One precious little boy ~

Our sweet grandson Murray turned TWO Sept. 19th
and I just have to share a few birthday party photos
from this past weekend!!!

I had to use a flash as the room was dark but
you'll certainly see how very happy he was!

Here he is with his mama waiting to open gifts...

Murray loves cars, trains, trucks...all of them!!!

Clara had as much fun as he did!!!

Mama Emily is showing Murray how to operate the Thomas train ~

Murray loves trains so much...the Thomas cake was just perfect for his party!

I believe he's thinking to himself here..."man, I need a nap!!!"

Happy Birthday sweet grandbaby Murray!!! We love you so, so much ~

Plus, I found the most wonderful box to package my little art doll in!!!
She's heading to Texas tomorrow....

Happy Monday precious friends!!!

A sweet little labor of love ~

I can't believe it!!!
I finally finished my little art doll!!
I'm over the moon in love with how she turned out too...

Her dress came out just the way I had envisioned it ~
full of gathers and embellished with lace.
I loved using the large vintage doll dress to create it too...
The vintage lace was already applied and I simply made it work for her size.

I even made her a little crinoline slip...

She has a sweet headband that I made from the dress fabric as well.

I just love her!!!

She's listed HERE in my Etsy store!!

Wishing you a very happy and creative Thursday precious friends ~
hugs and love,
Dawn

Digging through my stash ~

I absolutely LOVE, love old doll clothes.
No, not those made overseas but those made by
mamas and grandmamas to please their little girls!!!

I have a teeny collection and thought I would go to it for inspiration
for a dress for my sweet art doll.

Guess what I found???
The tiniest pair of panties EVER!!! And they actually FIT
over the chubby belly that I gave my sweet girl dolly.

Then I went through all the doll dresses.
I wanted to find the perfect one that I could transform for her.
I found the most WONDERFUL antique pink one!!!
Now I have to try to make a dress for my small doll from this big dress...
but I think the color will be just beautiful on her!

Can you see it in your mind's eye? :)

Emily had a parent/teacher conference with Clara's kindergarten teacher and
brought our precious grandbabies by so she could go.
Murray and Clara BOTH flocked to Uncle Noah...and Murray just crashed!!!
Clara saw this and decided to lay down too!!
Uncle Noah?
He thinks he has the magic touch!!!!

Wishing you a wonderful Wednesday my sweet, sweet friends!!!
hugs and love,
Dawn

More progress on my little art doll!

My sweet art doll progress...
I'm using Suri Alpaca wool for her hair and have had to comb and clean it,
make little tufts and glue it to her head starting at the nape of her neck.

Yes, she's still a little bald on top in the photo below :)

I finally covered her entire head with a little bit of bangs in the front as well.
Here is a before and after photo after visiting "Dawn's Salon" ~
she's gone from Diana Ross....

to maybe a little Michelle Pfeiffer??? HAHAHA!

I love her so much already!!!
Now to make her a precious dress,
hair bow and maybe even some shoes to match ~

Happy Tuesday angels!!!
Hugs and love,
Dawn

Getting back to my little sweetie!

Yes, it's been awhile!
But I get sidetracked easily and plus I was a bit intimidated
about painting her face ~

But I did it!!!
This weekend I just decided to go for it and if I messed up,
I would just paint over it and start again.

Here's my first try and I'm so pleased...
yes, she's still naked and bald but I'm working on her hair right now.

I'm using suri alpaca wool for her hair.
Each piece has to thoroughly combed and cleaned then
I make tufts to glue around her head starting at the nape of her neck.
I'm going to cut it into a sweet bob I think, we'll see!

You can see in the photo below, on the right is how the hair starts off
and on the left after combing and cleaning....
you have to comb it with a large needle too!

I hope her hair turns out OK...but I guess you never learn until you try!!

And my last set of three pumpkins is finished!!
I just love this wonderful crinkly fabric...
perfect to take you through fall and even into Thanksgiving.
They would be beautiful piled into a wire basket!!!
Now listed in my Etsy shop too :)

Thank you always for stopping by to see what I'm up to ~
Happy Monday precious friends!!!
hugs and love,
Dawn

Making progress!

When you have as much stuff as I do,
it takes awhile to get everything back in order!!!
Plus, I've had other things
to do along the way and have just had to put the studio
on the back burner.

We've had a TON of egg soap orders and
slowly but surely we are finally catching up!

I don't have any studio photos just yet but had to share something with you.
My best bud Lisa of Tarnished and Tattered knew I was working on an art doll.
She told me that she'd been to an estate sale recently and bought a ziplock bag
full of what she thought might just be doll hair!!!

