~ Maureen McReary on her late husband. |
Mr. McReary is an overarching antagonist in the 2008 video game, Grand Theft Auto IV. He is the late father of the McReary children and the founder of the McReary Crime Family. Due to his death before the events of the game, he is never seen.
Biography[]
Mr. McReary was born in Ireland sometime during the late 1920's to early 1930's. He eventually met his future wife, Maureen, who he later married and moved to Dukes, Liberty City with. Despite starting a new life with her, McReary despised his wife and would constantly abuse her physically and psychologically. During the 1950's and 1960's, McReary formed a Mafia family along with his connections with other Irish criminals. By 1980, the two had five children, Derrick, Francis, Gerald, Patrick and Kate.
Just like his wife, McReary treated his children horribly, with him constantly abusing, berating and scolding them, excluding Kate, who he actually and truly loved and respected. According to Patrick, McReary was also a massive alcoholic, implying that he would usually assault Patrick and his brothers when he became drunk. When Niko hangs out with Patrick, he may open up, stating that his father molested him and Gerald, with it being implied that he also molested Derrick and Francis.
Sometime before 2008, McReary committed suicide, with only his wife grieving his death. It is never revealed why McReary killed himself, but it can be implied that McReary realized the error of his ways and realized the only way he could forgive himself was to commit suicide. Since then, no one, excluding Maureen has cared for McReary's death, showing how much of a horrible person he was.
