"Two Monsters" (二人のバケモノ Futari no Bakemono?) is the one hundred and thirty-ninth chapter of the [[Seraph of the End: Vampire ReiThe a series, written by Takaya Kagami and illustrated by Yamato Yamamoto.

Synopsis[]

With a magic sigil between them, Yu and Shinoa sense but do not see one another. Shinoa returns to inform Mitsuba, Yoichi and Kimizuki that she beat the First. Her newfound power can be shared with the squad where demonic wings are able to be formed.

Ferid senses a presence so he, Guren, and Mahiru investigate. Concealing themselves in a shadowy dome, Shinoa squad do not reveal themselves. As Ferid wonders how Shinoa disappeared, he speaks loudly to Guren about two sinful key sources running away. Hearing that, Shinoa concludes not going along with Guren or Mahiru was a smart idea.

Yu and Mika regard a sinful key. As they plan to be captured by the vampires, they see memories that Shinoa was the one who absorbed most of the First's power. Yu and Mika focus on resurrecting everyone without any sacrifices.

The vampire progenitors arrive, where Saito, Urd, Lest Karr and Ky Luc are asked by Yu to help him.

Summary[]

Within a demon-like realm, Yu stands with his back to a magical barrier. Similarly, Shinoa stands back to back close by with a spell formation also behind her. Both Yu and Shinoa take notice of what is around them. Facing the line formation behind him, Yu regards the magic sigil and thinks of something on the other side of it. On her side, Shinoa considers how someone is there.[1]

As Yu and Shinoa reach out to touch the magic sigil they are both shocked by it. Regarding a plane expanse with the barrier indicated by the glimmers emitted from it, Shinoa thinks how odd. Shinoa focuses on how a third of Shikama Doji's body was stolen away by someone else.[2]

Turning her attention to the presence she can feel nearby, Shinoa wonders who was that. While Shinoa feels she will have to go through the memories of the parts of Shi she absorbed, there is something else in mind to do first.[3]

Closing her eyes in the sphere, Shinoa returns her consciousness to the physical world. As Mitsuba supports her, Yoichi and Kimizuki are also close to Shinoa. Seeing Shinoa awake, Yoichi and Mitsuba have questions on whether she is okay. Gathering herself, Shinoa then happily says for them to guess what. Shinoa announces that she beat the First all by herself.[4]

Demonstrating what this means in practice, Shinoa speaks for them to see. Saying for Shi to come out, Shinoa uses her finger to conjure her spectral scythe which Kimizuki views upfront. Since Shikama Doji tried to absorb her, Shinoa remarks how she absorbed him instead. Between the squad there is a mixture of surprise likely from Kimizuki, where Yoichi and Mitsuba are impressed where Shinoa is praised for her great work.[5]

Thoughtful of her condition, Kimizuki questions if Shinoa is sure that she is physically okay after that. Able to stand, Shinoa replies that surprisingly she feels entirely fine despite all that power she devoured. While Mitsuba observes her, Yoichi asks if Shinoa does not feel a thing. Denying feeling anything detrimental, Shinoa merrily comments that sadly she is still entirely full of vim and vigor.[6]

Delighted in saying it, Shinoa speaks apparently she is some sort of terrible monster that humans created, then adds that even Shi was horrified. Checking he understands it right, Yoichi wonders if Shinoa means the First was. Shinoa's contented smile is the confirming answer.[7]

As Mitsuba and Kimizuki look to one another, they feel they understand the situation. Kimizuki gets it, where he comments that Shinoa's personality is so warped it's monstrous. Knowing better, Mitsuba feels it is Shinoa's total lack of a bust that is monstrous. Hearing these comments, Shinoa raps Mitsuba and Kimizuki over their heads.[8]

Amiable, Mitsuba feels oh well, it is not like Shinoa is a monster to them so what does it matter. Mitsuba affectionately adds Shinoa is just their twisted, flat-chested snarker, that is all. Outwardly happy, Shinoa then speaks that she tried kind of hard for them all. Raising how about they try being nice to her, from the yell it would seem Shinoa had physical measures for the remarks.[9]

Addressing another subject, Kimizuki wonders if Shinoa learned anything. Raising how Shinoa took no small risk when she went and did that, Kimizuki questions if they are making a smart move trusting in her. Pausing before saying it, Kimizuki addresses Shinoa as captain. At once, Shinoa affirms yes, that they are making a smart move.[10]

