- "I was too young to understand that my mother and my father and my uncle had become living shields."
- ―Numa reflects on her family's captivity during the Confederacy's occupation of Ryloth
A male individual came to be the parent of the Twi'lek Numa,[2] who was born four years prior to the Clone Wars.[3] They, along with Numa and her mother,[2] lived within a home in Nabat, a small city on the Twi'lek homeworld Ryloth.[4] In 22 BBY,[5] during the Clone Wars, the Confederacy of Independent Systems invaded Ryloth and attacked Nabat.[4]
In the ensuing chaos, Numa's father was rounded up by the Confederacy along with many of the other inhabitants of Nabat, including Numa's mother and uncle. They were used as living shields against the Galactic Republic,[2] who were attempting to reclaim the planet from the Separatists.[4] However, Numa's father was eventually killed along with her mother before the occupation's conclusion[6] in 21 BBY.[5] Many years later, following the rise of the Galactic Empire, Numa reflected on her family's use as living shields during their subjugation by the Separatists.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
Numa's father was first mentioned, albeit indirectly, in "Innocents of Ryloth,"[4] the twentieth episode of the animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars's first season. The episode aired on March 6, 2009.[7] They were first directly referenced in 2017 reference book Star Wars: On the Front Lines by Daniel Wallace.[2]
In the Star Wars Legends continuity, Numa's father appeared in an issue of the online Star Wars: The Clone Wars comic series titled The Clone Wars: Curfew, which provided a backstory for "Innocents of Ryloth." The comic was written by Pablo Hidalgo, illustrated by Katie Cook,[8] and released on March 9, 2009.[9]

Notes and references[]
- ↑ Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of "Supply Lines" and "Innocents of Ryloth" to 22 BBY and 21 BBY respectively. As Ryloth in the Encyclopedia (content now obsolete; backup link) specifies that the father's death took place during the invasion of Ryloth depicted in those episodes, they must have passed away between those years.
