Admiral Apwar Trigit is the secondary antagonist of the Star Wars Legends X-Wing novel Wraith Squadron. He is an independently functioning Imperial officer.
Biography[]
Apwar Trigit was an admiral of the Galactic Empire. At one point, he served under Ysanne Isard, but following her defeat he went rogue with his flagship, the Implacable, and entered the service of Warlord Zsinj. He instigated Project Morrt, where small droids attached themselves to New Republic ships in order to track their movements and locate bases. He also employed Lieutenant Gara Petrothel, an expert slicer, to feed the New Republic false information on the defences of the Gravan system. This lured Talon Squadron into a trap where Trigit's forces wiped out all but one of their pilots.
Trigit recalled Petrothel to serve aboard the Implacable. Zsinj queried whether it would have been best to kill her as a loose end. Trigit replied that Isard's main flaw was disposing of everyone she had no more use for, meaning they had no reason to stay loyal to her, and Zsinj agreed. Trigit tracked the New Republic base on Folor and launched an attack but was distracted by the sight of burning fuel dumps on the opposite side of the moon to where the base was, delaying his strike. Furthermore, his attempt to harass the evacuating New Republic fleet was further hampered when transmissions by Kell Tainer, a member of Wedge Antilles' new Wraith Squadron, tricked him into believing Han Solo, Princess Leia and the Millennium Falcon were evacuating on a different course, causing him to break off and try and intercept the non-existent target. As a result, although Trigit's attack destroyed the base, the majority of the New Republic forces safely evacuated beforehand.
Trigit realised bases visited by one of his support ships, Night Caller, were attacked and destroyed soon after and suspected they were being followed. He was unaware of the truth: Night Caller had been captured by Wraith Squadron and was now crewed by disguised New Republic personnel. Wraith Squadron member Face Loran was using a holographic image to pose as the ship's former commander, Captain Derillion, in communication with Trigit. Readings from Project Morrt indicated there was a New Republic base at Talasea and Trigit assembled a force to attack. En route, Petrothel realised the readings had been manufactured and they were flying into a trap. Trigit ordered the Implacable to drop out of hyperspace but his warning to his support vessels came too late: One of them, Provocateur, was destroyed and the other, Constrictor, was captured. Trigit began to dream of a liaison with Petrothel.
Loran contacted Trigit still posing as Derillion and claimed Night Caller had escaped the trap by flying between New Republic ships so they were unable to fire on him without hitting each other. Trigit formulated a plan to trap Rogue Squadron but Loran convinced him and Zsinj to target a bigger number of New Republic forces by luring them to attack a larger target. Zsinj chose the TIE factory on Ession, since it had a number of grounded TIE fighters that could provide reinforcements. Having taken up position, Trigit was briefly suspicious of Loran when he failed to recognise the Corellian security catch phrase "You follow best by following in front", but Loran allayed his fears by talking intimately of Isard and his supposed obsession with her.
As the Battle of Ession approached, Loran convinced Trigit to let his TIE interceptors (actually piloted by New Republic personnel) escort the Implacable. Petrothel correctly guessed an approaching damaged ship contained New Republic forces, shortly before it launched three squadrons of fighters including Rogue Squadron, and an escape pod full of Lieutenant Page's commandos, who sabotaged the factory and prevented its TIE fighters launching. Night Caller and the TIE interceptors then fired on Implacable at point blank range, wrecking the bridge and destroying the shield generators. Trigit made it to the bridge pit and sealed it off as most of the bridge crew were exposed to vacuum, controlling the ship from there. He gave the order to fire on Night Caller, but targeting sensors were jammed and they were unable to fire visually as the ship was concealed by a dust cloud.
Wraith Squadron launched from the Night Caller, and Trigit recalled his TIE fighters to defend Implacable, even though it left the factory undefended. Realising his failure, he planned to leave Zsinj's service. However, Implacable was crippled by Wraith Squadron pilot Falynn Sandskimmer flying her X-wing through a hole in the hull and destroying the power conduits. Trigit refused to surrender and allow the New Republic to place the Star Destroyer in their service, instead secretly setting the self-destruct and leaving most of his crew to die. After telling Petrothel to head to the shuttle bay to evacuate, Trigit left the ship with his two bodyguards in a trio of TIE interceptors, trying to flee the battle. General Crespin, in command of Blue Squadron, destroyed his two escorts, and Trigit himself was killed when his interceptor was destroyed by Wraith Squadron's Lieutenant Myn Donos, the sole survivor of Talon Squadron.