Resorting to her powers to show them why, Shinoa says for them to look as she manifests two shadowy flat circles near to Mitsuba. Both Kimizuki and Yoichi are surprised as they register they are affected by Shinoa's new abilities, namely by having large demonic wings form at their backs. Also surprised, Mitsuba sees her own pair of demon wings.[11]

Manifesting further flat surfaces of shadow, Shinoa explains that when they let their demons go berserk they can awaken them to another level. Reconsidering what she just said, Shinoa assesses that it is up another five levels or so. Having possible drawbacks covered, Shinoa states for the squad to not worry about any poison from them though. Shinoa says she will take all of that for them.[12]

Perceiving something in the blank floating surface before her, Shinoa concentrates on what she is picking up. Interacting with the circles using her hands, Shinoa says to herself to wait, how a certain this is supposed to go like that. Displaying an inherent knowing of how to use this power, Shinoa is okay with using her body as the medium. Shinoa then finds she can route another few demons through everyone no problem.[13]

The channeling of power seems to lift Mitsuba and Kimizuki off their feet. Surprised at the experience, Mitsuba mentions for Shinoa to slow down. Remaining focused on what else she can see, Shinoa then expresses surprise. Watching her, Yoichi gathers something is amiss before Kimizuki asks Shinoa what is wrong. As noises are emitted from the shadowy circles, Shinoa looks closely at them.[14]

In a separate location in Shibuya atop some rubble stands Ferid. While he looks ahead, Guren is close by. Having noticed something, Ferid speaks to Guren to raise is it him, or is someone watching them. Ferid details he gets the feeling something off is happening.[15]

Apparently coming to detect it as well, Guren seemingly feels something is indeed amiss. Materializing, Mahiru certainly does as she looks in the direction that Guren is. Mahiru orders Guren to slash that way, now.[16]

Carrying out the directive, Guren at once prepares his cursed gear. From where she is situated, Shinoa seems to anticipate what is incoming. Calmly speaking to the squad, Shinoa mentions it is probably a good idea if they hide here for a minute. When Shinoa clarifies that enemies are coming, Mitsuba addresses the enemies part and questions who.[17]

Specifying that she will tell them what she learned after, Shinoa raises her hand and speaks for darkness which forms. Where it expands over her head, Shinoa causes a shadowy dome to form over herself along with Yoichi, Kimizuki, and Mitsuba. After Shinoa instructs everyone to step inside the darkness, Mitsuba and Kimizuki await to see what they are hiding from.[18]

The emission from Guren's strike reaches where they are which narrowly misses Shinoa squad inside the dome as it traverses across different locations. When Yoichi is surprised at this, Shinoa urges him to shush. Directing them to stay quiet, Shinoa orders everyone to hold their breath for a moment.[19]

An impact of a landing behind from where Shinoa is looking signals the arrival of one of the enemies. A satisfied appearing Ferid glances around, and sees nothing in the empty field. Commenting that is weird, Ferid notes aloud that no one is here. Ferid is stood close to Shinoa squad who remain quiet and invisible in the shadow protection.[20]

Ferid speaks there should be someone here, but there isn't. Continuing, Ferid says for Shinoa to tell him how did she disappear. Perturbed that Ferid knows it is her, Shinoa keeps silent as Yoichi does the same.[21]

Landing behind Ferid who remains looking ahead, Guren also checks round as Mahiru materializes to similarly examine the locale. Jabbing his sword into the ground, Guren speaks Mahiru's name who acts upon the known communication.[22]

Where Shinoa stands inside the shadow dome also invisible to them, Guren speaks for Mahiru to search the area. In response, Shinoa uses her finger to engage with the shadow circles while thinking for it to sync with the wavelength and return it. As a sensory ring from Guren's sword expands across the field it passes the shadow dome but does not reveal Shinoa squad's location due to Shinoa's timely response for it.[23]

Standing on top of the sword, Mahiru looks for what was sensed and is perplexed. Deeming it weird, Mahiru comments how there really is not anything here. Postulating that is inconvenient, Ferid speaks that they had not one but two sinful key sources up and run away. It was right when they have already collected four of the seven that they need, where Ferid produces the sinful keys in his keeping.[24]

Listening to their conversation inside the barrier, Shinoa's thoughts are of the sinful key sources mentioned. Shinoa wonders who do they mean by that. Concentrating on how there are two of them, Shinoa contemplates which two where Mitsuba along with Yoichi and Kimizuki stand nearby. Considering that not going along with the Lt. Colonel and her sister was a smart idea after all, Shinoa reasons that they need to keep control of their own fates.[25]

