it is YA (once again I need to mention this shit) or in the kids section of your library, this is not a kids story. If my child read this book I would be so concerned it is full of violence, swearing, rape, cannibalism & slavery. Hence the over 16. If everyone's awesome reviews on this book aren't enough to convince you to read it, believe me when I say I'm even trying to get my husband to read it, because I know he will love it. Trust me on this he is a total book hater, I can't even get him to read a book if I read it out loud. (Lol maybe this is the reason why his a book hater?? I have an annoying high pitched voice). So go do yourself a favor and read it, it's bloodydamn good. Whole Series rating: (totally stole this idea from Petrik) 13.5/15 ...more |

That MOTHERFUCKING ENDING. [image] I AM DEAD BECAUSE MY MIND JUST EXPLODED KA B O O M ! Hear that sound? Relax. it's just the sound of my mind being blown and my brains splattering the walls. [image] Holy balls is right folks. How the hell did the author think of such an awesome ending?! Sweet baby Jesus it's been 24 hours since I finished and I need a whole bottle of wine (to myself). This goddamn book has killed me, I am now currently deceased. Sorry but I have to say it again; THAT ENDING.. I have honestly in my whole 24 years of existence, never been so mind blown before. That cliffhanger left me breathless, strained & stressed, as soon as I put this book down I ran into my lounge room like a possessed mad woman and tore book three off the shelf and started straight away. I thought book one was good, book two was even better! *puts on favourite shelf and starts worshipping for eternity* Warning and an apology in advance for anyone reading this rubbish. I'm actually at a lost for words, so this is just word vomit. I feel like if I vomited out a pile of dog shit it would be coherent & more interesting then this review. “You are but a mortal," Roque whispers in my ear, riding his horse alongside the chariot, as per tradition. "And a whorefart," Servo calls from the other side. "Yes," Roque agrees solemnly. "That too.” Did I read that shit correctly or are my eyes deceiving me... A whorefart?! I'm pissing myself & stealing this brilliant saying. I'm so glad this surpassed my expectations. I thought I hated space opera turns out I secretly love it, all thanks to this book. I enjoyed this book more then book one, all because it felt more spacey. In book one the competition on Mars felt like Earth to me so it was kinda unoriginal. I'm happy I can't say that about this book, it felt like a proper Sci-Fi. I loved the space ships I loved the pulse weapons I actually just loved everything, the world building was fantastic, the character development (especially Darrow) was so realistic and awesome & it was so exciting the action didn't stop once. I'm also happy to say I've grown use to the first person POV now and it isn't bothering me at all now, I find comfort in Darrows POV for some reason, mainly because I know he is a crazy dude and he will fuck the golds up. So I'm happy to safely say this book was more my cup of tea then book one, it had more fighting & action. We also didn't go through 200 pages of information dumpage. *phew wipes sweat from forehead* I couldn't get enough of Darrow in this instalment, it was so refreshing to see him fail & go through hell for the second time. (Yay?) Also my baby, my darling, my Sevro. I swear I'm jealous of other women liking him, I love him that much and he isn't even real. There were some moments in this book i truly adored. Like when him and Darrow confess everything to each other what a wonderful heart warming bromance. Also his entrance towards the beginning *heart eyes* I love HIM. *howls at the moon like a mad bitch* “You're a sinister little shit, aren't you?" Victra asks. Also my new second favourite character of the series is.... drum roll please...... The big badass Ragnar, what a cool dude. He is like a space version of the bloody nine. I wanna see him go batshit & kill everyone. [image] "Like a sheep invited to a banquet in his honor thrown by wolves.” I literally can't fault this book I'm just so happy, thrilled & impressed with the hottie known as Pierce Brown. Awesome book dude and if you ever see me at a convention prepare yourself. *wink* [image] Just take all my money Pierce Brown & give me more badassery and keep quenching my blood thirst. Please & thank you. [image] I do not recommend this book to anyone under the age of 16 no idea why this brutal masterpiece is on the fucking YA shelf. Should be military space opera or just plain old Sci - Fi. Who I do recommend this to is everyone who loves a good blood bath, also I think just everyone on this planet should read this book it's awesome and full of so many unexpected twists. I think you would also enjoy this if your a whorefart like me. 9/10 ...more |

