Father Knows Worst |
|
Cultural references[]
- The title of this episode is a play on the title of the 1950s sitcom Father Knows Best.
- When Homer realizes that Marge is not worrying about the kids and therefore he has to, he says "Help me, Mayonnaise", downs a quart of it, and flexes his biceps. This alludes to Popeye the Sailor who utters a similar sentiment about spinach just before downing a can of the same, then seeing his muscle mass of his arms instantly increase.
- Anne of Cleves is the only one of King Henry VIII's six wives buried in Westminster Abbey. Her ghost wears the same outfit from her famed 1539 portrait by Hans Holbein the Younger now on public display at the Louvre in Paris, France. The ghost spoke with an English accent although the real Anne of Cleves did not learn English until her arrival in England at age 24 and never lost her thick German accent.
- Oscar Wilde's ghost floats in from outside through a stained-glass window. Oscar Wilde is not buried in Westminster Abbey, but in the Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris, France. In 1995 Oscar Wilde was commemorated with a stained-glass window at Poets' Corner in Westminster Abbey. The memorial is above the monument to Geoffrey Chaucer.
Trivia[]
- Moe lives in the back of Moe's in this episode. In "Days of Wine and D'oh'ses", Barney lives above Moe's Tavern.
- Homer throws a paper airplane to Bart with the name of the building to make for the Plywood sculpture assignment. After that Homer says "I did it! I helped my son! Helicopter Homer away!" and starts spinning like a helicopter. But in a few seconds he crashes into a wall and falls. After that he says "Black hawk down! Black hawk down!"
In this phrase he compares himself to UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter. It's also a reference to the movie Black Hawk Down. - In 2009, Dan Castellaneta won the Emmy for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance for playing Homer Simpson in this episode.
- The theme song at the end of the episode is sung instead of the usual tune.
- This is the second episode where Homer supports Bart at Springfield Elementary. The first was "Hungry, Hungry Homer", as well as the second episode where Homer pushes Bart to be president, with the first being "Grampa vs. Sexual Inadequacy".
- Janey, Terri, Sherri and Allison Taylor wear the same clothes as in "Lard of the Dance".
Goofs[]
- When Homer plans to help Bart and Lisa he eats mayonnaise (in a Popeye fashion) and previously he had strong taste buds so it would hurt incredibly.
- In one scene, Wendell is seen sitting and eating in the school canteen. In the next scene, we see him waiting for jelly.
- In class scene, we see Nelson sitting at the desk. The scene cuts and Willie brings Nelson to class instead of Ralph and left him standing in front of a blackboard. The scene cuts again and we see Nelson sitting at the desk again.
- Moe has never lived in his bar, he lived in a apartment. Not his bar. He could have to fix that as a health violation.
- One of the other "helicopter parents" is Ned Flanders (though he is only seen from behind). He shouldn't be there because his children go to a religious school. However, this is inconsistent, as thet were seen attending Springfield Elementary School in a few episodes (notably "Skinner's Sense of Snow")
- Oscar Wilde, in this episode has an English accent, when he was in fact Irish.