Seated on top of a building elsewhere, Yu regards a single sinful key in front of him. Wondering if Mika thinks they should hide these things, Yu specifies he means the key things the First had. Giving it some thought, Mika guesses so since the plan is for Yu to get captured after all.[26]

Committed to that plan, Yu adds and the vampires should not be able to kill them. Questioning if Yu is sure their circumstances have not changed, Mika points out the First is gone now. Taking that into account, Yu mentions but the vampires do not know what happened to Shikama Doji.[27]

On that, Mika asks what are the vampires even after now that Shikama Doji is gone. Bringing up how Mika was the one with them for years, Yu checks if he does not know anything. Judging it a good question, Mika recalls how the vampires did seem pretty interested in maintaining the peace.[28]

With Yu curious about the maintaining the peace that was mentioned, Mika phrases that the vampires were invested in making sure that the humans did not lose it. Wording it to help Yu understand, Mika adds the vampires did not want to make the world worse than it already is.[29]

When Mika guesses that is the situation, Yu sees it as the vampires wanted to stop people like them. Once that is said, Mika confirms exactly, that the vampires wanted to stop people like them who have totally lost it. That said, Mika asks if Yu noticed.[30]

Giving what Mika addresses some thought, Yu answers yes. Checking if Mika means the guy on the other side of that magic sigil, Yu also raises the one who devoured the majority of the First. Using his hand to visualize what he is to show, Yu states he got the memory of it from the First.[31]

The scenario of Shinoa jabbing her hand into Shikama Doji is viewed. For the cursed marks across her face and what she has done, Yu happily comments that Shinoa is super powerful. Yu says to Mika that even the First called Shinoa a monster. For this, Mika states he keeps telling Yu that humans are the scariest monsters of all. Mika adds the idea of humanity going berserk has terrified the vampires for a long time.[32]

Seeing how it can be true, Yu remarks that they can do anything they put their minds to, if it means saving their family. After Mika affirms that Yu really does go nuts, Yu is quick to respond to Mika that so does he.[33]

Not only that, Mika feels in Yu's case he has a super-scary girl who will come rescue him out of love where Shinoa is envisioned. Although Yu ponders a matter it is seemingly not to do with Shinoa. Instead, Yu resumes speaking to Mika to clarify if the vampires' goal is maintaining the status quo.[34]

Where Mika guesses that is probably the case, Yu has another question concerning whether Guren's goal is to sacrifice Mika to bring all of humanity back to life. On that, Mika thinks though it is possible the "Mika" he had in mind is Yu.[35]

Turning to themselves, Yu raises his and Mika's goal. Yu questions if their plan is essentially what the First's was. Yu uses his hand to manifest what Shikama Doji bequeathed him and presents the physical construct of the spell to resurrect Mikaela, along with a spell to hide earth from the eyes of paradise, and a spell to destroy paradise.[36]

Happy in saying it to Mika, Yu feels if they can find all three of those then they can bring all of humanity and all of the angels, including the First, back to life. Exceptionally pleased at this idea, Yu thinks the best part is he and Mika will do it in a way so that nobody has to be sacrificed, not even himself.[37]

Apparently checking what is feasible in terms of the spells, Mika says he is analyzing the First's memories right now but all that sounds like it is going to come with a steep price. Mika states he does not know if they can. If they did manage to pull it off, it is felt like they could end up being friends with everybody.[38]

Suddenly, Mika and Yu's attention is drawn to what they pick up on. Landing on the rooftop with them is Urd, along with Ky Luc, then Lest Karr, and Saito as well. Where Urd regards Yu and Mika with a serious expression, Ky Luc appears satisfied. Lest Karr is solemn, and Saito seems atypically wary.[39]

Concerning the vampire progenitors' arrival, Mika checks with Yu if he means be friends with all of them too. Asking bluntly, Saito questions where did the First go. Responding, Yu claims Shikama Doji was taken away, by humans who are also his and Mika's enemy.[40]

Mika shows surprise at Yu's misleading words to the vampires. Urd seems unconvinced. Lest Karr is the one to speak as he questions the veracity of Yu claiming the humans are his enemy, before he states that Yu is human too.[41]

