4/5 'Gun fights weren’t about who shot first, they were about who got shot first.' Buddy read with Justin Biebers biggest fan Drew As you all 4/5 'Gun fights weren’t about who shot first, they were about who got shot first.' Buddy read with Justin Biebers biggest fan Drew As you all know Michael R. Fletcher is my new obsession, I love the way he writes so much. I love all his fucked up, gritty, unique, badass stories. He is definitely one of my favourite authors and this book cemented that fact even more. Going into this novel I was abit apprehensive mainly because most fantasy writers who try their hand at writing Sci-fi fail miserably imo, but I'm happy to announce that Fletcher nailed it. This is actually my first ever Cyberpunk book and it blew me away. I didn't really know what to expect from a Cyberpunk book. I normally stay far away from 'futuristic' novels I just find them so unrealistic & super geekish (not hating on anyone who loves this shit). I just don't understand the terminology used because I'm a simpleton. However I feel Ghosts of Tomorrow was extremely realistic, fun, believable and easy to follow. When I imagine the future, I actually imagine computers, robots and a virtual reality. This is exactly what this book is about. It's not ridiculous with hover cars and laser beams, but instead scarily real. Will our future consist of a Virtual Reality? When our children's, children's, children's, children die will their brains be scanned to a USB stick and they will exist in a virtual reality fucking the world up from the inside of a computer making them basically immortal? I'm not sure, but I'm pretty fucking sure that this is probably the most fucked up thing I could think of. Why? Because it seems so real. Being unable to die and live as a sentient scares the shit out of me. I do not want to be a computer or have my head removed from my body and scanned to a goddamn hard drive. But I wouldn't mind being a robot and blowing shit up... But in all seriousness everyone should have this book on their gigantic TBR pile, it's not just about the interweb and robots, it's also about mafia gangsters who steal children and turn them into killing machines and it's an extremely chilling story. "Meat brains were the past. They age and rot and die, doomed from the day they’re born. Sickness, disease, cancer. Those were yesterday’s problems. Tomorrow was a whole new reality, one without filth and famine and poverty. Virtuality is the new reality." The Children are the future. The story is a multiple POV that follows a whole bunch of people set on earth in the future when virtuality is the new reality, there's an autistic girl named 88 who has her brain scanned into a hard drive, the South America mobsters are using her to run their businesses. They thought she was a moron, a mental cripple. A victim. But 88 has been underestimated and wants freedom she has come to see humanity as a threat and she can only have her freedom by finding a boy name Archaeidae another child who was scanned but instead he is six limbed Chassis and a killing machine. (That badass ninja dude on the cover with the samurai swords, yeah that one). Griffin a junior investigator is put on a special case find all the mobsters illegal crèches a place where they raise children so they can scan their brains, but Griffin is in a dilemma he falls in love with his partner and must protect her aswell as himself while fighting a war full of chassis, gangsters and lunatic scanned brains. Abdul a depressed 17 year old boy who is now a chassis after being killed in a secession war in Old Montreal who is assigned as Griffins Heavy Weapons support, who doesn't know a thing about killing and hates himself. Who will come out on top the good guys or the bad guys? Well you should go read it and find out. “Hindsight is merciless,” said Abdul. “And self-pity a useless indulgence.” This novel is actually Fletchers debut, I thought Beyond Redemption was his first book but I was wrong, this story is 88 but revamped and renamed as Ghosts of Tomorrow. I just don't understand how Fletcher is still so underrated when he creates such beautiful vivid worlds full of badassery. He is an author that will make you think and his writing is so deep. He needs to be on everyone's favourite author list, stop reading mindless crap people and come read some of Fletchers work, you'll definitely thank yourself for reading his shite. His characterisation is fantastic, you have characters like 88 and Archaeidae who are unhinged, emotionally damaged killers, who you will either love or hate. I personally loved both and found my murderous darlings to be quite precious. But then you'll easily love his good guys especially Abdul, who is always trying his best to be a better person.. or should I say the best killing machine chassis he can be. I also loved Nadia, I found her to be an extremely relatable character “Scars are sexy. War wounds are sexier. Missing limbs...” She fanned herself like some dame from one of those old black and white movies. I thought I was the only fictional character who loves disfigured men. Turns out Nadia is my twin. Your probably wondering why I didn't give this novel five stars? Well I had a few issues, firstly I'm not that into Sci-Fi. I find it interesting however like I said earlier, I find the terminology hard to follow, yes this book is an easier read then some, but the first 22% is extremely slow and very confusing, it took me 30 pages to realise that 88 was a scanned brain. I also had to google a shit ton of words. So you must be patient, at 23% in I promise you won't be able to put the novel down because there is so much badassery happening, like there's explosions, gun fights, people losing limbs and murderous computers. What else could you ask for? Nothing. I personally thought this novel wasn't going to live up to the expectations I have for Fletchers novels, I was waiting a long time for action and unexpected things to happen. Yes they did eventually happen, but my god that start was freaking slow.
This novel is freakily good and will have you thinking about it for a long time. So all in all this is a great read that I really enjoyed, it's EXTREMELY interesting. And complex. I actually never thought I'd say that about a Cyberpunk book. Definitely recommended to everyone who loves gritty Sci-fi, books about the future and everyone who is a mega fan of Fletchers Manifest Delusions series. Also if you liked the film Edge of Tomorrow, you'll enjoy this. Ps."Is there anything sexier than nerd chicks?" Why don't guys in real life think like this? If they did I wouldn't be single.. Actually I probably would be, but it's nice to dream. You can find this review and my other reviews at Booksprens. ...more |

We know there is something wrong with us. We are at war with ourselves, and it’s a war we are doomed to lose." Buddy read with my fellow delusionalist Jody This book needs to be accompanied by some crazy epic death metal & head banging. I used to be a metal head, but in my old age I find it pretty hectic, however if you read this novel whilst listening to death metal (the real growly shit), I guarantee your experience will be enhanced. Mine was anyway. [image] Actual footage of me rocking out lol jokes If I did this I swear I'd pull the muscles in my neck & have to wear a neck brace, I'm too old for this shite. Anyway, sorry about the rambling my mind is in out of space lately, so expect a ton of word vomit & fangirling, come to think of it.. I think I'm Fletcher's first squealing mess of a fan, I crumble like a teenage girl at a one direction concert over his shite. Seriously folks what a goddam rutting mess. Once again I am left wondering why I'm so goddamn morbid?! How can I love something so gritty, warped & twisted? Actually I lied, I don't love this novel. I actually adore it. If I could cuddle the novel for being so incredibly fucked up I would, but I won't because that would be awkward. I love the grit, I love the darkness & most of all I loved all the violence. I am now labeling Fletcher the king of grimdark. He definitely knows how to bring the grim to the dark. Like my body wasn't prepared for the feels and grimness that this book delivered. IT CRUSHED MY SOUL. I RUTTING CRIED. Seriously I never thought I'd cry over characters I hated with a passion or even feel any remorse for them. But I did. Michael is an extremely talented author, he made us hate the characters in book one & in book two we felt empathy for them. FEELING EMPATHY FOR VILLAINS IS SACRILEGIOUS, ITS NOT RIGHT... Thanks for sucker punching me in the jaw. “Sometimes you don’t talk like the kind of man who slams another man’s head against the floor until his skull breaks.” Basically this book is about all the good shit normal authors don't explore madness, death, chaos & violence. Bedeckt has a list of crimes he won't commit, however he has already broken those rules and caused more damage then he ever thought he would. The Geborene God seeks to remake the world. He wants it perfect and clean. However he is having trouble in a world full of the insane. Bedeckt wants to put an end to the madness he has created. But he is being followed by his two best friends who he abandoned, Wichtig the greatest swordsman in the world & Stelhan a kleptomaniac (this chick is crazy, like beyond redemption, she would cut your throat in your sleep for fun). Who will reach the God first? Or will Bedeckt die before he gets a chance to redeem himself? What happens when the only sane person in the whole world is the craziest of them all? The dead shall rise & with them they will create a war that will tear the very fabric of existence. Sanity wasn’t real. It was a myth, a delusion. In a mad world, in a reality governed by faith and belief and delusion, what was sanity? It’s madness. Fletcher has once again surpassed all my expectations, this book was incredible. And I'm not just saying that lightly, people were telling me "it's so much darker then Beyond Redemption" of course I didn't believe them because let be honest that book was just a black void of darkness.. however it's true. This book is so much darker then BR. This novel just like its predesscor was a slow burn, the first 25% could be considered boring, however the concept is interesting enough to keep you engaged, at around the 30% mark you won't be able to put the novel down as it gets really intense & keeps that pace until the last page. AND THAT ENDING WAS THE BEST ENDING IVE EVER READ, seriously it was fucking crazy. But the main thing that drew me in was Fletcher's ability to make the vile characters so much more deep and likeable... Maybe even a tad loveable? they have regrets, they want redemption, some of them even want to be better people, so the character development is extremely well done and quite frankly some of the best I've read in a long time. But they are all still insane villains and as the saying goes It’s a shite world. Shite things happen. Fletcher has a way with words, his writing is flawless and it's actually full of words of wisdom. I saved so many quotes from this gem because I just adored nearly every sentence. If I were to compare his prose to another author i would say it's very similar to Abercrombie's writing style, however for me I think Fletcher is just that little bit better, like a tiny smidgen and that's just because of his creativity, he has created a terrible spit and phlegm filled world with terrible characters where everyone is ugly, so for me this is one of the most unique and imaginative stories I've read in a long time and contains one of the most different plot-lines I've had the pleasure to read. Another thing Fletcher does well is he has you on the edge of your seat while your reading. It's a very unpredictable read, anything could happen at anytime and he definitely doesn't give a shit about killing his main characters so expect the unexpected. I also love the fact the story is told in multi person POV, there's a lot of story lines going on but they are all wrapped up neatly with a big blood, vomit & phlegm stained bow at the end. It's definitely another one