~ Gort taunting Lora over the death of her mother. |
Gort is a minor character in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and a major antagonist of its prequel story Torna ~ The Golden Country. He is Lora's abusive and criminal stepfather who he seeks to kill and reclaim his stolen Blade, Jin.
He was voiced by Syunsuke Sakuya in the Japanese version, and by John Eastman in the English version.
Biography[]
Gort was a mercenary serving Amalthus whose job was to steal Core Crystals from across the Titans and sell them. He was accompanied by Rynea, his personal maid, who he tended to abuse. After three years of planning, he was able to steal Jin's Core Crystal, a powerful Blade from a castle. That night, Lora, Rynea's daughter, accidentally resonated with Jin's Core Crystal, awakening him. Enraged, Gort immediately prepares to kill Lora for Jin to return to his Core Crystal, throwing aside Rynea when she tries to protect her daughter. Suddenly, Jin swiftly subdues Gort by slashing off his right arm, prompting him and Lora to run away.
Seventeen years pass and it is revealed that Gort was gifted a weaponized prosthetic arm, giving him the codename "Bluefist". First seen looting the Core Crystals left behind in the ruins of Feltley Village after it is destroyed by Malos, he notices Lora and Jin alongside Addam and Mythra as they move through Torna to meet up with Haze. Plotting his vengeance for his arm. He uses a following Blade to transmit a signal with someone in his gang, telling them to give him more time before he sells the Core Crystals he obtained from Feltley Village, as he wants to take care of something else real quick.
Later in Gormott, as Lora and Haze observe Rynea's grave in the Torigoth Cemetery, Gort and his hired mercenaries ambush them. Knowing that Lora would be accompanied by Haze, whose ability restricts Blades, he only brought humans to face her. Just as Gort was about to gain the upper hand, Jin arrives and slashes off both of Gort's arms. Emperor Hugo and Addam apprehend Gort's men, while Gort himself takes the opportunity to flee. Lora requests Jin and the others to spare Gort due to him treating her mother properly.
During Gort's retreat, he trips and is found by Indoline soldiers patrolling with Stannif and is knocked unconscious. Stannif plans to use Gort as a prototype for a Blade Eater, a human that absorbed a Blade's Core Crystal, with Amalthus acknowledging the procedure, finding Gort a waste of a human being. The experiment turns Gort into a large monstrous humanoid with a large mechanized arm and his face protruding from its mouth. After Mythra causes Torna's destruction following her battle with Malos and Lora and Addam go their separate ways in the evacuation land of Spessia, the Blade Eater monster that was once Gort suddenly appears before Lora, Jin, Haze, and Mikhail. He becomes ecstatic from the pain his new arm gives him, finding thrill in now killing Lora and her friends for both revenge and his pleasure. Lora decides to no longer show any mercy and works together alongside Jin and Haze to take down Gort. In his dying breath, Gort cries out that he still wanted to play. Once Lora knew that Gort was out of his misery, she assures her mother to rest easy.
Personality[]
Gort is a violent, greedy man who is only interested in wealth, showing no concern over killing Lora even as a young girl. After being turned into a Blade Eater, he becomes even more psychotic, going into detail about how he would enjoy watching them suffer as he bathed in their blood to treat his nonstop pain.
His only redeeming quality is his respect for Rynea, which is why Lora wanted Jin to spare his life. As abusive as he was to her, he still treated her well. However, this may not be the case as he continuously refers to her as a bitch.