As Urd continues to listen, Saito says how he assumes Yu means Guren Ichinose and Mahiru Hiragi. His smile serving as the confirmation of this (untrue) belief, Yu's stomach then loudly grumbles. Noting that, Yu declares that he would love to tell them all kinds of stuff, but he is too hungry to think. Yu decides to ask the vampire progenitors if they have anything to eat, much to Ky Luc's chagrin.[42]

Where Ky Luc is in fact exceptionally vexed, Yu is grasped and lifted off his feet. Both Mika and Yu appear uncertain at this action, as Ky Luc commands Yu to not get cocky while addressing him as human. Paying mind to a different matter, Urd speaks that he does not trust him. Urd questions how do they know Yu did not absorb the First into himself.[43]

Protesting the very idea, Yu is against Urd's accusation. Tapping to free himself from Ky Luc, as Yu lands on his feet he requests to not be lumped in with who he calls that walking gloom cloud. Elated, Yu then proclaims his goal is to save the whole world. His fists raised triumphantly in the air, Yu announces how he does mean the whole world, everybody. Even the First too, Yu states he will save them all.[44]

Lest Karr and Ky Luc's expressions have certainly softened, to the point they appear mortified. For his enthusiasm, Mika supports Yu by clapping. Saito is speechless, however Urd appears to consider the idea Yu presented.[45]

Continuing, Yu requests for all the vampires there to help him. For the sake of world peace, Yu asks if they have got it. Plus, Yu says for them to bring him food too.[46]

Chapter Notes[]

Cover Details[]

The feature image for chapter 139 shows Yu and Shinoa where story events are underway. Within a demon-based realm together, they each have their own distinct magic sigil at their backs. Each also turning to one another, it would transpire that Yu and Shinoa are unable to see each other due to what is a barrier. The chapter number and Two Monsters title is in the first panel, where the Seraph of the End logo and lettering details are in the adjacent one.