of those thought provoking novels that has you questioning your own sanity and wondering if the person in the mirror is actually a part of your delusions and secretly wants to choke the life from your body for fun, remember if the person in the mirror starts talking to you “The mirror ever lies,” , so you can't trust them.. The Mirrors Truth also brings some refreshing themes to the typically tropes your used to in fantasy novels, with some mind blowing differentness included in the mix, so if your sick of boring books, you should definitely check out Fletcher's work. My prior complaints I had with book one were definitely sorted out, the word shite is used less and the German names are becoming easier to handle, plus don't forget to use this saviour as a reference if you decide to pick up his work, it's an absolute must; Beyond Redemption Wiki "I love that moment when you see it in their eyes, the dawning understanding that you have absolutely and utterly rutted their lives. It is the most delicious meal you will ever taste. And the more complete the betrayal, the better the flavour." I feel like everyone on earth whines for diversity in books, this authors work is so diverse it's ridiculous. It features every type of crazy, every skin colour, it also explores lesbian relationships. But in saying that, if your someone who likes those things but are overly sensitive to violence and triggers eg rape, murder, torture. Don't touch these books, seriously, They are incredibly twisted, gritty & disturbing. If I see someone read and trash these books I may have to stab them with a blunt object & I'm not even joking. I will feel personally wounded by your hate. I love these books like a child. [image] "Who could love this? No one. No one could love such a vile person." [image] “Our scars are reminders of the mistakes we’ve made,” [image] "Sometimes the most unpredictable people were the most predictable." all fanart by Quint VonCanon Another Warning just in case you didn't read the last one.. you should not read these novels if your overly sensitive, they contain child abuse, rape, disturbing themes, animal abuse and quite possibly the most cringiest torture scenes ever, seriously one had me cowering in the corner and I honestly felt truly ill while reading it. Also there's some weird rutting shite going on. "Erdbehüter watched as he eyed a scab, licking his lips. She watched hunger and disgust do war. Hunger won. He ate the scab" so if your a Squeamish petal, stay away. "Poets and story tellers always went on about how terrible that first kill was, how it haunted people. Bedeckt laughed every time he heard that. Such utter shite. Murder was nothing." Recommended to all fans of grimdark and anyone with a harden heart whose looking for something different. Fletchers stories are a hidden gem that should be on every hardcore fantasy fans favourite list. Ps. Just realised I wrote a novel on a novel.. Pss. Michael sorry to be an annoying pig rutter but can you seriously hurry up and write book three? Please & thank you. 4.5/5 This ARC was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Release date is 22nd of August 2017. “Am I a monster?”4.5/5 This ARC was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Release date is 22nd of August 2017. “Am I a monster?” This book was so totally & utterly disturbing and I'm in awe of Michael R. Fletcher's writing prowess. But loving this book totally made me think to myself "since when did I become such a warped morbid piece of shit?". I feel like only warped minded people could love a novel like this. It's basically a book about cannibalism, madness, revenge, hate & love. YEAH YOU READ CORRECTLY... LOVE. This is quite possibly the most fucked up 'love story' I've ever read in my entire life but I totally dig it & it's my new favorite ever romance. I actually found it so adorable "I’ll never leave you. I’ve lost everything except you and now I have more than I’ve ever had in all my life.” (it's actually not adorable and a normal person would find it twisted and deranged) however I'm not normal and I am quite deranged so this love story was clearly made for me. This book was an easy read for me, because I have read Beyond Redemption so I understood the terminology used for the types of powers contained in the novel, I also stumbled upon this; Beyond Redemption Wiki which helped a lot with understanding what all the German words meant. It's a stand alone novel but it is still set in the same world of Manifest Delusions, so you can read this novel without reading the authors other works. There was a few mentions of the characters from Beyond Redemption which I loved, but there was no major spoilers for the other series. In a world where Sanity is a delusion, reality a myth. We follow our main protagonist Zerfall who has woken up in an alley with her head smashed in and no recollection of her past all she knows is that she is in danger and must get as far away from the Tauschung as possible, the Tauschung is a mad religion with its own private hell called swarm. Upon escaping the city she makes her way into the desert where she runs into a naive boy named Jateko who has accidentally killed a warrior from his tribe. Jateko has an unhealthy obsession with eating people because he believes that he will take their powers from consuming their brains. I had one minor con and that was it took a while to get exciting and I also read a PDF version which was quite painful as I'm blind as a bat and couldn't zoom in on the words, but that couldn't be helped and I'm so grateful the author offered me the ARC. I loved the humor so much, "The priestess grunted and strained and farted and Jateko wondered what kind of horrendous diet led to such effort for a simple crap. If all the people of the civilized city-states shat like these priests, the cities would be even fouler than he thought. It's a much lighter read then Beyond Redemption & it has made me so much more excited for The Mirrors Truth. This author is definitely a favourite and I cannot wait to read all of his fucked up shite. Definitely a fantastic novel that all grimdark fans should read. Another highly rated book which has wormed its way straight onto my favourites shelf. This novel definitely isn't for everyone, some scenes were quite confronting and it did contain child abuse, so if your a soft teddy bear, you should stay far away from this authors work You can find this review and my other reviews at Booksprens. ...more |

Really what I should do in this review is coherently rev **spoiler alert** 1003/5 Put me in the bin because I am utter trash for the Powder Mage Series. Really what I should do in this review is coherently review the novel, but let's be real now, what even are 'proper informative reviews' when you are suffering from a fangirl heart attack (a very serious condition FYI). I'm ready to crumble into a screaming mess over this shit. So much happened in this book and I just can't deal. I am so grateful for this series existence, like I woke up this morning and thanked the lord that Brian McClellan started writing. I have enjoyed every book in the series and I'm shattered that it has come to an end. “After the adrenaline had worn off and medals had been awarded and the glory meted out, only the suffering remained after a battle." This book is the last instalment of the Powder Mage trilogy and with it comes an epic journey of badassery & sexy grandpa kicking arse. I am very satisfied with the way this series ended and I'm glad it left room for some of the characters to progress more in the next series. I did however have a few minor issues with this conclusion. I feel like there is two characters who developed extremely well in this series however I can't help but feel these characters had super powers that were not explained so therefor they are both Gary Stu's imo. Why can one person do magic without gloves? Huh? Yeah you can't answer because there was literally no reasonable explanation. Also why did another character turn into superman but it wasn't explained where or why they recieved those powers? I felt like all the loose ends in this book were not tied neatly at the end, the magic system is still pretty random and has no major repercussions. I also feel that the ending was rushed, I don't like the way the author dealt with all the on going issues that surrounded our characters and the plot. There was no big boss fight & I hate that shit. This is the only thing that affected my reading experience. Apart from those two minor issues i enjoyed reading this series, definitely my favourite series of 2017 so far & I'm looking forward to completing the short stories and starting the new series Sins of the Empire. My favourite thing about this series (apart from Taniel of course) is the character development. in book one I hated Adamant & Nila with a passion. By the end of the series I found myself rooting for both characters & crying shamelessly if anything bad happened to either character. Another thing I loved was the plot pacing, it's so fast paced and full of action, magical explosions with limbs flying left right and Centre. I was not bored once in any of the books, but I must admit book three is my least favourite. Can someone please order a Black Warden to come and break my body in half. I can't go on living now that I've finished this series. After I'm dead please bury these books with the remains of what was left of my body. Seriously this book hit me like a semi truck full of feels that was going 180km in a 40km school zone. For real though, this book smashed my face in and now I'm dead. (finito). But death wasn't the worst thing to happen, this book has actually put me in a 35 year reading slump. See y'all in 2052. Recommended to everyone who loves fantasy & sexy grandpas. I also think think this would be a great starting point for anyone wanting to get into flintlock fantasy. Buddy read with Choko & Twilia. (Who I will tag later. when I edit this review.) Actual rating for this book; 4.5/5 P.s. Ive snorted lots of gunpowder and I'm now in a powder trance to numb the pain of that ending. S.O.S. "To mayhem and fighting". I'm really struggling to write this review, due to the complexity of the plot and of course how SPOILERISH my draft review was, so I'm just going to just write a short spoiler free review. Okay so despite feeling 'meh' about book one of this series, I went into this book with high expectations and I must say this is definitely better then the first. I felt this book had a lot more pro's then con's, and I'm FINALLY starting to see why everyone adores this series. Once again the book started extremely slow, I thought it was going to be another disappointment, however around 300 pages in shit got exciting and when I say exciting, I really mean it. This book did not slow down until the end, it's brutal, it's terrifying & just downright cool. I'm starting to very slowly become addicted to this series, this author knows how to bring the grim to the dark. I LOVE IT. Holy shit! some scenes had me CRINGING. For all you salty sea dogs that have read this book I will tell you that, THAT SCENE (you know the one I'm talking about) made me love this book, it was fucking amazing, terrible, brutal & savage as fuck, but so good. I'm fangirling over the savagery displayed in this novel. But it wasn't all rainbows & buttercups. I still find the writing kinda choppy and the world building definitely improved and is no longer a hinderance BUT I just can't look past how much I hated the start of this novel and I don't know why I didn't like it, I guess it just felt very similar to book one and the first 30% was boring. I couldn't stand Falcio at the start. So the ending definitely saved the book for me. Still not a favourite but a pretty cool book and I'm really excited to continue with the series. “He’d told me the world could be the most lovely place you could imagine, so long as your imagination was fueled by love.” The story follows Falcio Val Mond, first cantor of the Kings Greatcoats. After the murder of a duke and his whole family, Falcio is determined to find the culprits and bring them to justice, but Falcio is dying from a rare poison. He must not only save himself but he must also save the country. The plot was exciting, thrilling, captivating & fast paced. Definitely a fantastic sequel to an okay predecessor. Although I still don't love this series, I'm definitely enjoying it a lot more. My favourite thing is still Castell's flawless writing style. The magic system is better explained in this book but we didn't find out everything so it is still mysterious. I also really like that the Greatcoats didn't spilt up this book and love their bromance so much, did I mentioned that I laughed until I got a pain in my ribs during this book? No I didn't, but I am now. So make sure you have a change of underwear handy while reading this book because I guarantee you'll piss yourself. ALSO IM SO HAPPY KEST & BRASTI FINALLY GOT SOME PAGE TIME, but the real show stealers for me were the ladies Darriana and Valiana. Valiana is the most well developed character of the whole series & I love her. I also have a soft spot for Brasti, such a big soft dumb oaf that needs to join my harem 😉. "The problem with Brasti is that he's an idiot. He's handsome and charming, he can outshoot any man or woman with a bow, and he's an idiot." Recommended to all fantasy lovers, this series is definitely for ADULTS and only adults it contains ALOT of rape, violence, torture, swearing & badassery. You can find this review and my other reviews at Booksprens. P.s. I kinda wanna be a Greatcoat when I grow up. ...more |

