Biography[]
Early life[]
Ethan was close friends with Jonathan Kent when they were both attended Smallville High; even signing Jonathan's yearbook with the message "To Jonathan, a great quarterback; a better friend."
He was also the first Smallville resident to meet Jonathan and Martha's newly-adopted son, Clark. Ethan continued working for the Sheriff's department, eventually becoming sheriff. Sheriff Miller was always on the scene involving meteor-infected incidents when it came to Tina Greer, Earl Jenkins and Harry Volk.
Suspect[]
In "Suspect," Ethan was secretly working for Lionel Luthor, providing him with background information on LexCorp's Board of Directors so Lionel could blackmail them into selling their shares and thus buy-out LexCorp to force his son Lex to come back. He did it in exchange for payouts. When Ethan couldn't reconcile Lionel's demands with his own conscience, he tried to break-off the relationship.
But Lionel threatened to expose the sheriff's wrongdoings if he didn't continue to do favors for LuthorCorp from time to time. Deciding to terminate their arrangement himself, Ethan sneaked into the Luthor Mansion and shot Lionel twice in the chest and left him for dead.
Ethan then made the difficult choice to frame Jonathan Kent for the crime and had Mike, another high school friend, drug him. Using well-known tension between Jonathan and Lionel, Ethan had Jonathan drugged his beer at the Wild Coyote and laid out evidence that led to Jonathan's arrest. To cover his tracks, he killed Mike and left his body in the freezer at the Wild Coyote.
Clark and Pete Ross found the body and came up with a plan to draw the shooter out. First, they put the word out that Lionel was getting better; then they moved him to another floor in the hospital. Sheriff Miller showed up and shoots Lionel's empty bed. Clark disarms him and confronted him with everything he knows; that the Sheriff also faked Jonathan's blood alcohol test. His plot, however, was uncovered by Clark, and he was arrested serving a prison sentence for murder. Ethan was later replaced by Nancy Adams as the new Sheriff.