  • The scene of Yu and Shinoa in a sphere together was first seen in Chapter 136: "The Godtouched" where it appeared that they were in the same area but unable to notice one another. Yu entered this realm when he was being gifted the three spells by Shikama Doji, where it seemed Shinoa was already there as she assailed the First. This chapter clarifies that Yu and Shinoa were able to sense one another where there was no indication of that before, however they did know it was them. It was Yu's barrier that prevented him from knowing the presence on the other side was Shinoa. On Shinoa's part it appeared as though she could not make out the specific barrier, rather nothing at all visually appeared.
  • Seeing the barrier behind him, Yu calls it a magic sigil. While Yu is familiar with spell circles, he does not comment on the sigil itself rather focuses on what is on the other side. Neither Yu or Shinoa seemed aware that magic sigils, or perhaps this specific one, could generate a shock-like repelling power as they both reached out to touch it.
  • While Shinoa was cognizant of Shikama Doji siphoning off his power in Chapter 136 and took measures to prevent this, she neither knew where the First was transferring his power and could not prevent it. Shinoa can tell that a third of Shikama Doji's power was sent to someone else.
  • The three spells, to resurrect Mikaela, hide Earth from paradise, and destroy paradise along with the related memories may have constituted a third of Shikama Doji's power since that is what he passed to Yu.
  • Although she intended to search the First's memories to ascertain who gained the third of his power, since Shinoa was hiding her squad from Ferid, Guren, and Mahiru it may be the case that Yu and Mika learned who the other recipient of Shikama Doji's power was first.
  • Rather than check Shikama Doji's memories, Shinoa seemed to have judged it more important to return to her squad to share the news of his defeat.
  • Having supported Shinoa, the squad are seen again where their last appearance was in Chapter 134: "Reincarnation Rondo". Remaining on the grass, they would likely be unaware that Ferid had consumed Crowley before doing the same to Krul with Guren and Mahiru's help. They would also not know that Yu and Mika had returned to Shibuya to approach vampire progenitors for help with their own plan.
  • Sharing how she beat the First, Shinoa displays the evidence right away by conjuring her scythe. This is unlike Chapter 90: "Because of Mikaela" where Shinoa was unsure what would appear from her weapon after the First was sealed in Chapter 85: "The Guinea Pigs Gather".
  • While the speakers are unseen, based on their personalities it is likely Kimizuki speaking "You what?!" on page five, where Mitsuba or Yoichi could be speaking the other unseen speaker text.
  • Where she has indeed gained the First's power from consuming him, Shinoa feels fine after doing so.
  • For Shinoa's comment that she is some sort of terrible monster that humans created, this was touched upon in Chapter 97: "Sisters". Meant to contain Shikama Doji, here, Shinoa would defeat him and acquire his powers instead.
  • Perhaps seeing him as she absorbed him, Shinoa claimed Shikama Doji was horrified. Shikama Doji would indeed be wary of Shinoa as he expressed in Chapter 103: "The Sky Awaits Them Both" in which he even declined the chance to possess her. There would be no escape though, where the one Shikama Doji sought to possess for so long vanquished him and took his abilities.
  • When Yoichi wonders if Shinoa means that Shikama Doji was horrified by her, Mitsuba and Kimizuki after exchanging a glance decide to invent reasons as to why. This includes Shinoa's personality being monstrous, to her lack of a bust being the reason for Shikama Doji's horror.
  • Shinoa's power acquired from Shikama Doji is able to be shared with her squad. Apparently achieved using the shadow surfaces she can materialize, Shinoa can activate demonic traits within multiple others. Using her body to endure the demon power, and amending what she can see in the shadow screens is a part of the process. The available demons able to be drawn upon are Shikama Doji's powers, along with Kiseki-o, with Gekkouin, and Tenjiryū as well.
  • In drawing upon demonic power, fangs and horns are some of the characteristics seen up until now. This chapter reveals that serrated wings are another feature of embracing demon power. Across Chapter 13: "Reunion of Childhood Friends" and Chapter 14: "Everyone's a Sinner" Yu underwent a seraph and demon hybrid transformation, in which seraph powers were partially active and kept in what degree of check it could be by Asuramaru functioning as a demon at the time. This chapter 139 is an advancement solely on the demon front, in which it appears that four fully formed demon wings are able to be formed. Further, after fangs and horns, wings are next in the process of demon progression.
  • For the blank featureless shadowy circles, Shinoa interacts with them similar to a technological device, mixed with seeing something only she can see not too dissimilar to one engaging with their own invisible to others demon.
  • The screens resemble the computational-like ones Sika Madu used across Chapter 124: "An Elevator to Paradise", then Chapter 125: "Soft Serve with Father" and Chapter 126: "Purgatory and Paradise". More a darkness based power that can emulate the effects of machinery, Shinoa has Shikama Doji's innate power to engage with these.
  • It seems unintentional that Shinoa was able to detect others in the vicinity. When Shinoa was looking into the screens on page eleven it appears the case that Shinoa was viewing Ferid along with Guren and possibly Mahiru.
  • While Ferid voiced an intent to betray Guren and Mahiru in the previous Chapter 138: "Really for Real" yet claimed to be kidding after Mahiru assured him she had responses for that, Ferid would become stronger still upon activating Arcane as a weapon. Even with the power increase however, this chapter shows Ferid made no such move on his co-conspirators.
