"The Birthplace of Steel" is a theme from Kirby's Return to Dream Land primarily associated with the mechanical level, Egg Engines. It was composed by Hirokazu Ando.[1]
Composition[edit]
"The Birthplace of Steel" is a mechanical-sounding track in G minor and 4/4. Its intro introduces this theme's unique motif: an arpeggio with an unusual triad consisting of minor and augmented thirds. This motif serves as the bassline, whereas the melody is a transposed version of "Exploring the Cave" played by an electric guitar. Following up is a reverb-heavy transition void of the previous two motifs. The motif of "Exploring the Cave" then subtly joins prior to a descending guitar passage and reprise. In this section, the melody's lead instrument changes, and the intro motif is simplified. Then, a repeat of the transition occurs, now with the intro motif played from dominant. The volume intensifies before this motif returns to its original pitch. The track then loops.
