Defender sporting blaster pistols,[1] also known simply as a Defender Pistol,[4] were a type of blaster pistol favored and used as a sidearm by Leia Organa. She first learned to shoot the Defender as a pre-teen, and displayed a rare talent for shooting. She stunned a mutinous Poe Dameron with one aboard the Raddus.[3] Amilyn Holdo, whose command Dameron had overthrown, carried a Defender pistol.[5]
The Defender was used for small game hunting and self defense. The blasters were popular with nobility and aristocrats due to its lightweight design, ease of disassembly and reassembly, and its ability to be concealed. When broken down into its three components, the blasters could pass through most security scans undetected.[1] Models of Defender sporting blaster pistols included the Satine's Lament and the Defender-5 sporting blaster, which were both made by the Drearian Defense Conglomerate.[1][6]