  • Although Guren stated they had to move on in the previous chapter, here his group have moved somewhat and yet they can afford to pause in their plan to investigate who they felt was watching them.
  • For what their power affords them, Ferid having absorbed multiple vampire nobles including Chess Belle and Horn Skuld with Crowley Eusford and Krul Tepes as well, who may also have the enhanced power of Arcane active can detect that Shinoa is observing them using Shikama Doji's power. Ferid could sense this sooner yet after pointing it out it seemed Guren, and more certainly Mahiru also had the insight to be able to note where the observer was.
  • In Chapter 137: "The Queen's Time" it was shown that Guren's Cursed Gear sword could be broken as it was by Krul. This chapter shows that Guren's sword is repaired and intact. As for how, in Chapter 135: "Front Seats to the End" Urd displayed the capability of reforming his own sword through magical-based means by using his blood. This chapter clarifies that should the physical weapon part of the cursed gear broken it too can simply be reforged, likely through the demonic power it is tied to.
  • Where Ferid along with Guren and Mahiru can sense her shadow based detection powers, Shinoa also seems to gather that she has been noticed watching others. Shinoa tells her squad that enemies are coming where she likely would have sensed that Guren and Mahiru were with Ferid, who she frames as said enemies.
  • A shadowy dome could be formed by Shinoa to keep her and the squad invisible from others even close up. Even when Shinoa was initially sensed, the dome can be updated on the spot to blend in with detection based spells and give off the appearance that no one is there.
  • While Ferid had the feeling someone was monitoring them, he was able to pick up that it was Shinoa. He may have been able to sense it was specifically her, or Ferid inferred it was Shinoa since he was observing their location in Chapter 134: "Reincarnation Rondo" and may have assumed she had not moved from that spot.
  • Even with Ferid knowing she was involved, Shinoa kept quiet in an indication of her commitment to not be drawn into his, Guren, and Mahiru's plot.
  • An expanding wave from Guren's cursed gear sword seems capable of revealing those concealed by spell-based measures, were it not for Shinoa's specific spell to be able to counteract that.
  • Speaking aloud of two sinful key sources, Ferid may have relied on Shinoa squad still being nearby to hear this. Additionally, he also takes measures to display that he has four sinful keys. Revealing how he regards them, and what he bears is something that benefits Shinoa squad. Directly, it factored into Shinoa's decision to remain detached from what Guren and Mahiru are doing.
  • For sinful keys:
    • Saito was seen holding two in Chapter 68: "Saviors" that he acquired through some unknown means.
    • One was emitted from the youth containing the Sixth Trumpet in Chapter 67: "The Door into Puberty" which was taken by Ferid in Chapter 68.
    • Guren took the sinful key from Mirai Kimizuki after he murdered her in Chapter 84: "Nativity of a Princess".
    • Also in chapter 84, Guren along with Mahiru and Noya used three sinful keys to seal the First who was possessing Shinoa's body. These were the sinful key Guren took from Mirai, along with the two he gained from Saito after double-crossing him after his betrayal of them.
    • With the three keys Guren had, these are held by Ferid who has his key from the Sixth trumpet hence the current four for that faction.
    • Ferid seems to perhaps accurately think that two sinful keys are within Shinoa squad. Where Shinoa appears unsure it does not necessarily rule her out as she may have had seraph based experiments performed on her without her knowledge. Far more likely is that Yoichi and Kimizuki each bear a sinful key given their backgrounds and particularly their contiguity to black demon cursed gear.
    • A new sinful key is revealed in this chapter, the one Yu and Mika see. This sinful key was likely left by Shikama Doji and was possibly the one he caught far back in Earth's prehistory as viewed in Chapter 130: "The Light Which Remains".
    • If there are two sinful keys within Shinoa squad of which there is scarce reason to doubt, then all the seven sinful keys are accounted for.
    • Ferid with his increased strength from absorbing vampires, but particularly when armed with four sinful keys could allow him to challenge the four vampire progenitors who may assist Yu and Mika to acquire that key. If Ferid can find Shinoa squad the other two are his for the taking. Actively interested in them, Ferid on paper currently has the strongest case for acquiring the seven sinful keys.
  • For his time in Sanguinem and with the vampires, it is shown that Mika gathered that they were interested in maintaining the peace. In Chapter 22 during a meeting of the progenitor council the attendants discussed how human experiments on the Seraph of the End had been dealt with to avoid further destruction of the Earth where their actions however violent are done for stability.
  • When it was said that vampires are against humans losing it, Yu sees it that they would want to stop people like him and Mika. Similarly, Mika also speaks of himself as someone who has lost it.
  • While a demon, Mika does not refer to himself as one, neither as a vampire even when he was one when among their company. Mika uses people terms when referring to himself.
  • Yu can access memories of the First where he sees Shinoa overcoming him to learn she was the one who gained his strength. In witnessing Shinoa carry this out, where she gained most of Shikama Doji's power, Yu is enthusiastic in commenting that she is super powerful.
