Julie Deborah Kavner (born on September 7, 1950) in Los Angeles, California is an American actress. She grew up in a Jewish family in California and attended Beverly Hills High, which later she admitted she hated.

Kavner also went to San Diego State University. She later discovered her talent in comedy. She also starred in various shows, playing characters such as Dottie Ingels in This is My Life (1992), Cookie Katz in Bad Medicine (1985), Ronnie in Surrender (1987), and Gail in Hannah and Her Sisters (1986); she also voiced a female pigeon on Dr. Dolittle (1998) and Ma in The Lion King 1 ½ (2004). Kavner claims her distinctive voice is due to a bump on her vocal cords.

In 1971, Kavner got a day job at the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture.

She lived with producer and partner David Davis from 1976 until his death in 2022. She leads a virtually reclusive lifestyle off-camera, and in her contract, she states she should not have to provide the voice of Marge Simpson on-camera or have herself being filmed in the studio.

Kavner is most famous for playing Brenda Morgenstern on Rhoda (a spinoff of the 1970s series The Mary Tyler Moore Show) from 1974 to 1978. On The Simpsons, Kavner is the voice of Marge Simpson and her female family members, such as her cynical, sarcastic, cigarette-smoking twin sisters, Patty and Selma; her elderly mother, Jacqueline; her great-aunt Gladys from season four's "Selma's Choice", and the unnamed relative who tried to feed Marge as a baby during Marge's flashbacks of how planes and flying have traumatized her on season six's "Fear of Flying." The only character Kavner ever voiced who wasn't Marge or a member of Marge's family was a deadpan, nameless teacher who said, "Magnets. Always with the magnets" on the season three episode "Dog of Death", during the part where Principal Skinner shows off a model of a detention center he wants to build where the bad kids are held in place with magnets.