3/5 ★★★ "A black hole was the perfect place to contemplate death. There was nothing in the universe that could last forever. Not stars. Not mat3/5 ★★★ "A black hole was the perfect place to contemplate death. There was nothing in the universe that could last forever. Not stars. Not matter. Nothing.” This book had me on the fence for either a three or four star rating, I settled for 3.5 right smack bang in the middle. Haha. I'm going keep this review short & sweet. [image] “It was more the prospect of getting mugged. Or harassed. Or stabbed. She’d seen a few people that definitely looked stabby.” I picked this book up after I saw two of my favourite GR users reading it. The thing with this book is that it's a character focused plot, yes I normally like character focused plots but I just found this book to be boring and very 'meh', the plot was so boring & lacked action. I feel like this book would be better suited as a TV series rather then a book. So basically it's about a crew onboard a long haul space craft. They are like miners who punch holes in space. The captain looks after his family so wants better jobs, he sees a job advertised to travel to a planet that is currently at war. A whole bunch of shit happens and that's basically the plot haha. So like I said I was bored, it was like days of our lives only with aliens. I've seen this book compared to Startrek.. This book is much much better then Startrek (sorry guys) Startrek is the biggest load of wank I've ever seen in my life. Startrek rant over.. The pacing of the book was far to slow for me. I will check out the other books in this series but it definitely isn't a favourite. [image] "and all the people seeing us fly by are like, oh my stars, look at that totally amazing ship, what genius tech patched together such a thing, and I’m like, oh, that’s me, Kizzy Shao, you can all name your babies after me – whooosh" I did however fall head over heels with all the members aboard the wayfarer, all the characters were so special in their own way. My favourite characters were Kizzy, Jenks & Ashby. Whatever planet Kizzy is from I think I was born there aswell, she's the most relatable character I've ever come across, I swear we are twins :). Seriously I wish my love bun was a real person we would be BFFL <3 '“Well, if you’re going to live on this ship, you’re going to have to learn to speak Kizzy.” Things I liked; ◆ I love the diversity, all characters were different. I also liked the fact that it was very realistic, all the aliens judged everyone for being different just like real life. Some aliens were so racist, but then there was Rosemary who is human and intrigued by the other races, she was so curious and respectful of everyone. Definitely not a hater haha. ◆ I love the fact that on the wayfarer they are one big happy family, it didn't matter where you came from or what race you were they were all treated equally and everyone was a part of the crew :') ◆ I absolutely adored the aspect of forbidden love; man with alien, man with AI & interspecies girl on girl relationships. ◆ I LOVED all characters I felt like I was a member of the wayfarer while reading it. ◆I LOVED KIZZY, everything about her was amazing. ◆ It was hilarious that half the crew were stoners haha. ◆ It made me laugh out loud everytime I read it, seriously the crew are so funny ! ◆ Most importantly the friendship between the characters had me feeling all warm and fuzzy ! It was definitely filled with rainbows, puppy dogs & kittens :D Things I didn't like; ◆ Slow paced plot. ◆ Lack of action ◆ When the people robbed their ship, they let it happen.. Like common buy some fucking guns and kill those bastards. ◆ Boring Plot (like seriously where's the action at) ◆ Hardly any blood, guts and killing (like I was dying of blood thirst while reading this) The pros out way the cons and this was a great, lighthearted read that I really enjoyed reading it was so fun ! :). “Punch ‘em in the face! Monkeys like it, too!” Who I would recommend this to? to all fans of sci fi or anyone looking for something different & diverse with a character driven plot. Also if your anything like me and obsessed with space & the unknown you will enjoy reading this. ...more |

4 GOLDEN STARS ★★★★ "I am the Reaper and death is my shadow." [image] I have had Red Rising on my shelf for quite a while now and never pick 4 GOLDEN STARS ★★★★ "I am the Reaper and death is my shadow." [image] I have had Red Rising on my shelf for quite a while now and never picked it up. I was really put off by the fact it is shelved as a YA book, a few friends mentioned reading it and I thought "why not?". After 20 or so pages I thought "meh" then around 40 pages in I got a pleasant surprise and a taste of how brutal the story is, this drew me in and I was then on addicted. You know it's a great story if the author has you smitten over the MC and crying your eyes out by page 70. But this book was just so much better then I expected it was going to be. Seriously I really enjoyed reading Red Rising, I will be starting the next book straight away. This book is addictive, I devoured it all in under five hours & can't wait to devour the whole series. [image] “... You have to pull the feet to break the neck. They let the loved ones do it.” This book doesn't