Not to be confused with the brand Krak-On, or the Splatoon 3 special weapon, Kraken Royale.
The Kraken (Japanese: ダイオウイカ Daiou-Ika / Giant Squid) is a Special Weapon in Splatoon. The Inkling Squid amiibo provides single player challenges that involve using the Kraken throughout the entire level.
The player will transform into a large and invincible for a short period of time. The Kraken is immune to all enemy damage and freely swims across both enemy ink and dry land at incredible speed, while at the same time leaving a narrow ink trail in its wake. By jumping, the player can attack enemies, dealing enough damage to splat them in one hit.
Usage[]
Like all special weapons, the Kraken must be charged by before use, accomplished by spreading turf. Once charged, the player may click the right analog stick, activating it. When activated, a message with the player's image and the special used (in this case, the Kraken) is displayed for teammates to see. The Kraken has recently been nerfed and now suffers much more knockback.
Tips[]
Use Kraken when you need to close the gap between your opponent.
Using Swim Speed up can slightly increase your speed to surprise opponents.
If timed correctly, Kraken can dodge abilities that are potentially fatal. This includes Seeker, Inkstrike, Inkzooka and many others. This can then allow you to counter attack and avenge your allies.

Considering the Kraken superior to the Bubbler is an error: both make you invincible but this one can't be shared and won't let you use your normal weapons to claim big surfaces safely. As a result, you must keep in mind that this special ability is made for attacking purposes. Whether it's for killing campers or making a pathway for your teammates, it is NOT to simply paint the ground around you in the style of the Inkbrush.
Countering[]
As the Kraken is extremely powerful, it is crucial to get out of the way quickly. Swimming away as a squid is the best option to do so, assuming you already have an ink trail at your disposal.
If you see an Inkling transform into one, get into Squid Form immediately and swim away (Again assuming you have an ink trail ready.) until it wears off.
Do not underestimate the Kraken's speed, because although it is 20% slower than a squid it can still manage to catch up to one. If it is too close to swim from, fire your weapon at it due to the knockback nerf.
If you have to stay in the zone where the Kraken is, whether it's because you have to capture this zone or time is running out, you can still try to strafe or get around it as it has a low turning speed and will have to break its momentum before turning 180°. It's worth trying to mess with the Kraken because they will likely waste their time pursuing you, (Presuming said Kraken is a tryhard.) and you'll protect your allies by doing so.
Like a squid, Kraken will fall through grates. Run over one where it cannot continue chasing you.
Since the Kraken will always go through Grates, standing on one can help protect you.
Notes[]
Lasts 6 seconds.
Cannot take damage for the duration of the ability.
The Kraken was nerfed in version 1.3.0 of Splatoon, making it have more knockback when you hit it with ink.