1001/5 [image] THIS.WAS.INCREDIBLE I'm convinced this series was written for me. I'm also DOOMED to shamelessly love it. I feel like I'm in a powder tran 1001/5 [image] THIS.WAS.INCREDIBLE I'm convinced this series was written for me. I'm also DOOMED to shamelessly love it. I feel like I'm in a powder trance after this book, HOLY SHIT. I once again dropped all other priorities to read this and ended up devouring it in two days. Definitely my favourite read of 2017. "Every night he's looking for the eye behind the flintlock." So I thought book one was incredible, somehow this book was better. I just need to scream *screams* *screams some more* *loses voice*. The amount of fangirl feels I have right now is ridiculous. The plot this time revolves around Tamas invading Kez and failing miserably, Taniel is too busy smoking dope in a mala den to give a shit & Adamant won't stop at nothing to rescue his family from an insane power hungry man. “There is nothing that will make a man more desperate and more capable of violence than endangering his family.” It is as good as it sounds. IT WAS SO AMAZING! I loved every second spent reading this book. There was so much death and I love DEATH. There was also badassery, amazing character development, magical explosions & lots of battles. The action did not stop once, seriously, I'd go to put the book down and decide to read one more page, next minute I've read 100 because I had to know what was happening, it was so fast paced like I couldn't keep up. I love Flintlock fantasy so much and it's definitely one of my favourite sub genres of fantasy and am officially addicted to all things to do with guns & magic. [image] can we all just stare in awe over the sexiest grandpa alive. 😍 I literally loved all POV's. I even enjoyed Adamants & love Nila so bloody much now. My favourites are still Taniel & Ka-Poel, Tamas (sexiest grandpa alive *dies from swooning*) and Bo. But I love all side characters too, except the baddies, they suck. Also there was some bitches in this book who picked on my baby Taniel, I WILL STAB THEM IN THE EYE WITH A RUSTY SPOON. I only have one wish and its to get my ship in the last book. I HOPE IT HAPPENS. “You missed the morning’s festivities,” Bo said to Adamat. “You call torturing a man ‘festivities’?” Adamat asked. “I’m not a good person,” Bo said.” Recommended to all fantasy lovers and everyone who appreciates sexy 60+ year old main characters. *Sorry but I can't write a more coherent review right now, I'm all out of black powder* P.s I'm ironically now a Powder Mage from snorting gun powder.*nose bleed* P.s.s. I NEED TO EAT HEAPS OF BECAUSE MIHALI CAST A FOOD SPELL ON ME. (Jokes, I'm just a pig & kinda wish I had the excuse I was under a magical food spell) “Let the Kez come,” Tamas roared. “Let them send their greatest generals after us. Let them stack the odds against us. Let them come upon us with all their fury, because these hounds at our heels will soon know we are lions!” Review for Promise of blood Rating so far; Promise of Blood - 1000/5 The Crimson Campaign - 1001/5 Actual rating so far - 10/10 ...more |

My prayers have been answered and I have been given the most relatable character ever.. A 12 year old girl?! So I guess what they say about my maturity levels are true, but anyway.... It was also about food and I love food and think about it 24/7, I had approximately 15 snacks while reading this due to the delicious wine hamper picture at the start of every chapter. *turns on awesomeness* More detailed RTC Recommended to all fans of Sanderson. You do need to read his other books before this one, Stormlight Archive 1-2. Read in Arcanum Unbounded: The Cosmere Collection anthology. ...more |

Release date in Australia is 6th of April 2017 I went into Red Sister with apprehension, because I didn't love this authors other series Broken Empire. So automatically knowing this was a YA I thought I'd hate it. However I got it completely wrong, I actually really enjoyed reading this book and it was actually a fantastic coming of age, YA book. I honestly thought Mark would have struggled transitioning from grimdark and adult fantasy to a YA novel, however the transition was smooth and it was the best book I've read by him yet. However it had a few issues, that's why it isn't getting five stars from me, but I honestly think the rest of the series will be awesome and more then likely a favourite for myself. "Truth is a weapon and lies are a necessary shield.” The book is about an orphaned girl named Nona who has been accused for a crime and is to be hung, however she is brought by the sisters of the Sweet Mercy nunnery, where their girls are taught the way of the blade and fist. After ten years of training they become badass nun assassins. Seriously this book is as good as it sounds. Reasons why I loved this book; • Nona is a total badass and I really enjoyed her POV. Nona is aged 9-12 through majority of the book but is extremely mature. • The background characters were amazing. • The world building was beautiful and VIVID. • All storylines were interconnecting. So it was very interesting. • The FRIENDSHIPS were so realistic and wonderful, like I wish the girls were my best friends in real life. • It was so BADASS! It had nuns who were basically ninjas and kicked butt, there was lesbian relationships and a whole lot of gore and delicious death. • All characters were girls. Even tho it lacked the sass you'd expect from a female driven cast, it still was well written. Especially because a man wrote it. It touched on issues like periods and cramps and like I said before it explores bi-sexual and lesbian relationships within the nunnery. (please note: these relationships will likely be broadened in future books). • The storyline is awesome and extremely well thought, obviously Mark Lawrence spent a lot of time planning this novel and it definitely paid off. • It was BRUTAL and extremely STABBY, just the way I like it. [image] I found this image on google while searching for Nona fanart, funnily enough this is exactly how I picture my badass cinnamon roll. Like I said before it wasn't all good.. In Fact I found a few issues, I didn't like the fact that majority of this book was spent in training. I get that the characters needed that training to develop, however it was kinda boring and I could have done without half the shit that I read, but that's just me and some people would have loved it because it was realistic and definitely had the usual things that come with training in a school eg bullying, making friends, learning skills etc. But I just find all that stuff boring. I live for the action and gore. I also didn't like the start, I've always found Marks writing hard to digest. Don't get me wrong his a wonderful world builder, there's just something that doesn't agree with me and it's his use of words and the way he describes things, it definitely needs to be read slowly and you must get used to that style of writing as it is very unique. After a few chapters I stopped noticing the writing and it was no longer a hinderance for me, it actually became quite beautiful. I also found this book to be abit of a slow burn some parts would be exciting then it would get boring then exciting again, which I don't enjoy I like consistent badassery. But those are my only three real issues with the book and are all very minor. I think most readers of YA and adult fantasy would enjoy this novel. “Every star, turning in the black depth of heaven, burns for no better reason than that humanity raised its face to look. Every great deed needs to be witnessed. Go out there and do something great.” Recommended to fantasy and to YA readers 15+ who are looking for a coming of age novel with a twist, it's very gorey and quite brutal, it had animal torture and castration. So don't rush out and buy it for your 12 year old daughter. Buddy read with my sisters at the Sweet Mercy Nunnery; Petrik who is actually not a sister but a brother, TS , Haifa & Twinnie ...more |

4/5★★★★ Buddy Read with team Howlers; Speedy eye Oppa, Whorefart Aga, Dewi, Minxy & Voldemort “The Reaper has come. And he’s brought hell with him.” A 4/5★★★★ Buddy Read with team Howlers; Speedy eye Oppa, Whorefart Aga, Dewi, Minxy & Voldemort “The Reaper has come. And he’s brought hell with him.” After thinking on this book for a night I realize I have a lot to say about it, good and bad. Read at your own risk because I'm about to bring the rant, minor spoilers may be included in this review. So I thought Morning Star was a great conclusion to a fantastic series the Epilogue was gorgeous but very short. Let me start with saying I'm going to have an unpopular opinion this time, after completing Morning Star I am a little unsatisfied, I am left feeling like I need more and I'm kinda disappointed. [image] I personally felt like novel was too full of things that didn't matter, then the last part of the plot and the ending was great but so rushed. I feel like if Pierce Brown just published the last quarter only obviously less rushed, it would have been a more satisfying read for me. Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed reading this novel, I just can't help but feel like this whole book was fillers, and most of the story was unnecessary to the plot. Like this whole book was just basically talking blah blah blah.. [image] The plot was interesting and engaging enough sure, but there wasn't enough action this time around. So like I said if this book had have been the last quarter it would be on my favorite ever shelf next to Golden Son. This is probably even my least liked of the three, definitely the weakest (sorry). But I'm not hating,I did like this book, it just had a few issues that really stood out to me, especially after reading Edge of Bubbles mini review on this book. Also for a whole entire series i kinda found alot of themes samey same as others, like the competition unoriginal, seriously Mars didn't even feel like Mars in book one it was so earthy, Space war also unoriginal. Really there was nothing new in this series, however this series does those 'stereotypical themes' justice, it is interesting, brutal, gorey, full of foul language and foulery (made up word) aka sack fungus. But still something new would be great. Pierce Brown has a funny sense of humor and it shows through his novels, he even managed to add a part into Morning Star that was a quote from one of my favorite movies Friday. The infamous "bye Felicia" & he pulled it off, what a funny human being. :') [image] “My name is Felicia au…” I feint a whip at her face. She brings her blade up, and Victra goes diagonal and impales her at the belly button. I finish her off with a neat decapitation. “Bye, Felicia.” Victra spits, turning to the last Praetorian.” I'm glad there is so many great things happening in the background to help relieve the brutally & mind fuckery of the plot, I feel like if there wasn't a certain character (Sevro) I would have given this book three stars. Hang on a second this is meant to be the 'good' section and I'm still ranting! Okay let me try again. I loved watching the characters grow up together and grow as friends, it touched my black withered little heart. I also enjoyed the advanced technology in the story, pulse weapons, Moon Beams, Space Ships with AI. Pierce Brown also plays tricks on his reader by making them believe things that aren't true, I nearly hyperventilated a hundred times, like shit it was intense to read he also knows how to mind fuck you superbly, and make u cry like a baby. Im definitely a fan for life. It also opened my eyes and proved not all Space operas & Dystopian books are not all terrible and im looking forward to looking into both genres more. Reading the whole series in first person POV was shit. I did feel frustrated at times with the first person POV however thats just me, I'm used/like reading multiple third person POV. So it did get overwhelming at times. Also this totally is not a YA, please do not assume that it is and buy it for your 12 year old kid, if you do they will be running around talking about sack fungus & smelly balls while trying to chop each other to pieces with your garden tools. I loved the pace of all three books. Book two being my favorite of them all due to the brutalness and having an amazing ending. The plot is unpredictable & full of twist. Some of the twists I did guess in advance. Cried at happy moments and sad moments, Pierce Brown definitely tells an emotional story. The writing is sensational. Overall a satisfactory series. It's great, it got my tick of approval and is now currently being worshipped by my fan girl self.I loved the twists towards the end of Morning Star, pretty impressed but not wowed, definitely looking forward to a Movie aswell as another series being released this year, apparently the new books are set ten years after the conclusion of Morning Star, so hopefully some questions I have will be answered in the new series. So this book continues from the massive cliffhanger in Golden Son, these are not spoilers and actually mentioned on the blurb. Darrow is captured and tortured by the enemy, because it's Darrow and he is like a cockroach (ha) he escapes and continues planning his rebellion against the golds. Some old friends join him and others go against him, so it was interesting to see Darrow in the predicament of having to kill old friends to reach his ultimate goal. He also loses some of his greatest friends *sobs uncontrollably*. I thought this book had some fantastic & rememberable moments. I am sad to say goodbye to the characters I have grown so fond of. Can't wait for the new series. The character development was awesome throughout the series, we watched kids turn into adults. However I had an issue with Darrow the never dying cockroach. Is it just me or was Darrow a tad over the top arrogant, like I feel like I liked his character a lot less in this book. I also hated the fact that the whole book was Darrow making decisions etc like can someone else take charge for awhile? Like I get that his the captain, but his always wrong. I actually wish that something actually went according to plan in this book for a change. Also thinking about Darrow I have another issue, seriously like why does he let all bad guys get away with everything, friends who have in the past tried to kill him he happily welcomes back in his life with open arms. Like this quote made me think he turn back badass. I am not alone. I am not his victim. So let him do his worst. I am the Reaper. I know how to suffer. I know the darkness.” However he didn't. It was sad to see friends betray him but he is just dumb and naive. I did not like him having a conscious and mourning old friends aswell as friends turned traitor. It made me sad, so I hate him for it haha. Sevro's personality in this book was my favorite of all three. Sevro went from a funny smart ass teen to a beautiful smart ass Adult. He was my favorite character and stayed consistent for me through all three books. I absolutely adored him and Adult Sevro (in book three) was my favorite. I love HIM. He has been welcomed into my ever growing harem of book boyfriends. Oh and I finally got my ship yay and predicted it from the beginning :). *howls at the moon* Mustang is a wonderful character, I definitely had my ups and downs with her. But it's safe to say I absolutely adore her. I liked reading her development through this series, she is one character that grew the most on me. After book two I felt betrayed but it's okay now. I also throughly enjoyed Victra she was another character who stood out, what a badass. Ragnar was another perfect faultless character and another of my favorites from the series. Hyrg la, Ragnar A few of the friendships absolutely gave my heart a hard time, one being the bromance between Sevro and Darrow, towards the end of book three I realized I didn't actually like Darrow that much but instead was in love with his friendship with Sevro, all you folks out there know Sevro captured my heart in book one. I love them so much as friends, I love watching them grow together. One point in this book had me crying after they cried to each other. My number one ship forever is Sevorrow. “You tell anyone I cried, I’ll find a dead fish, put it in a sock, hide it in your room, and let it putrefy.” The friendship between Sevro, Ragnar and Darrow. Okay so this three way bromance was my favorite thing in the book (apart from Sevro) seriously the banter was good and they had fun together killing people. Seriously I love these three as friends. Especially Ragnar & Sevro *heart eyes* "You! Troll!" Sevro shouts. "I'm a terrorist warlord! Stop throwing me. You made me drop my candy!" Sevro looks at the floor of the hallway. "Wait. Where is it? Dammit, Ragnar. Where is my peanut bar? You know how many people I had to kill to get that? Six! Six!" Sorry but not sorry, one more thing that didn't sit well for me was the big build up for Darrow wanting revenge, I feel like he didn't do himself justice, so the whole revenge thing kinda didn't happen.. How bloody dare Pierce Brown promise me revenge and blood without delivering it. [image] Also the ending how they handled the worst villain ever was extremely disappointing, (view spoiler)[ losing his tongue and dying by the noose wasn't enough in my opinion for the Jackal, he was an evil dog and made so many people suffer but Darrow once again let him off, he should have been a caged animal for everyone to torture and shit on until he ate himself to death. (hide spoiler)] rant over. I recommended this to everyone over 16, even if you don't like Sci-fi or fantasy this book is definitely a winner. I also feel like this book would be a great introduction to Sci-Fi. Please don't mind the fact that it is YA (once again I need to mention this shit) or in the kids section of your library, this is not a kids story. If my child read this book I would be so concerned it is full of violence, swearing, rape, cannibalism & slavery. Hence the over 16. If everyone's awesome reviews on this book aren't enough to convince you to read it, believe me when I say I'm even trying to get my husband to read it, because I know he will love it. Trust me on this he is a total book hater, I can't even get him to read a book if I read it out loud. (Lol maybe this is the reason why his a book hater?? I have an annoying high pitched voice). So go do yourself a favor and read it, it's bloodydamn good. Whole Series rating: (totally stole this idea from Petrik) 13.5/15 ...more |

That MOTHERFUCKING ENDING. [image] I AM DEAD BECAUSE MY MIND JUST EXPLODED KA B O O M ! Hear that sound? Relax. it's just the sound of my mind being blown and my brains splattering the walls. [image] Holy balls is right folks. How the hell did the author think of such an awesome ending?! Sweet baby Jesus it's been 24 hours since I finished and I need a whole bottle of wine (to myself). This goddamn book has killed me, I am now currently deceased. Sorry but I have to say it again; THAT ENDING.. I have honestly in my whole 24 years of existence, never been so mind blown before. That cliffhanger left me breathless, strained & stressed, as soon as I put this book down I ran into my lounge room like a possessed mad woman and tore book three off the shelf and started straight away. I thought book one was good, book two was even better! *puts on favourite shelf and starts worshipping for eternity* Warning and an apology in advance for anyone reading this rubbish. I'm actually at a lost for words, so this is just word vomit. I feel like if I vomited out a pile of dog shit it would be coherent & more interesting then this review. “You are but a mortal," Roque whispers in my ear, riding his horse alongside the chariot, as per tradition. "And a whorefart," Servo calls from the other side. "Yes," Roque agrees solemnly. "That too.” Did I read that shit correctly or are my eyes deceiving me... A whorefart?! I'm pissing myself & stealing this brilliant saying. I'm so glad this surpassed my expectations. I thought I hated space opera turns out I secretly love it, all thanks to this book. I enjoyed this book more then book one, all because it felt more spacey. In book one the competition on Mars felt like Earth to me so it was kinda unoriginal. I'm happy I can't say that about this book, it felt like a proper Sci-Fi. I loved the space ships I loved the pulse weapons I actually just loved everything, the world building was fantastic, the character development (especially Darrow) was so realistic and awesome & it was so exciting the action didn't stop once. I'm also happy to say I've grown use to the first person POV now and it isn't bothering me at all now, I find comfort in Darrows POV for some reason, mainly because I know he is a crazy dude and he will fuck the golds up. So I'm happy to safely say this book was more my cup of tea then book one, it had more fighting & action. We also didn't go through 200 pages of information dumpage. *phew wipes sweat from forehead* I couldn't get enough of Darrow in this instalment, it was so refreshing to see him fail & go through hell for the second time. (Yay?) Also my baby, my darling, my Sevro. I swear I'm jealous of other women liking him, I love him that much and he isn't even real. There were some moments in this book i truly adored. Like when him and Darrow confess everything to each other what a wonderful heart warming bromance. Also his entrance towards the beginning *heart eyes* I love HIM. *howls at the moon like a mad bitch* “You're a sinister little shit, aren't you?" Victra asks. Also my new second favourite character of the series is.... drum roll please...... The big badass Ragnar, what a cool dude. He is like a space version of the bloody nine. I wanna see him go batshit & kill everyone. [image] "Like a sheep invited to a banquet in his honor thrown by wolves.” I literally can't fault this book I'm just so happy, thrilled & impressed with the hottie known as Pierce Brown. Awesome book dude and if you ever see me at a convention prepare yourself. *wink* [image] Just take all my money Pierce Brown & give me more badassery and keep quenching my blood thirst. Please & thank you. [image] I do not recommend this book to anyone under the age of 16 no idea why this brutal masterpiece is on the fucking YA shelf. Should be military space opera or just plain old Sci - Fi. Who I do recommend this to is everyone who loves a good blood bath, also I think just everyone on this planet should read this book it's awesome and full of so many unexpected twists. I think you would also enjoy this if your a whorefart like me. 9/10 ...more |