I went to Hobby Lobby to see what they had and it was awful.
Shiny, curly and not at all what I've envisioned on my little baby doll.
Lisa emailed me a photo of what she had and IT. WAS. PERFECT!!!!

That sweetie popped it into an envelope and sent it right over.
Well, it REALLY is so perfect for my little doll!!!
Here's one photo that I took ~
I simply draped one section over the baby's head to show you how it looks.
It's going to be so precious!
But I've got to get this studio re-do finished before I get back to her.
I just hope and pray I can find everything after I finish!!!!
Wish me luck ;)

Wishing you a beautiful Tuesday sweet friends!!!

hugs and love,
Dawn

Shaking things up around here!

I've been antsy for a change in our home for a while now
and I think the time has finally come!

It's not a big change but hopefully it will be a good one.
I've decided to do away with our guest room,
let Noah have the queen bed for his room
(which will also serve as a guest room when my mom and dad visit)
and then I'm going to reorganize my studio
to utilize the guest room space as an extension of my studio.
Yes, I am a hog and have lots of stuff!!

But I will be de-stashing things as well so STAY TUNED
to my Etsy store...I have just GOT to let more things go.

Here are a few old photos that give you an idea of how
these two rooms are connected:

I'll probably only open one French door again
as it gives me a little bit of wall space in each room to utilize.

These are really old photos but you can kind of see
the French doors to the right in the photo below...

Here's another old photo that shows the view from the guest bedroom into
what is currently my studio ~ I love the lace on the doors!

I have a lot of work ahead of me but I PROMISE to share photos!!!!

Here is my little paperclay doll that I'm still working on ~
She's been painted the most beautiful, pale pink
(Martha Stewart Satin "Porcelain Doll")
and is now waiting for her hair to arrive in the mail!

I want to sew her a beautiful little dress when she is finished....

You can kind of tell more about her size in the photo below with my hand in the pic!

And lastly...
I'm have a big ol' FLASH SALE in my Etsy shop!!!!
For the next three days EVERYTHING is 50% OFF!

Simply type in SUMMERSALE in the coupon code box when checking out
and your ENTIRE purchase will be HALF OFF!

Thank you always, always for stopping by to see what I'm up to ~

Wishing you a wonderful Wednesday dear friends,

A little work-in-progress!

I've been thinking of creating this sweet doll for a very long time!!
I finally started her today by creating aluminum foil forms.
I bought the cheapest, thinnest foil I could find too.
It's much easier to manipulate and "sculpt" into body parts.

I want her limbs to move and hang freely, so I used wire to create
a "U" shape and inserted into each limb and to the bottom of her head as well.
I added glue to the edges of the wire and inserted them ~
so they should stay put!

As for the body, I made more "U" shaped wires and inserted those as well BUT
I did not glue those.
Once I form the paper clay over the body and limbs,
I'll have to be able to link them together!
Then I will glue the wire pins into the body.

Stay tuned....I'm still working on the head!

The torso and limbs now have paper clay added ~

It always, always feel so good to be making something to share with you!!!

Happy Saturday precious friends ~
hugs and love,
Dawn

What to do ~

(My very first paper clay art doll was purchased by
artist Lauren Mumford back in 2007...
I was so honored that she bought her!
I always loved Lauren's artwork in the Stampington publications)

I have two HUGE bags of beautiful lavender buds..fragrant...
just waiting to become sachets.

I have so much gorgeous fabric, you know I do,
I've shared so many photos here!

And even this week I received a wonderful package packed
full of wonderful fabrics too!!! What a precious friend,
she doesn't want to be mentioned but I will share photos soon.

But all I can think about is creating a precious art doll.
I can see her in my mind's eye ~
using vintage fabrics for her clothing.

My thumbs are about to fall off from cleaning so many egg soaps and
we have even MORE orders to complete (a true blessing though)

I just keep wondering how long will I talk about making art dolls...
I need to JUST DO IT!

Look at this wonderful video ~ a beautiful handmade marionette!

Happy weekend precious friends!
hugs and love,
Dawn

On my mind ~

First, I have to share the most beautiful image with you...
I love it so much!!!
I purchased it framed but took it out of the frame
just so I could scan it to share with you ~

I've been wanting to make an art doll.
As I sew lavender sachets...that are selling so wonderfully,
in the back of my mind I have a precious doll I want to create...

The other day I finally sketched her out
so I thought I would share her with you ~
she would be made of paper clay and I would so love
creating her sweet, simple clothes:

We'll see how long this takes to come to fruition but
just so you know...
she's on my mind!!!

Wishing you a very happy Tuesday precious friends ~
hugs and love,
Dawn
