Treehouse of Horror VII |

Trivia[]
- This is the first Treehouse of Horror episode to double as a season premiere, with the others later being "Treehouse of Horror XI", "Treehouse of Horror XII", "Treehouse of Horror XIII", "Treehouse of Horror XIV", and "Treehouse of Horror XV". It is also the first to use the normal credits font.
- Among the objects seen in the attic in "The Thing and I" are the Spine Melter 2000 from "Brother, Can You Spare Two Dimes?", Marge's painting of Ringo Starr from "Brush with Greatness", Bart's guitar from "The Otto Show", a book about The Be Sharps referencing "Homer's Barbershop Quartet", Lisa Lionheart dolls from "Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy", the Mary Worth phone from "Lady Bouvier's Lover", and golf clubs likely referencing "Scenes from the Class Struggle in Springfield". There is also a shirt saying "I Don Do It" which is presumably a misprint of "I Didn't Do It" from "Bart Gets Famous".
Citations[]
- The Hunchback of Notre Dame: Hugo, representing Quasimodo, is living up in the attic.
- Basket Case: Hugo wanting to be sewn back together.
- The King and I: The segment title, "The Thing and I", is a parody of the film and play, "The King and I".
- The Twilight Zone: "The Genesis Tub" is inspired by the 1962 Twilight Zone episode "The Little People", where astronauts stumble upon a tiny civilization on an asteroid.
- The Outer Limits: "The Genesis Tub" also closely resembles the two-part series premiere of the modern incarnation of "Outer Limits" titled "Sandkings" (parts I and II respectively) which first aired a year and a half prior to THOH VII. The main character "grows" his own mini-civilization which experiences rapid generational advances, and begins to build complex structures out of the sand. The main character becomes power-crazed with a "god complex".
- Claw Game: The way Homer is abducted is reminiscent of the claw game (giant claw picking him up) and its difficulty (dropping him first time around).
- Citizen Kane: The segment title, "Citizen Kang", is a parody of the 1941 film Citizen Kane.
- Scooby-Doo: When Homer unmasks the presidential candidates are Kang and Kodos in disguise, everyone has the same reaction as Scooby-Doo and his gang whenever they rip off the masks of the villains.
- Fish-Heads: Homer sings "Fish-Heads" by Barnes & Barnes while bringing a bucket full of fish heads to Hugo Simpson II.
- The Exorcist: On the first disc of The Complete Fourteen Season, an alternate opening for the episode can be accessed via a Easter egg in the episode menu for "Treehouse of Horror XIII". The scene in question sees Reverend Lovejoy trying to exorcise Lisa (who is possessed) who acts in a similar manner to Regan MacNeil before her head spins around 360 Degrees and barfs the title on the camera.
- Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope: Kang commissioning the construction of a giant cannon to be fired at "a moon that [Earth] hadn't even heard of before" may have been a reference to the Death Star and its attempt at firing on Yavin 4.
Goofs[]
The Thing and I[]
- When Lisa asks whether she has two brothers the bottom of Lisa's neck is a single line that overlaps her necklace. This is likely a layering error where her neck is meant to be put behind her necklace but was accidentally put in front of it instead.
- Despite already seeing the scar on the right side of Bart when he lifts his shirt, the family doesn't even find out Bart is the evil twin until hearing from Dr. Hibbert that Hugo's scar is on the wrong side.
The Genesis Tub[]
- The lines on the glasses of the Lisa's World version of Professor Frink repeatedly disappear.
- When Lisa is shrunken down and teleported into the cup, she had her slippers on, but after Bart won the science fair, discovering that she is now trapped in the cup and order the citizens to get her nice shoes, she is barefoot.
- When the mini civilization members first bow down to Lisa, a few of their hair colors change.
Citizen Kang[]
- In the crowd cheering "Clinton", Apu has a black jacket instead of a green one, while Sanjay has yellow skin and a blue shirt.
- In the same scene, Sanjay's green pants turn blue for a few frames.
- Also in that scene, in the top right hand corner, a person repeatedly disappears and reappears.
- In the shot after that when "Bob Dole" is about to speak, there is an empty space in the crowd between a few people that repeatedly is accidentally colored red.
- In that same shot, the clothes of many people towards the top of the crowd change color.
- The metal lines in the tanks containing the real candidates are in most shots at a height that covers their genitals. However, when the tanks are shown from the back, the metal lines appear significantly lower.
