Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh (月刊コミック電撃大王 Gekkan Komikku Dengeki Daiō ) is a Japanese shōnen manga magazine published by ASCII Media Works (formerly MediaWorks) under the Dengeki brand. The Shakugan no Shana manga series was published from the April 2005 issue, released on February 21, 2005, to the October 2011 issue, released on August 27, 2011.

The manga was first published in the April 2005 issue, released on February 21, 2005. Throughout its run, it featured as the magazine's cover illustration ten times. Some of the illustrations were later featured in the compiled volumes of the manga.
Promotions[]
There were numerous promotions were Shakugan no Shana figures were included with the magazine. Aside from those, there were also promotions for other goods.
February 2006 issue[]
In the February 2006 issue, a double-sided Shana dakimakura cover, one side illustrated by Sasakura, and the other by Noizi Itō, could be obtainable through a limited time mail order.[1]
April 2006 issue[]
In the April 2006 issue, a signed illustration reprint of the illustration used on the first manga volume cover could be obtainable through mail order.[2]
May 2006 issue[]
The May 2006 issue featured Shana as the cover illustration. Included with the magazine was a DVD called the Dengeki Daioh Specially Selected Anime Premium DVD (電撃大王特選アニメ プレミアムDVD ), which had the key visual of the first anime season, illustrated by Noizi Itō, as the cover. The DVD is over 50 minutes long and includes Shakugan no Shana Episode 01.[3]
June 2006 issue[]
The manga was one of several works to be included in the illustration pamphlet, Dengeki Daidama (電撃大玉 ).[4]
February 2007 issue[]
Shakugan no Shana was again included in an "Anime Premium DVD".[5]
March 2007 issue[]
Chapter 3 and 4 of Zoetrope were published in the March 2007 issue. Chapter 3 is a story by Yashichirō Takahashi with a few illustrations by Noizi Itō, whereas chapter 4 is a manga by Sasakura. Chapters 1 and 2 were previously published in Dengeki Hp.[6]
June 2007 issue[]
Obtainable from this issue via mail order was an alarm clock with recorded phrases by Shana (Rie Kugimiya).[7] The face of the clock features a new illustration by Sasakura. There are 6 recorded phrases:
- "Sh, shut up shut up shut up shut up shut up shut up! Even the sun is saying it! Hurry and wake up!!" (「う、うるさいうるさいうるさいうるさいうるさいうるさい! 朝だって言ってるの! 早く起きなさい!」 )
- "Wake up. It's time to train! We're going to practice using Power of Existence together." (「起きて。もう、鍛錬の時間! 存在の力を繰る練習、一緒にするわよ」 )
- "Hey you, I told you I'm hungry. Wake up idiooot! Can't you hearrr! Heeyyyy! ...Chut up chut up chut up chut up chut up chut up!!" (「ちょっとお前、お腹空いたって言ってるでしょ。 起きなさいよバーか! 聞こえてるのかー? おーい! ……うるちゃいうるちゃいうるちゃいうるちゃいうるちゃいうるちゃい!!」 )
- "Do your best... I wish you peerless fortune." (「がんばって……あなたに、天下無敵の幸運を」 )
- "Ascertain for yourself, and decide for yourself! If you don't, you can't devote everything to live. Stand up, for you're the one who has to walk." (自分で見極め、自分で決める! でないと、自分の全てを捧げて生きることなんてできない。立って、歩くのは自分なんだから」 )
- "Urgh... good morning Alastor, huh...? ...Kyaaaaaaaaaaa!!" (「う…ん…おはよアラストール ん?…。…きゃあああああああああああっ!!」 )
December 2007 issue[]
Included with the magazine was a booklet called the "Shakugan no Shana Second Saisoku Visual Book" (『灼眼のシャナII』 最速ビジュアルブック ).[8] It contains anime promo visuals for the second anime season as well as concept art and cast interviews. Through mail order, a microfiber towel featuring a new Shana illustration by Sasakura was also obtainable. The illustration was a "smiling version" of the illustration of Shana on the December 2007 cover.[8]
January 2008 issue[]
Included with this issue was a big poster of a new illustration of Shana, by Noizi Itō.[9]
February 2008 issue[]
Parts of the anime Shakugan no Shana II appeared on another "Anime Premium DVD".[10]
March 2008 issue[]
Included with this issue was an alternate dust jacket for the fourth manga volume. The illustration for the jacket, by Sasakura, features Shana in a kimono. Also, through mail order, two telephone cards could be obtained. The illustration on the first card was the illustration of Shana on the March 2008 issue cover, and the other was the same one as the alternate dust jacket.[11]
April 2008 issue[]
Included with this issue was a double-sided pencil board. One side has an illustration by Sasakura and the other side is an anime illustration.[12] The illustration by Sasakura is the one used on the cover of the fourth manga volume, while the anime illustration is a promo image for the second season.[13]
August 2008 issue[]
Another pencil board was included in this issue. The illustration used for it was the same one as the one on the August 2007 issue cover and featured within the fourth manga volume.[14]
June 2009 issue[]
To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the magazine, an art book featuring a gallery of Dengeki Daioh heroines illustrated by popular artists was included with this issue. The contribution to the art book by Noizi Itō was an illustration for Toradora!. Shana was one of several characters featured in E-ji Komatsu's illustration. Two illustrations for Shakugan no Shana were included; one by Yū Shīna, and the other by Miyama-Zero.[15] Yū Shīna had previously provided an illustration for GRIMOIRE.
November 2009 issue[]
Included with this issue was a towel called the Shakugan no Shana "Wipe your sweat with this!" (灼眼のシャナ これで汗を拭きなさい! ) towel. It was the first towel to be included with Dengeki Daioh, and is 70cm×24cm. The illustration used for the towel was an edited version of the big poster illustration for the January 2008 issue.[16]
October 2010 issue[]
Included with this issue was another pencil board which uses a new illustration by Noizi Itō.[17] The illustration features Shana with black hair, and a red hair version of the same illustration was used in Dengeki Bunko Magazine Volume 15.
September 2011 issue[]
Included with this issue was the Weiß Schwarz card, "Shana in Summer Clothes" (夏服のシャナ ).[18] The card features an illustration by Sasakura, which was also used for the ninth manga volume.
Flame Haze Outlaws and Other Information Pages[]
Dengeki Daioh also featured information pages about the Shakugan no Shana multimedia franchise called "Flame Haze Outlaws" (フレイムヘイズ外界宿 ). The Flame Haze Outlaws contained new franchise information as well as fan letters and drawings sent in to the magazine editors.