feel very YA-ish to me, yes it does have some very stereotypical tropes in it.. competitions, MC age etc. but honestly that's where it stops, this book felt very grown up to me. The tropes however that it did have in the plot where very well done and probably the best competition I've seen in this genre. One of my biggest book peeves is over used plots, eg Hunger Games, Throne of Glass, Divergent, Red Queen (all the above are some of my most hated books. Ever.) I also normally hate 'dystopian' novels but I feel the Sci-fi aspects made up for it. I hate first person POV with a passion and this book is first person POV and very hard to follow in the beginning, I'm used to it now although I still don't like it and sometimes felt strained while reading it, however I was so entertained by Red Rising that I nearly forgot the bad things, the author (who is also a deadset hottie) is an extremely talent writer, this is a debut novel and it's absolutely remarkable I'm blown away. I heard they are making this into a movie and I CANT WAIT I really hope it is as brutal as the book is. “The measure of a man is what he does when he has power.” The plot is awesome and very interesting it remind me of Elysium mixed with Hunger Games. I for one hate Hunger Games with a passion but loved Red Rising. So if you hate Hunger Games still give this book a go, i bet you won't regret it! So basically it's a story set in the future on Mars where humanity is split into several different classes, The Golds who are godlike they are the strongest and the most intelligent, they are also the rulers of humanity. The Silvers who are the rich ones, they are basically greedy business men. The Whites are the priesthood, and also the rarest of all colours. The Coppers are the bureaucrats. The Blues are pilots. The Yellows are the doctors. The Greens are the tech heads. The Violets are the artists. The Oranges are the grease monkeys. The Greys are the law. The Browns & Pinks are used as slaves (pinks also all used for pleasure). Obsidian are basically monsters made for war & The Reds who are the workers. The Reds work in the mines to make planets habitual for the other races, they are the lowest colour and the other call them Ants. Basically the book is about love, racism, slaves, heartbreak & revenge. We follow our MC Darrow, he is a red working in the mines and one day the unthinkable happens and his life is torn upside down. He is heartbroken and swears revenge on the Golds. I can't give away too much because the plot is awesome, GO READ IT YOURSELF but I will say it's full of twists, some parts where predictable but still enjoyable. When Darrow is broken he turns into a Revenge hungry man. He is basically driven by one goal revenge and he is full of bloodlust. I love Darrow so so much ! He is so fucking brutal it's crazy, he is a good man with a good heart. Although get in his way and you will definitely pay the price (death). The nickname describes him best they call him the Reaper. [image] Mustang is another amazing character, I was intrigued as soon as she was introduced. She's a mixture of rainbows & badassery. I adore Mustang. [image] '"Trouble?" Cassius asks. "What you going to do, kill the Jackal?" "Yes" Sevro looks quietly at Cassius. "I'll put a dagger in his throat and then carve a hole till I see his spine." The tension is enough to make me uneasy. "You can't be serious," Quinn asks quietly. "He's serious."' So my favourite character of the series is.. Drum roll please... Sevro. Yep the lonely, savage psycho is my favourite... I LOVE HIM. The first time he opened his mouth in this book he had me. What a delightful little smart arse. How can you not like the guy who kills wolves with his bear hands ? *waggles one eyebrow like a sleaze* I was so happy to watch the friendship grow between Darrow & Sevro I love them as friends and think in future books they will be a deadly combo. Sevro Sevro Sevro .. I could literally write my whole review on him. He has honestly slithered into my heart and my top ten favourite male characters ever. What a crazy mother fucker. He gets my RED RISING, Can't wait to make some bloodydamn wolf babies with this creature. Also I have a ridiculous love for the Howlers.. Can I join in their crew too :) ? [image] 'Most of the house has woken by the time Sevro drags a dead wolf by it legs. It's already gutted and skinned. "Goblin has brought victuals!" Cassius applauds daintily."hmm. We will need firewood. Does anyone know how to make a fire?" Sevro does. Cassius grins. "Of course you do, Goblin." "Found the sheep too easy to kill?" I ask. "Where'd you get the weapon?" "Born with them." His fingernails are bloody. Antonia wrinkles her nose. "Where the hell were you raised?" Sevro presents his middle finger to her, the crux. "Ah" Antonia sniffs. "Hell, then".' Okay can someone please take this off the fucking YA shelf please? It makes me ill even thinking that something so amazing with murder, rape (not cool but brutal) & cannibalism could be classified as the worst genre in the world. This book is not for tweeny boppers. 