He can kindle fire on even the deepest of nights, and no shade will dare come for his soul. Yes, the white fox. Meanest bastard in these parts for sure. Pray he doesn't set eyes on you, friend. If he does, you're dead" I really feel this book doesn't get enough love. This is definitely one of my favourite Sanderson Novellas, I honestly loved everything about it, the plot was very cool and different from what Sanderson normally does. It was a lot darker and was actually kinda spooky. I found the concept extremely unique and different, my mind was blown to read Khriss's notes on what the Shades are, once again Sanderson does it again, I'm in complete awe of BS, it's getting to the point where I'm fanatical about his stuff and I feel annoyed if someone doesn't like his books. How does he come up with these awesome books? Clearly because his a genius and the greatest author to have ever lived, yeah that's right, I went there. [image] Picture from Tor hardcover edition of Arcanum Unbounded The world building was so cool it is basically about a shard world called Threnody and there is a forest which is like hell (so awesome I know). We follow our Main character Silence, she is a middle aged mother who is also a bounty hunter and she's a total badass. Silence owns a waystop near the forest, she sees a criminal with a bounty in her waystop, so she follows them into the forest. But the forest is hectic because within it lives the Shades. My only compliant is it was far too short! I wanna know more about this world and could have read a whole novel on Silence because I enjoyed her POV so much. [image] I do however love the cover of the published novella. I might just buy it separately for the beautiful cover. Recommended to all fans of Sanderson. You do not need to read his other books before this one, unless you buy Arcanum Unbounded then I suggest reading Mistborn 1-6 first and also Stormlight Archive 1-2. This is one of those books that you don't expect to be so good, like it 5/5
This is one of those books that you don't expect to be so good, like it runs up behind you and coward punches your face in until you love it. I went into this book knowing I would like it because of that blurb, but having finished it I'm just sitting here mind blown, literally like I'm questioning my own sanity right now. This is one of the most thought provoking novels I've ever read in my entire life. The plot is so intricate and complex and I can't believe this is a debut novel. I am so impressed by everything. It's a rarity that I read a novel where I hate every single character in it, but love the book with every inch of my heart. This was a fabulous and well written journey into the darker side of mental illnesses. It was also extremely fast paced, full of unexpected things & had a straight forward different magic system. It of course didn't come without flaws but alas, they were very minor (I'll talk about these later). I've been praying to the Gods of Grimdark for a while now, I just need a proper Grimdark that I don't roll my eyes at or doesn't try to hard to be dark. Well folks this is that book. It's warped, disturbing, disgusting & amazing all at once. I hate every character and they are proper villains (finally). I love books like this where you don't know who the real villain is. Is there even a villain? Or is everyone the villain? I don't know. But i honestly just love the whole concept of everyone being a fucked up evil mess. But despite hating the characters I actually felt terrible if something bad happened to anyone. At one point I was sick to my stomach because it was so intense. So this author is obviously extremely talented to have me hating everyone with a passion then sobbing quietly in the corner if they got hurt, especially Konig (I have no idea why, because I hate that guy his a c@&$). Oh and it made me happy that every single person was so ugly and I'm talking hideous. It helped me hate them more... Except Wichtig his beautiful & easy to hate. "My mirror never shows me what I want to see. I can’t possibly be that fat and ugly!" Basically this is a story about villainary and villains doing villainous things. Everything I've ever wanted in a book. In a world where mental illness is power, the more insane you are the stronger you are at delusions and magic. Violent and dark, the world is filled with the Geisteskranken men and women whose delusions manifest, twisting reality. 'Belief defines reality' . There is a high priest Konig. Who is moulding a god from his own hands, twisting the child's mind everyday until this child is the 'perfect' God. However Konig isn't the only person who wants this god child to Ascend with his influence, in a world full of real walking doppelgänger's, kleptomaniac's, sociopaths, narcissists, schizophrenics, dysmophics, spilt personalities & psychopaths, all with their own intent to capture the gold child. Time is running out for everyone & this could be everyone's last chance of redemption before they pass into the after death. Yes this book is as good as it sounds and without saying spoilers I will say that it is so much more complex then the blurb leads you to believe. Blew my expectations out of the water at full speed. It took me a while to get to this novel because of the disappointing Grimdarks I've read lately, but trolling goodreads I came across two DNF reviews one was "this book was to dark" the second "it villainized mental illness". Which quite honestly made me want to read the book even more, that's when I added it to my priority list and I'm glad I did. It washed me into a void of craziness. Definitely not for everyone, I understand this, it is very gritty, full of badassery, dark, obscene & so fucking brutal, like it's beyond redemption. Which I guess most people don't enjoy. but I honestly love this shite the more crazy the better. I also just want to touch on the 'villainized mental illness' in this book. I totally understand how someone could feel this book demonizes mental illness. However I strongly feel that the author isn't trying to demonize mental illnesses instead he is showing his readers the dark side to a mental illness. Let's be real there are Orc shite crazy people out there who do bad things on a daily basis and that's exactly what this book is about. It's about being inside the head of someone who is so crazy they are actually 'delusional'. This book is one big mind fuck. But a good one. There is very little relief in the novel because even the authors humour is extremely grim, so if your a soft kitten who loves cuddles and rainbows, you definitely should not read this. [image] artwork by Quint VonCanon
Now I wanna talk about some shite that ruffled my feathers, like I said earlier there was a few minor cons. Firstly I need to talk about the over usage of the word shite. It really started to give me the shites. Every single page shite was said atleast five times. Shite Mccrikey. I've had enough. It is also one of those books that you need to concentrate on really hard, because the author has a rich vocabulary and it's also a little confusing because the concept is so different, so in this first 20% my poor simple mind had trouble following, however my delusions grew stronger and I have a doppelgänger that is highly intelligent which helped me understand the plot better. But in reality around 20% in most things are explained so the story becomes more enjoyable and easier to follow. Another thing that I personally didn't like (matter of personal taste here folks) is the German names. I have nothing against the language, it just confused me BUT I did get used to it and it taught me how to pronounce some huge tongue twisters. I'm now a delusional idiot from reading this.. Oh, I think I already was but I'm worse now. [image] artwork by Quint VonCanon “Always best to start with violence and attempt communication second. People reacted more favorably when they knew you would snuff a few lives to get what you wanted... or for no reason whatsoever.” Recommended to all people who are hardcore. Also fans of Abercrombie, Erikson & R. Scott Bakker, will enjoy this novel. Also if you love dark fantasy and appreciate mind blowing differentness this book is for you.

Another buddy read with my besties at BB&B 5 BRIGHT STARS ★★★★★(ง •̀_•́)ง [image] 'DEATH TO OUR ENEMIES, TRUTH AND COURAGE' [image] ‘I’m coming for yAnother buddy read with my besties at BB&B 5 BRIGHT STARS ★★★★★(ง •̀_•́)ง [image] 'DEATH TO OUR ENEMIES, TRUTH AND COURAGE' [image] ‘I’m coming for you, Lykos,’ Maquin bellowed through cupped hands, ‘and neither demons from the Otherworld nor flesh and blood will stop me.’ Seriously how does one right a review for such an incredible book? This book has changed my life and this review will be emotional mess with a lot of word vomit. This book was so brutal I can't even believe I got through it, do not read this book unless you are a blood thirsty little petal like myself, it is hectic and probably the most brutal/badass book I have ever read in my whole entire life. So here we go for a debut series, I am so impressed. John Gwynne is an amazing author & an amazing person. He had everything in this series; awesome characters, awful bad guys, Giants, wyrms, draigs, wolvens, demons, Angels so basically you name it, I bet it was in the story. He definitely has a fan for life and I'm proud to say I'm one of his biggest fans. Yay. But I must say you have killed me and it hurts so much. ‘This day,’ he cried, shouting now, ‘we will live or die, but whatever the outcome, this will still be the day we avenge ourselves for those we’ve lost, the day we right the wrongs done to us, or die in the trying. It will be a dark day, a bloody day, a proud day, for this is the day of our wrath.’ ‘WRATH,’ the cry went up, ringing and echoing through the branches. ‘WRATH.’ [image] One of my most anticipated books for the year and I was not disappointed at all. and it was basically just one big battle. I literally wish I could give this book one thousand stars, seriously what a fantastic ending to an awesome series, I am so impressed by this book I can't even breath when I think about it. I am going to try my hardest to not burst out crying while writing this review, this book was an emotional rollercoaster to say the least and it did kill me. I have never felt so hurt after reading the last book to a series, normally the last book is rainbows and kittens. This book certainly wasn't, everyone I love either died or was badly hurt, there were points were I couldn't even keep reading because my heart was so heavy and I literally had no more tears left to cry. I have never been so emotionally drained after a book in my life. But in saying that it was FUCKING EPIC & I don't have words to tell everyone how much I LOVED IT. That ending omg, I just want to scream and cry tears of joy/sadness. ‘Yes. So don’t go getting carried away and running off to stab people.’ ‘This is a day for stabbing people.’ This book is definitely going on my favorites shelf, I found this book to be the best of all four and probably my second favorite book ever, so YES I LOVED IT THAT MUCH. I had no issues with the writing, I did however find five spelling mistakes but I'm going to totally let them slip because the story was so amazing, I also didn't like the overuse of the word 'Ach' it annoys me but it was still so brutal and badass. Wrath was extremely fast paced and all questions us readers had were answered. The last 30% of this book is seriously probably one of the best endings to a series I have ever read and the greatest thing I've ever read aswell. I'm not going to go into details because the whole review would be spoilers. ‘The enemy of my enemy,’ Corban shrugged, remembering Balur had said those same words to him in Murias. ‘That’s no answer,’ Ildaer rumbled. ‘What do you fight for, if not Elyon?’ ‘For my kin and loved ones. So that we will not be enslaved or murdered. I’ve seen the Kadoshim, seen only a brief glimpse of what they would do, and it is terrible. I fight against that. I fight for my freedom.’ I love all the character development in this book, especially Corban. I honestly can't believe how strong his character has become. All he cares about is his friends and family and I love that. I found Corban less childish in this book and feel like he finally fits the boots of the Bright Star. The warrior’s face filled her mind, beaten and scarred. Proud. Fierce. Maquin & Fidele, I don't want to say to much but I love them so much. They are my favorite book couple ever and Maquin is one of my favorite male characters ever, my old wolf <3 he did a complete 360 in this book and turned into a fucking psycho I loved it so much. I could literally write my whole review just on Maquin. Like seriously how many warriors can kill everything and everyone even with their bare hands.. None except for my old wolf.Ahh Maquin *dreamy sigh then bursting into tears* In half a dozen strokes of his sword four men were dead or bleeding out on the floor. Maquin screamed wordless joy as the battle-rage took him and he strode through them like death itself, parrying, chopping, stabbing. He left one of his swords stuck in an enemy’s spine, drew a knife and fought on . My favorite part of the whole book; *heart eyes* You are precious to me,’ she finished, her courage fading at the last, her eyes dropping away. A silence settled on them. The chattering of the stream, the sounds of Veradis’ warband making ready for their expedition, all faded around her. Maquin moved, suddenly close to her, a handspan between them, and her heart was racing. He leaned closer and kissed her lips, a soft caress. ‘I came back from death for you,’ he said, his voice a whispered tremor. ‘For me it was always forever, however long that may be. And those words you just spoke, they are the greatest gift I’ve ever been given. They are written upon my heart and soul.’ ‘Then let me give you another gift,’ she said, smiling, her heart soaring, grabbing his leather jerkin Thanks for melting my heart and making me cry tears of blood (pun intended) Coralen impressed me throughout the series and it's safe to say she's so badass. Cywen is another character who impressed me from beginning to end. She's so fierce, passionate, caring & badass. She's the whole package. I thought I felt sorry for Nathair ... Turns out I didn't haha. 'Nathair considered his allies. A drunken pirate. A demon-possessed attraction to flies and a half-burned Kadoshim. How have I sunk so low?' Brina was so amazing in this book, she's an incredible character that I will never forget and Craf <33 he was so polite in this book lol. 'Brina, are you sober?’ ‘What?’ ‘You don’t usually appear to like anyone, is all.’ ‘I like Storm,’ Brina said and poked him with a bony finger. ‘Make the most of it,’ she added, ‘I doubt it’ll last.’ There was some EPIC battles in this book, like some of the best I've ever read in my life. Move over George RR Martin you are no longer king of writing battles that title goes to John Gywnne now :) If you guys wanna no more I suggest reading the series because my lips are sealed on this one :D Right now I'm just going to go and ugly cry for eternity. Yep seriously. Bye. [image] ...more |

4.5 BLACK FEATHER STARS ✺✺✺✺✺ Another buddy read with my chums at BB&B 4.5 BLACK FEATHER STARS ✺✺✺✺✺ Another buddy read with my chums at BB&B
[image] Another fantastic book by Jen Williams, well done Jen & thank you for writing the Copper Cat Trilogy, I enjoyed every second spent reading it & can't wait to read it again. I can honestly say that this book is a very special treat and not only this book the whole entire trilogy is awesome. I loved reading them all but I enjoyed this one a tiny bit more. I felt it had action from the very start and was really fast paced. The others were the same but the first two slowed down in the middle of the story. This one didn't, the action didn't stop. I felt sick/nervous/scared while reading it, it was fucking intense to say the least. But I was happy with the outcome and ending. A few times in this book there was some "omg" moments that left you feeling like shit but that's how good books make you FEEL. It was definitely a great conclusion to the series. I didn't have any issues with the writing, it was well written and the plot was well thought out, interesting & moved smoothly. I have now adopted Wydrin's vocabulary because I love her so much so Fuck me sideways that was a bloody great book. It had a bloody great happy ending so go read it you bastards xD “I am the Copper Cat of Crosshaven, she told herself. I am the daughter of Devinia the Red. I can take this bitch.” I didn't think Jen could think of anything else to put in her novels like she has given us everything good from zombies, dragons, mages, giant spiders, mountain monsters, sea monsters, crazy gods, demons, Griffins haha you name she's thought of it but this book is about something else I absolutely adore.. TIME TRAVEL. I loved it ! I didn't see it coming and I absolutely enjoyed reading it. I really wish this wasn't the end of the series. But it's safe to say I'm a fan of Jen Williams forever now and can't wait for her to release more books ! [image] I'm so sad to be ending my journey with the black feather three, I don't know if I want to do a happy dance or ugly cry. I truly love my three babies and hate that I have finished this trilogy. I WANT MORE “Sebastian’s blood soared with the silver tide.” The characters in this story were amazing, I had some issues in the beginning with Sebastian, he acted like a sooky teenage boy and it disgusted me. I understand he was heartbroken but he made me so angry with how childish he was being, but I'm glad he came back to being my precious cinnamon roll. Dragon rider and full time badass gay knight. Haha so I liked the decisions he made at the end and I'm so happy for him. Oster was amazing and I ship him & Seb so much. [image] Frith is a character that really grew on me throughout the series I didn't like him very much. After reading this book I love Frith so much he was so consistent throughout this story and I ended up loving him so much, I love his new magic and thought it was very unique. I think I liked him in the last book but not as much as I like him now. Lord Aaron Frith of Blackwood <3 Wydrin is my favorite female character ever, I love her so much ! She is so badass & outspoken, I can honestly say I've never liked a character as much as I like Wydrin. She is the breath of fresh air for this series she makes every terrible situation funny. [image] “I saw her murder and eat people, and she would not have stopped, not until every human was a dusty black mark on a rock somewhere. I saw that, while you were sitting out here in your commune for weirdos.” Her one on one fights in this book were absolutely amazing. She is so hectic. Stronger than a man and swears like a sailor xD “Somehow she had lost Glassheart too, but the Tower Gauntlets were there, lying amongst the broken glass. Stumbling slightly she snatched them up and slid them over her bare hands. There was a sensation, like plunging your hands into hot water, and she made a pair of fists in front of her. The gauntlets were over-sized but beautiful, and she grinned, tasting blood in her mouth. STOP READING! SPOILERS BELOW FOR THE WHOLE SERIES; “Don’t lose my dagger. I’m very fond of it.’ This book gave me the FEELS, Frith & Wydrin's romance was so heart melting. Seriously I don't know when I turned into a cheesy loving romance kinda person, I have never liked romance but lately it has been melting my heart.. Especially Frith & Wydrin, seriously they are my favorite ever book couple. I can't get enough of them. Their romance didn't overpower the plot at all but it was there and it was beautiful. “Yes. Well. I can say now that I’m really glad you weren’t stabbed to death by that bitch, because I fucking love you, Lord Aaron Frith.” [image] I recommend this book to everyone who loves Epic fantasy & everyone else :D ...more |

4.5 STARS ✩✩✩✩ Buddy read with my homies at BB&B
This book gave me the feels & made me want to do a happy dance after finish 4.5 STARS ✩✩✩✩ Buddy read with my homies at BB&B
This book gave me the feels & made me want to do a happy dance after finishing it. So here's my happy dance, I kinda wanna sing "I loooove everything I l-l-love everything I do" while doing it! [image] Okay so I'm going to start this review off by talking about my rating, so I absolutely loved this book.. Why didn't I give it 5 stars than? Well firstly it isn't one of my 'favorites', I can't compare this book to some other books I've read this year because they were just unbelievable but in saying that this book has three of my favorite characters ever. The story is awesome it just didn't blow my mind! From now on I'm saving my five stars for those books that change my life in some way and this book just didn't do that for me. I had my issues with this book, even tho it is much better then the first I did struggle a tiny bit while reading it, I'm not sure if it is because I've been super busy lately or if I'm in abit of a reading slump. But with all that aside I enjoyed this book, I loved nearly everything about it. The authors writing skills have improved so much since book one, I am truly impressed. The first book was abit choppy and hard to read because it was a bunch of short stories put into one big story, so a lot of the time it just didn't add up. In this book you don't get that! Thank god, it actually reads like a normal novel. The story itself is amazing and really unique and different, the author certainly hasn't ripped anyone's ideas off, it is a super original fun read and guess what it is totally fucking weird... But in a good way! IT is a great refreshing read for all fantasy lovers. Okay so in my opinion this book was super creepy, like some moments I was scared... It had demon possession, ghosts, dragons, zombies, mountain creatures, spiders, centipedes... So anything epic.. This book has it! [image] "He made a pact with a demon, and through that made his greatest and most terrible works. He crafted the Edeian, as well as wielding the powers of a mage. But one day he asked to see the true form of the demon, for he had grown fond of it. When he saw its real face, he went insane." The shape of the prophet was very still now, and the clacking of the bones had stopped. Nuava swallowed hard, wondering if she should keep talking." It was terrifying, they said, and ugly beyond anything mortal. They said that if he were a normal man, he would have been struck blind aswell. They said-" I found this story wasn't as fun as the first one, some really sad shit happened and I did cry more then once while reading it. I cried at the sad parts and I also found myself crying because I didn't want it to end, I could read about the black feather three for eternity.. Haha. But even if it was grimmer & a lot darker then the first it had a lot of relief; it had funny moments, pure badassery, romance & a lot of fun times for the three besties (the comradeship is actually amazing in this book, it feels so real and unforced) Okay so now I'm going to talk about my babies and there could be some MAJOR spoilers so don't read any further unless you've actually read the book. (view spoiler)[ So let's start with Lord Aaron Frith. In book one I found his character frustrating and selfish, but in this book you totally see a different side to him and guess what? HE TURNED INTO A FUCKING BADASS - don't get me wrong in book one he had his badass moments but he was an ass, in this book all of his selfishness is nearly gone (when I say nearly I mean it he only had one moment in this book where I questioned him as a character) he killed a man to activate his machine.. An innocent man by that but I get it he is a character who is driven by revenge and yes he gave the guys wife a pension and looked after his kids but it was still a shock, I'm glad he felt bad about his actions even if he is doing something for the 'greater good' it still sucks to hurt innocents and it sucks to be the reader and feel guilty! But with all that aside he really grew on me and I'm pretty much inlove with Lord Frith now he is our little princeling. Oh and I got my dream ending at the end of this book so Bravo Jen William's for giving me the feels.