  • The last time Yu saw Shinoa was in Chapter 120: "The Price of Appetite" where he left the squad to hide out around Mt. Fuji and delve into memories of the past with Mika. In this chapter 139, Yu would learn Shinoa was the one on the other side of the magic sigil and of course see her in the memory when she was overpowering Shikama Doji.
  • Mika speaks of Shinoa as a super-scary girl who will come and rescue Yu out of love.
  • Yu does not respond to the love that Shinoa was mentioned to have for him, rather returns to Mika's conversation concerning the vampires.
  • When Yu asks if Guren's goal involves sacrificing Mika to resurrect humanity this is based on the assumption that Mika is the First's son which was raised in Chapter 114: "Everyone's Goals". Yu seems to think that Guren meant Mika himself had to be sacrificed, although Guren may have been giving a choice between resurrecting all of humanity and keep Mika as a demon. In any case, the past Mikaela aspect that is felt to be within Mika may have been required for the resurrection event. Again, the assumption is Mika is connected to Mikaela, however in Chapter 129: "The First Vampire" and Chapter 130 memories seen in the past caused Yu to feel that he was Mikaela. In chapter 130 it was shown in past memories that Mikaela formed a plan with the homunculus named Yu for them to switch places. The homunculi imitated Mikaela's body, where Mikaela's spirit hid inside a human child apparently connected to Yu.
  • For their conversation, Yu seems used to them thinking that Mika is Mikaela, yet here soon after speaks of himself as being connected to Mikaela, something Yu is happy with since he is not keen on sacrificial based terms being used around Mika.
  • In analyzing the First's memories, what is seen by Mika is not shown however he seems to think it might not be practical to use the resurrection spell.
  • The scene of the vampire progenitors joining Mika and Yu on the building top was shown in Chapter 136: "The Godtouched" where this chapter reveals that Yu and Mika were able to discuss aspects of their plan before their arrival. Of notable significance is the reveal of the sinful key that Yu and Mika have now.
  • For what he can sense, Saito gathers that Shikama Doji has disappeared but does not know where he has gone.
  • The end of a demon was seen with Asuramaru in Chapter 118: "I Hear Voices" where he disappeared into light, where like here with Shikama Doji it is not known what happens to a demon that passes on after their energy is drained.
  • Asked what happened, Yu misleads the vampires in saying that Shikama Doji was taken by humans who are his and Mika's enemy. The truth is Shikama Doji was absorbed by Yu and Shinoa, yet Yu says this as his and Mika's plan involves asking the vampire progenitors for help in gaining the sinful keys from Guren for their own resurrection plan as they discussed in Chapter 132: "Battle to The First".
  • Lest Karr seems to be under the impression that Yu would not have humans as enemies since he is human too. This may indicate the limits of Lest Karr's knowledge of humans and all their splintered factions. Furthermore, Lest Karr should not be too surprised with the lack of co-operation amongst species since vampires have their own groups as well, he himself came into conflict with Krul, he has seen Saito act against fellow progenitors too.
  • Saito assumes it was Guren and Mahiru who took Shikama Doji away, however they were unconnected. It was a sensible guess since Saito relied on Guren's assistance against the First in Chapter 84: "Nativity of a Princess" and he may have known they had the means to challenge the First as was done in Chapter 85: "The Guinea Pigs Gather". Regardless, Saito was wrong about it being Guren and Mahiru when it was Shinoa was overcame Shikama Doji. Starting in Chapter 133: "Maidens in Love" then continuing in Chapter 134: "Reincarnation Rondo" and Chapter 135: "Front Seats to the End", Shinoa succeeded in draining the First's power in Chapter 136.
    • Ironically, Saito would have a hand in Shikama Doji's demise, the prison he kept the First in would hinder his capabilities of repelling attacks. Principally, when Saito ordered the vampire progenitors to stop Yu from reaching the First in Chapter 132, Shikama Doji would use his powers to assist Yu even at the cost of his own life.
  • This is another instance of Ky Luc becoming uncharacteristically angry. In Chapter 105: "Saito and Urd", he took particular issue with Saito feigning weakness. Here, Ky Luc is somewhat furious at the audacity of Yu merrily asking them for food.
  • Urd was right not to trust Yu in addressing if he did not absorb the First into himself. Although Urd does not get the spoken truth, he is correct since Yu did in-fact absorb a third of Shikama Doji's power, where Shinoa has the rest.
  • Where Urd is not the vampire who comes to mind to know about absorbing the power of others, it is possible Urd can sense Shikama Doji's power within Yu hence his question.
  • Yu is against being associated with the First, since recently he gathered the vampire progenitors are actually against him. Requesting they not lump him in with Shikama Doji, in actuality Yu has the same goal of resurrecting Mikaela and also intends to help the First too.
  • From the sound effect, Yu lightly taps Ky Luc's hand to free himself from his grasp while continuing to speak of his plan and not be bothered further.
  • Yu can finally make his and Mika's request for help that they planned to do in Chapter 132. At that point, Ky Luc assaulted them in anticipation of a wider attack. Yu and Mika then resorted to reach Shikama Doji instead after he called to them. Successfully reaching his location, Yu and Mika can ask the vampire progenitors for help now, having also gained the First's power. Had the vampire progenitors heard Yu and Mika out right away, and neither threatened them when resurrecting Mikaela was brought up, it is possible that Yu would not have been driven to reach the First and so gain his power.