'Sevro only has one eye now. So he is the one eyed-demon the Apollonian emissary warned me about' A thrilling fast paced plot. Kinda cliche, but absolutely awesome and had some original aspects. Had a lot of brutal moments and a few badass characters. I recommend this book to anyone who likes Sci-Fi / Fantasy, or if your just looking for some badassery. 7.5/10. 4/5 "AM I NOT MERCIFUL ?" So this book, this fucking book gave me the FEELS. I actually enjoyed it so much more then I thought I would, I hate YA as 4/5 "AM I NOT MERCIFUL ?" So this book, this fucking book gave me the FEELS. I actually enjoyed it so much more then I thought I would, I hate YA as a genre & never understand why most of the books have so much HYPE when they are utterly shit, so going into Illuminae I wanted to hate it, I tried to hate it.. But I couldn't. Reason being that it is so different like HOLY SHIT I've never read anything like it, yes somethings in the plot are really well used in sci fi. But that dialogue whoa, at first I was confused and then I grew to absolutely love it, it has been purposely written as an investigation report/file. I felt like a detective while reading it. I timed myself while reading it for fun because I knew I'd devour it, only took me three hours to read, lol. "He presses the triggers. And like roses in his hands, death blooms.” Okay so this book had just the right amount of everything for me. It was different/unique, the plot not the most original with the battle spaceships, living in space, AI, zombies etc but it flowed smoothly and was fast paced so I loved it. It definitely doesn't lack action like I was ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT THE ENTIRE TIME, seriously I was captivated the entire time and I wasn't bored once. I did however like/dislike the blank out swear words, it distracted me from the story so I was annoyed but then again it was fun trying to figure out what they were saying and making up my own swear words haha. It had a romantic plot, which kinda sucks however it didn't take away from the thrilling story line or the badassery, I must say I ended up kinda liking it :), some part were so cute that they touched my soul and gave me the feels. . I liked all the characters and enjoyed every interaction between them, even the secondary characters I enjoyed, I loved McNulty him and Ezra crack me the fuck up. I actually would have a smile on my face the whole time reading their emails. “She is catalyst. So Kady our MC, I've heard a lot of people hate her... HOW!? She is so brilliant, she is smart, funny, strong and most of all she is so CUTE. I literally liked her from the first chapter. She is a very relatable character and is exactly what is expect from a 17 year old girl. She is definitely one of my book heroes now! I feel like I need to go dye my hair pink just to be like Kady. Kady is a character I feel comfortable with young girls idolising.. I idolise her myself :') [image] [image] “I should have told you I loved you every day. I should have given you the stars.” So don't get me wrong, I like Ezra he is hilarious however, I have this thing were I hate wimpy needy men.. That is exactly what Ezra is, he is brave but not very and he is so fucking needy like common man GROW A PAIR ! He definitely wasn't my favourite character but I think he is hot AF & a great guy also (view spoiler)[ when I thought he was dead I was sad (hide spoiler)]. I do ship him and Kady together <3 [image] “Interviewer: So. Tell me about your mother. THIS COULD BE CONSIDERED SPOILERISH CONTENT “Before this moment, I have never whished to be something other than what I am. So my favourite character was actually the insane computer AIDEN. In the story when they first started talking about AIDEN I seriously just thought he was an evil computer then BAM he was rebooted and holy shit... I AM IN LOVE WITH A COMPUTER ! "AM I NOT MERCIFUL" --> need this quote tattooed on me RIGHT NOW. "tiny beautiful human"... Where can I get an AIDEN !? “They are beyond me. Ps Can they please make this into a video game and movie immediately “Perhaps bravery is simply the face humanity wraps around its collective madness.” This book definitely exceeded my expectations, it definitely hasn't converted me to a YA lover, but I definitely respect the genre more then I did and know that there are definitely some goodies out there. I wish I had have given this book a go earlier, I can't wait to read book 2. I must say I'm now happily on the fandom bandwagon for illuminae and recommend this story to everyone. P.s.s Look at these pages *heart eyes* so beautiful [image] EPIC Buddy read with my girls; Jenn,Ryan,Em,Mayflower ,Sana&Lovely Erin ...more |