Sir Sebastian was fucking great in this book, I loved the flashbacks to Seb's past, it made me cry... Poor Seb. The whole thing with him seeing his mother and her turning her back on him actually broke my fucking heart like my poor cinnamon roll! He doesn't deserve that shit he is truly an awesome guy and lives to save the innocents. I really loved Dallen & Seb, I honestly wanted more but didn't get it. The development with Seb and the brood sisters was my favorite part of this story. I love the fact that very one in the book mistook Seb's kindness.. There was one point where someone was like "your too soft to kill me" next minute he has a sword through his throat... Don't underestimate my baby.. He is a born killer!!! Seb is a peach and I feel super protective over him he is probably one of my favorite characters ever, he is so beautiful :') “You are too merciful. You are the good one, the honourable one. You would not—’ The brood army; holy fuckery... I love them so much, my green lizard babies!!! Everything they do makes me smile, I'm going to contradict myself and say that even when they killed innocents I didn't really care, I know what your thinking I just bad mouthed Frith for killing innocents but that is different he isn't half dragon! I just love them so much, I found myself fan girling over them and crying because I just can't get enough! Ephemeral is seriously the best ever <333 Wydrin.... I LOVE HER!!! She is my baby she is literally my favorite female character ever, the things she says has me laughing out loud, she is a total badass and I love her so much !!! If anyone thinks they know badass females characters, you haven't met Wydrin yet... She is the definition of badass, I couldn't ask for more from a character. She is my lethal petal, there was a moment in this book where she was afraid to show her true feelings.. When you have a strong character like Wydrin that's what you expect, she is very realistic and very relatable for me. Oh and did I mention how much I love her... LOL! Oh and her overuse of the word bastard was amazing! “They tore around another corner, and now they were very close. Wydrin could see that the long, horn-like barbs on the centipede’s rear end were flexing at them aggressively, and there was some sort of dark fluid oozing from the pointed ends. Joah demonsworn was a worm and the cruelest most powerful character I have ever come across, I really truly hated him so much !!!!! Beezcavar is one of the most terrifying characters ever, why won't he just die? Lol (hide spoiler)] There she was, standing in the dark, lit in shades of grey and orange by the moon and their dying fire; a girl, taller than he remembered, wearing leathers and furs, her long brown hair brushed back from her face and secured into a braid. Her eyes were filled with blood, and her hands were red to the wrists. Who would I recommend this too; everyone! So go read it people, you won't be disappointed, it's a warm, happy (sometimes) awesome read & if you don't I will throw it at you & it will hurt because its a big ass book. [image] ...more |

The title is very accurate and this book will RUIN you. You have been warned. 'Two for vengeance. One for love.’ [image] This part of the review does not contain *spoilers* but could have some cussing This series really means a lot to me, I literally love so many things about it. This book was definitely my favorite out of the three but I do need to mention that I hated that ending. It honestly came close to ruining the ending for me and this series but I will not be stubborn just because of my broken heart and will continue reading books by this author plus the rest of this book was awesome. I loved the character development and adored the world building I must say after the last book I will definitely miss The banished lands and our friends from there.. I am upset at the author for that ending and a few other things but I am willing to forgive him for letting most of my other favorite characters survive. I swear I will die a little inside if any more of my faves die. [image] Ruin was a brilliant book that I really enjoyed :D it was filled with pure badassery and a lot of EPIC battles. This book actually has some of my favorite battles. Seriously some of the battles are so detailed and good I felt myself squirming just by reading them. This book was mind blowing, fantastic, epic and just simply a great read. Dammit now I have to wait for the next book !! "Corban, I’m scared," Cywen said. He gripped her hand and squeezed. "So am I," This is exactly how I felt while reading Ruin.. I was scared. I was scared and nervous because I know the author doesn't mind killing off his characters - this is the thing that makes me most nervous.. After reading two HUGE books that are both 700 plus words, it makes it hard to lose the characters you have grown to love. John Gywnne does a phenomenal job of making you have a lot of feelings about his characters, even makes you feel sympathy for the bad guys at times because his characters are so deep and well written. Most characters I love and by love I mean can't cope if anything bad happens to them, and everything bad happens to the characters I love so the whole book I pretty much couldn't cope and was close to hyperventilating. John Gywnne definitely does not go easy on his characters.. They always seem to die in the most horrible way possible, which is terrifying if you are an emotional reader like me lol. I felt like I was unable to devour this book due to being terrified of its brutalness towards my babies, sometimes I was actually nervous to continue lol. ‘It is a serious thing,’ Laith said, ‘taking a life. A sad thing, I think, though better to take another’s than to lose your own. Many of my kin consider the thorns a badge of honour. I suppose it is that as well.’ ‘It is,’ Cywen said. ‘But something can be many things, or can mean many things, not just be confined to the one. Like us.’ Laith looked at her intently [image] ****WARNING!! The rest of the review CONTAINS *SPOILERS FOR BOOK 1, 2 & 3 SO BEWARE* so only read if you have read the books or do not plan to read the books ever.. Please don't say I spoiled you, you have been warned :) I actually expected the second half of the book to go the complete opposite way to what it actually did it has really shocked me. It all started going sour for me when Jaels warband reached Gramms hold. I knew it was going to be bad but I didn't think it could have been as bad as it was.. I didn't expect a man to be impaled on a wall with a knife through his wrists then have his belly eaten by a bear while he was still alive, WHILE HIS SON WATCHED. Now don't get me wrong I love sick shit, i thought Ramsay Bolton was a bad guy but honestly he doesn't have shit on the characters in this book.. Flaying & castrating.. Pfft that's child's play compared to the torture scenes in this book. This book actually gave me chills at times I was CRINGING through most of it, but in saying that I loved it haha. Corban was like a different person in this book, his character development over the series has really impressed me. Like I have said in previous reviews he has gone from crybaby who needed his sister to bash his bullies to bad ass warrior but now he has turned into something completely different.. He is now a worthy leader in my opinion he is still my cinnamon roll but he has balls now and is a great leader to the people who are following him. At the start of this book I found him annoying now I think he is brave and definitely the best character in this series now. The twist that Meical reveal towards the end was huge and I really don't know how this character will come back from it so I certainly look forward to this particular character in the next book. I'm also excited to see how Corban & Coralen interact in the next book. I feel like they would make a great couple and I would adore them together. [image] There was a part in this book were Coralen was mad at Corban for not acknowledging her kiss, her anger made the relationship feel real to me. ‘I am not your enemy,’ he repeated, ‘and I do not wish to die whilst training on the weapons court.’ ‘Sorry,’ she muttered. She’d been first on the weapons court this morning, expecting to see Corban, fully intending to give him as many bruises as was physically possible during a morning’s training. When he had not turned up it made her angrier, her only option to take it as a personal insult. He is avoiding me. Akar had been the first unfortunate man who had asked her if she wished to spar with him. This is not working. I need to see Corban and tell him what I think of him. What I think of a man who gets kissed by a woman and then avoids that woman for a ten-night. And especially when that woman is me. Me, who’s punched and kicked and bitten a score of men that tried to kiss me, and now . . . She screamed internally. Coralen strode from the court, slamming her practice blade into a wicker barrel as she left. Coralen is another favorite of mine. She is fierce, passionate, sassy and a weapon in herself. She would have to be one of the most skilled characters in the book and she is female.. Yay ! She has impressed me from the start and continues to do so. She has certainly claimed Corban as her own lol. The new friendship being forged between Cywen and Coralen is amazing, it feels real & genuine and I love it. ‘What would you like in return?’ Coralen asked her. ‘A trade.’ ‘Teach me how to use that,’ Cywen said, pointing to Coralen’s sword. ‘All right then,’ Coralen said and held her arm out. They gripped and shook forearms. I like her a bit more, already. Every Time I think of Cywen I smile, I love her! She is my favorite character in the whole series, she has been from book one and will continue to stay that way. Her character growth has impressed me so much and I am so proud of the resilient woman she has become. I totally felt for Cywen through the whole book, her feeling not included made me sad. I really appreciated what Brina did for Cywen making her feel needed and thought the growth between their relationship was beautiful :') I feel like nothing would go smoothly without Brina lol, Brina intrigues me, I love her but feel there is more to Brina then we know so far. This is another character I'm excited to see in the next installment. I'm so glad Craf has survived as long as he has he is the funniest thing in this book, hands down, he amuses me so much. Veradis has completely changed my mind on him again. I hated him through most of the book, again. But loved him the last half. He has definitely become a character I have a lot of feels for. I would be shattered if anything was to happen to him in the next book. Camlin went through hell in this book, I felt so sorry for him but it made me love him even more. I really enjoy camlin's character throughout this book he has been amazing from the first book and is even better now. He has become so loyal, his loyalty to Edana is swoon worthy. I think they have feelings for each other and would love to see a relationship between the two. Edana is another character I have started to really love, she has developed into a strong honorable leader, she is also turning into a fantastic warrior which I love ! She's not weak anymore, yay ! Maquin is my guy. I love this character so much. He melts my heart.. Seriously! He gives me the feels and he is so special he needs one thousand and two cuddles, John Gywnne has been cruel to my precious & it has killed me :'( 'In the Pit I was called old wolf, the only name I've gone by for a good long while. I am a trained killer. Have become that which I hate I still don't really have words to describe I feel about what this character has gone through. It makes me cringe & gives me anxiety everytime I read a page of his POV. I was close to hyperventilating and on the verge of ugly crying through this whole entire part in the book. I swear there was one part where I held my breath and I couldn't even keep reading but couldn't stop, lol. I was so glad for the romance in this book (even tho it didn't last many chapters, it was still so good) it melted my heart and gave me the feels big time. She has reminded me what it is like to be a man, not just a trained killer. That feels good, too [image] Fidele & Maquin are my ship and will forever be my ship. I fell inlove with the both of them while they did, it really felt like a real relationship to me not forced and I absolutely adored them together. (view spoiler)[ I’ll not give you up,’ she said fiercely. ‘I returned from death to life for you. Rumours aren’t going to scare me' Maquin grinned. (hide spoiler)] I will never ever forget my queen and my pit fighter these two will go down as two of my favorite characters ever. In the first book I didn't even notice either of them and now I'm saying this. LOL ! I'm so nervous for the next book if anything happens to my ship I will probably sink with it. [image] I feel like I don't hate Nathair as much as I did considering what happen to him in this book, I feel like he is just another pawn in the game to the g-ds. But in saying that I can't wait to see him die. Calidus is the reason for all my hate now. I hate him more then anything, he is literally a demon in every possible way. What happened in this book with him mortified me and I can't wait to read what happens next lol. I did feel sorry for Nathair when(view spoiler)[Calidus and uthas cutting the lock from nathairs head to control him. My sympathy for nathair has risen and now I actually feel sorry for him, he honestly thought he was the bright star & now he is not. I also think calidus has just taken over everything even with Nathair still controlling himself he is scared of calidus now, I can't believe some of the choices he has made by himself and the ones with calidus controlling him. 5/5 “Revenge is a bittersweet fruit that leaves the foul aftertaste of regret.” THIS BOOK WAS IMPECCABLE. Like how dare it be so perfect! 