Thug was a green-skinned Gamorrean who served as a bodyguard to Jabba the Hutt,[1] a crime lord who operated out of a palace on the planet Tatooine.[3] A member of the Groogrun clan,[2] Thug served alongside Thok, a Gamorrean who left Jabba's criminal empire[4] by 0 ABY.[5] Thug was still working for Jabba when Thok returned to the Hutt's service following the latter Gamorrean's role in assisting the Galactic Empire's Grand Admiral Demetrius Zaarin in a coup against Emperor Palpatine that took place in[4] 3.5 ABY.[6]
In 4 ABY,[7] Thug was one of the Gamorrean guards present in Jabba's Palace at around the time[1] that several Alliance to Restore the Republic operatives arrived in attempt to free their ally, Han Solo, who was held prisoner in the palace.[3] Thug wielded a double-bladed Gamorrean Battleaxe, and was one of the many whom Jabba considered big, strong, and dumb guards who were good individually, and better when utilized in numbers.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
Thug was created onset for 1983's Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, the third film of the original trilogy. A photo of the Gamorrean was included in the 1998 Star Wars: Behind the Magic CD-ROM,[8] although in-universe it is unclear if the character is in the film.[3] Thug was first named in 2001, for the Star Wars Customizable Card Game's Reflections III expansion set.[1]