[image] ^^ accurate picture of my face when the action started. Okay so let me start by saying this book was awesome. I enjoyed reading it so much. I feel like this book should be illegal it's that good. The plot was fast paced and full of twists. This book is FUCKING EXCITING? I feel like I was on the edge of my seat the whole entire time. I love sci fi and this story is a fine example of sci fi at its best, it's different, it's unique and it's fun to read. I still enjoy the whole case file setup and I absolutely adore the pages with pictures/illustrations. This book was so brutal there was so much death and it made me a happy camper :D. Okay so first book I found the text hard to follow, but after reading book one this book was super easy to read, just gotta get used to the different setup. so this book was pretty corny and a few things that happen I felt like I wanted to bang my head on a wall because it was so idiotic and predictable. However I loved the cheesy romantic plot, it turned me into a soft pile of goo. Her eyes shining with the light of it. THE PLOT... the goddamn plot is just so amazing. I won't say anything because I will spoil everyone but I totally am getting CONSPIRACY FEELS like shit better go down in the other novels in this series or I will riot. In this book we follow our MC's Hanna and Nik. Beitech are still upto no good and we follow our protagonists while they try to escape Beitech. At the beginning of this book I felt like I had read it before, it was very samey same. I even felt like Hanna had the same personality as Kady from book one. After Hanna's character developed I started seeing the differences between the two books. The authors added a few new elements THEN BAM MY MIND WAS BLOWN, this book is absolutely incredible and I am so impressed. Probably one of the best YA novels I've ever read! However I had some issues.. Like I said half of the book was the same as the other first novel. I also didn't like the blanked out swear words again, it's so bloody distracting and I didn't find it fun like I did in the first book. Also there was no WOW moment for me like in there was book one.. The whole "am I merciful" was my thing , and it didn't happen In this book.. *bangs face repeatedly into wall because of lack of badassery* Reasons why I like this better then book one: 1. The pacing of this book was amazing, it literally had me on the edge of my seat! 2. The characters from book one who I love soo much were still hanging around :D 3. The story... The end reveal.. Wow!! I just loved it so much 4. The lollipop virus/song thing that played at every important scene, it made me burst out laughing everytime it played it was absolutely hilarious. 5. I loved the whole drug thing with the Dust. Space druggo's haha.. I also loved finding out how they made the drug.. *creepy music playing*. but while we are on the subject of drugs; kids smoking ciggies and doing drugs is not cool. Even if ur fave character does drugs, you shouldn't they are horrible things. “And within the computer's innards, a spreading cancer. A self-replicating corruption. A B-pop mutiny of bass and drum and oscillating frequency. Inane quasi poetry glorifying a pointless act of intimacy.” Okay so book one for me was dark, creepy & moody following Kady's POV. Book two is a little more light hearted and fun. Okay so this is gonna sound weird but I like Kady more then Hanna.. Hanna is a total badass but I like Kady's character/personality more she's my little Rebel. But I would chose Nik over Ezra any day! So I'm going to talk about the new characters; “And now, born from the ashes, she’s a warrior in bloodied black.” [image] Hanna is a pretty, rich, pampered little princess, yes she's a ninja and a total badass, I just hated the fact every guy drooled over her. It was annoying. But I'm glad the authors pulled her character off and made her smart & good looking. “And blood and tears and screams did not matter anymore, because at least they are together.” [image] Nik... Wow ! He was awesome, I really enjoyed Nik's character. He is a convicted criminal and a drug lord *heart eyes* I don't think drugs are cool at all don't get me wrong, it's just the whole bad boy aura that got me. Normally bad boys aren't really bad boys, but Nik is actually a badass & a tattooed good looking badass at that. He surprised me with how soft he can be without losing that 'bad boy' title. I thought Ezra was a pussy and Nik was the opposite. poor baby, he had such a rough past, but I can relate to him, his past & childhood was very similar to mine. Like clearly we are both gangsters. He is a gangster, a hood rat and that ciggie always behind his ear made my heart race. He is the epitome of sexy. Okay so my favorite character is still AIDEN.. How can you not like AIDEN !? he is crazy but so smart and protective and AWESOME.. oh & forgot to mention he is insanely dangerous computer who murders people for fun. But still he is a saviour aswell, so I guess we can forgive him for being a murderous bastard. A new favorite character coming in close behind AIDEN is the guy that does the reports on the video surveillance.. Haha I no right ? My fave characters are a computer and a nameless guy that writes reports haha. But he is HILARIOUS and I enjoyed his part of the book the most, okay chums. One YEAR UNTIL BOOK THREE... I can't wait that long, I need to no more and I WANT IT NOW.. Gimme gimme gimme *insert grabby hands* < error >...more |