5/5 “Revenge is a bittersweet fruit that leaves the foul aftertaste of regret.” THIS BOOK WAS IMPECCABLE. Like how dare it be so perfect! Seriously it gave me all the FEELS possible. Like I need a feel doctor, up in here to fix this shit, this book made me melt into a pile of goo, I HATE ROMANCE WITH A PASSION. I'm like the love grinch, I'm a dedicated, pure and total romance hater. I hate all soppy shit & secretly hate all things cute. However this book was so terribly cute that i need to grow my nails long and rake them down my own face. I loved everything (especially the romance). I loved Royces changes. I loved how Hadrian stayed the same. I loved Arista's development. I loved Myron from the beginning. Favourite Quote and of course it came from Myron "Life is only precious if you wish it to be.’ I look at it like the last bite of a wonderful meal—do you enjoy it, or does the knowledge that there is no more to follow make it so bitter that you would ruin the experience?” But most of all I loved the bromance, yep folks I finally get it and am currently the driver of the hype train because this series is amazing. I genuinely love a slow burn fantasy and this series is exactly that. First book imo was pretty average, second book was pretty good it was slow and I felt something was missing, book three was exceptional. It had the missing thing and that was emotion, I was finally emotionally attached to the characters, I immediately saw the bromance and I was gobsmacked at how much I loved it's HEA ending. Even the romance gave me the sniffles, because it was so annoyingly adorable. Oh and did I mention the romance? (Yep 3 times already). So it's confirmed folks I'm not a weirdo and I finally discovered what a gem this series actually is. Each book gets better and better. [image] The writing is sensational and I think Michael J Sullivan is extremely talented. One thing I really loved in this book was the things that happened in the characters past was all a big build up to the end, I'm so glad Michael managed to tie everything together and I thought he did a fantastic job of keeping me entertained throughout the series. Looking forward to reading the authors other books. A satisfying end to a wonderful and FUN series. Recommended to all fantasy lovers, I also think this would be a great introduction for someone wanting to read epic fantasy. One last thing.. The dedication page destroyed me;

4/5 Stars I really enjoyed reading Rise of Empire, I definitely enjoyed it more then Theft of Swords. This book certainly picked up the pace from book 4/5 Stars I really enjoyed reading Rise of Empire, I definitely enjoyed it more then Theft of Swords. This book certainly picked up the pace from book one, seriously interesting things actually happened in this book. The plot was fast paced and stimulating. I believe there was a fair bit of badassery going on. I didn't even notice the weird emotionless POV much this time, like yeah it was obviously still there, [image] but it's more bearable because I've finally warmed up to the characters. This still isn't my favourite 'bromance' ever, I really like Royce and Hadrian and enjoy their banter. But for me the bromance just isn't there yet, like I feel I'm missing something. ARE WE READING THE SAME BOOK?!? [image] Once again this book is two novels in one. This time around we get Nyphron Rising and The Emerald Storm. All stories are a continuation of each other with a connected plot, so it flows really well. Michael J Sullivan is a fantastic writer, his books are easy to read, his a great vivid world-builder and its definitely a humorous and fun read. I found the pacing better in this instalment then Theft of Swords, the overall storyline was once again unoriginal but good. In my opinion this book was a little more my cup tea. Theft of Swords was very "classic" fantasy, it didn't have much violence. Whereas this book Rise of Empire was a little more dark, we got to read about the darker side to Royce, Hadrian and Arista. I really enjoyed the overall vibe in this book, we witnessed a few brutal barbaric acts like floggings and the fight scenes which might I add were next level to what I saw in book one, they were fantastic, a certain fight scene was so amazing, I was on the edge of seat while reading it, while having heart palpitations, so yeah that was pretty fun. This book was also more complex then the first, it had a few major twists, aswell as castle intrigue, court politics, love and relationship secrets, *sounds of amazement* finally getting some good stuff out of Michael J Sullivan's novels. Its definitely safe to say I'm a fan of The Riyria and want more! I can't wait to finish the series. [image] Seriously I love Arista so much. I just low key wish I was her so I could turn people into frogs. I didn't like Nyphron Rising as much as The Emerald Storm, only because it wasn't as action packed, other then that it was a really good book. I liked it a lot. I love Arista so was happy to have a story with her POV, as one of the main POV's. This story is set a year after the last book, and is basically about the beginning of a war. Hadrian and Royce are now both retired but go on their 'last mission' (they're always saying, every mission is their last lol). Arista sets off on a mission to save her brothers empire and takes Hadrian and Royce with her. The story was thrilling and engaging enough, I just wanted more action?! Luckily The Emerald Storm delivered me a lot of violence so I'm now a happy camper. My favorite out of the two stories was definitely The Emerald Storm, it was so EPIC. This book is what I was waiting for, seriously thank you Michael J Sullivan for finally showing me your potential as an author, this book definitely exceeded my expectations and I loved it! Seriously, it was so bloody good. It was your typical action packed Pirate story, we follow Royce and Hadrian as they go on a journey to find an object. Of course the journey doesn't go to plan and they find themselves in a deadly location. The rumours are definitely true folks, this series gets better with each book. The twists and reveals at the end were mind blowing and IT ACTUALLY HAD AWESOME FIGHT SCENES. This was an action packed, fun, exhilarating book that I absolutely loved reading and I just need to fangirl over Hadrian, Royce & Arista. Seriously they are all awesome. I really missed Myron this story but found Hadrian's POV to be my relief this time around. I really love Hadrian now, he is so amazing, clumsy, funny, dopey and he is very badass and handsome. Definitely swoon worthy, when he withdrew his Spadone sword shit got hectic and a lot of people died(yayayayaya). But I can't chose if I like him more then Royce or not. Royce definitely had a few standout badass moments in these books and I have a new level of respect for him. "Oh, sir, you have no idea what Royce is like. I'll grant you that his association with Hadrian Blackwater has tempered him greatly. Twelve years with that idealistic dreamer have made him practically human, but I know him. I know what lurks beneath. I've seen things that make even my hardened heart shudder. Get his anger up, and you'll unleash a demon that no one can control. Believe me, he's like that and so much more. Nothing is beyond him" I recommend this book to all fantasy lovers. Although I must say if you are looking for a blood bath or a high violence fantasy, then keep on looking this is a more humorous soft fantasy, with classic themes. Definitely a fun filled read that I'm sure most fantasy fans would love. Nyphron Rising - 3.5/5 The Emerald Storm - 4.5/5 Total Rating - 4/5 ...more |

1000/5 "The Age of Kings is dead . . . and I have killed it." [image] I.AM.DEAD I haven't had the FEELS like this while reading a book in a su 1000/5 "The Age of Kings is dead . . . and I have killed it." [image] I.AM.DEAD I haven't had the FEELS like this while reading a book in a such a long time. I swear, I had the feeling I had when I first read mistborn.. wait okay, maybe not that amount of feels but it was close. I love when you find a book you can't put down! Every chance I got to read this book I would drop all my other priorities. Even eating! This is my favourite read of 2017 so far. [image] "He had to do it the old fashioned way. One bullet at a time. No, he realized. He was Taniel Two-Shot. He'd take two at once." So this book is the debut novel from Brandon Sandersons writing student Brian McClellan. I definitely saw the similarities in the writing style & honestly it made me so goddamn happy. I've been waiting forever for an author like Sanderson, his writing is so unique and simple. Brian's is very similar but it was still different. In my honest opinion Sanderson is still the king and I don't think his student will ever surpass his awesomeness (obviously, no one can). But Brian McClellan has a new mega fangirl. This book is amazing & I am so impressed that this masterpiece is a debut novel. Basically the plot is about Field Marshall Tamas who has just killed the King of his country to help the citizens of his country. But in doing so he has provoked a war with the Nine Nations. Tamas is stretched to his limit and only has his Powder Mages to protect him. This is a compelling & beautifully written, Flintlock Fantasy with one of the coolest magic systems ever. People are comparing it to Full Metal Alchemist and I think that's a perfect comparison for the magic system, so if your a FMA fan, you'll love this series. The feels were so strong with this one, it literally had everything I love in a story; Main Characters who are tortured by their past, friendships, bromances, badassery, sass & heartbreak. The story is told from three main POVS, Tamas, Taniel & Adamant. It also features another POV from Nila but she only had a few chapters. I enjoyed all POVS in this book & wasn't bored once, I definitely had my favourite point of views & that was Taniel's & his dad's Tamas. I thought Adamants POV was less exciting, his meant to be a detective but he wasn't a very clever one imo. I also didn't enjoy Nila's mainly because, i hate her guts, but hers was still more exciting then Adamants. Some of the side characters were absolutely amazing Olem, Sabon, Gavril, SouSmith, Vlora, Mihali, Bo & my second favourite character in the whole novel Ka-Poel. She's now one of my all time favourite female characters ever. Like this chick is the definition of badass, she's also a very special snowflake because she's a mute. Somehow she still managed to be hilarious & captivating, without even saying a word. My favourite was Taniel, I love Taniel so much. My beautiful, troubled, sweet, black powder sniffing babe. "I need to get me one of those," Taniel said. "What?" Gavril asked. "A harem?" "Yeah," Taniel said. it's official guys, I'm joining Taniel's harem. If I only had five words to describe this book I would use: fun, thrilling, unique, badass & amazing. "You the toughest one here?" Definitely a must read for all fantasy fans and all Sanderson fans. I expect great things from this author in the future and I am officially addicted to the Powder Mage series & I can't stop snorting gun powder in the hope of becoming a Powder Mage. Buddy read with my favourite Privileged; Wifey, Dr Petrik,Haifa,Terry,Stefan & Twila. P.s. when I die please bury me with Mistborn, Stormlight archive & the Powder Mage series. I'll be fangirling from the grave. P.s.s. my soul has left my body from that ending. ...more |
