Mr

Charles Montgomery Burns

The Burns family was a wealthy group of businessmen, and one of the wealthiest and most powerful families in Springfield's State.

History[]

The earliest known Burns was Elihu Burns, a delegate at the Constitutional Congress. He had three children with Agnes Brookside called Aethelred, Ferguson, and Bertram. The children Bertram Burns had with Jeannette Schicklgruber were Tiberius, Elspeth "Flossie", Mergatroid, and Agnes Montgomery Burns.[1] Mergatroid Burns' son with Marguerite Chesterton Wagstaff, and Charles Montgomery Burns' great-grandfather, was either called Bensonhurst "Zippy" Burns[1] or Franklin Jefferson Burns.[2] His children with Barbara "Babs" Kretizer were Rudolph "The Commodore", Cassandra, and Colonel Wainwright Montgomery Burns. The children Colonel Burns had with Evelyn Graycomb were Clifford, Doreena,[1][3] and Tyson Jones Eckleberg Burns.[1]

Colonel Burns once predicted that his descendants Ken and Rick Burns would document his history,[4] although according to one family tree, Ken Burns was descended from Colonel Burns' granduncle Tiberius. This tree mentioned that Tiberius had two children with Rosemarie Lippincott, Wilhelm and Edmund. Edmund's children with Lauren Vontavius Porter were called Christoph and Vernon. Christoph had a son with Elaine Van Landinham called Rupert, whose children with Claudia Dubois were called Carol and Manchester. Ken Burns was, according to the tree, the son of Manchester and Zelda Stewart.[1]

While some accounts maintained that Clifford Burns and Daphne Charles Burns were the parents of Charles Montgomery Burns,[1][3] Montgomery once referred to Colonel Burns as his father.[4]

Montgomery Burns was either the youngest of 11 siblings[5] or the older brother of George Burns.[6] While Montgomery stated his siblings died without heirs,[5] one account described writer J. Stewart Burns as the son of Archibald.[1] Other brothers and sisters depicted on family trees included Cornelia Burns, Zeph "Buddy" Burns, Cornelius Burns,[1][3] Sarah Drew Linscott, Ernest Burns, Dominique Burns, and Clifford "Cliff" Burns Jr.[1]

Montgomery Burns had a child out of wedlock with Lily Bancroft called Larry Burns.[7]

Other relatives buried in the Burns Family Mausoleum include Count Vlad Burns, Ebenezer Burns, Cordelia Burns, John Wilkes Burns, and Chastity Temperance Burns.[8]

Behind the Laughter[]

While there are no direct contradictions between the names of Burns family members seen in The Simpsons Uncensored Family Album and C. Montgomery Burns' Handbook of World Domination, Handbook of World Domination adds that Colonel Burns is not Montgomery Burns' father (as depicted in "The Color Yellow"), but his grandfather Wainwright. Handbook of World Domination also revises Wainwright's appearance to more closely resemble Colonel Burns in "The Color Yellow", which aired 19 years after the Family Album was released.

The version of Burns' family tree in Handbook of World Domination does not specify which Burns offspring were produced inside or outside of marriage (including Larry Burns), although The Simpsons Uncensored Family Album establishes that Clifford married Daphne, that Wainwright married Evelyn, and that Cornelia, Zeph, and Cornelius' father or fathers are unknown.

Because of the inconsistency of Montgomery Burns' age, Montgomery (in one-off gags),[8][11] Franklin,[2] and Elihu[1] were all mentioned as having been alive in colonial America.

In The Simpsons Uncensored Family Album, Cornelia married Sancho Hernandez, joining the Hernandez Family. However, this is omitted from Handbook of World Domination.
