Oh dear. Did you really think you could do this alone? Take down forty super-villains? Talk about delusions of grandeur. But your friends. People who would hesitate. That's a different matter entirely. My name is Mysterio, Master of Illusions. My thanks on behalf of the criminal community.
~ Mysterio

Mysterio is the overarching antagonist of Old Man Logan. As with his mainstream counterpart, he is a supervillain that specializes in illusions and other special effects. However, this version on Earth-807128 is much worse: in addition to his sadism and arrogance being further amplified, he also enthralled Wolverine to slaughter his fellow X-Men, paving the way for the villains to overthrow the heroes, and sending Logan into a deep depression, effectively "killing" his superhero persona for fifty years.

The character was created by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Fifty years ago prior to the story's events, Mysterio tricks Logan into slaughtering his teammates inside the X-Mansion by causing them to look, smell, and feel like a wave of various supervillains. He also orchestrates other events like fake distress calls from various superhero organizations and Jubilee’s fake death.
  • Upon Wolverine seemingly killing the last of the villains (which has Jubilee, made to appear like Bullseye, pleading for Wolverine to stop) and then realizing in horror what was going on, Mysterio reveals himself and sadistically taunts him over what he has done.
  • Because of Wolverine’s rampage, the villains have an easier time taking over the United States later on. This, combined with his teammates’ death, send Logan into a deep depression and allow himself to be run over by a train later, “killing” the Wolverine persona.
  • He ends up getting away with all of his crimes, making him a Karma Houdini.
  • While the Red Skull and Hulk have both done worse, Mysterio still stands out through his personal villainy, lower resources, and higher onscreen kill count.
  • Unlike his mainstream counterpart, Mysterio is played dead seriously with absolutely no comedic moments, no redeeming qualities, and no tragic backstory. In addition, this version is even more sadistic and condescending, as he heartlessly and remorsefully taunts Logan on his broken state of mind.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He lacks sufficient characterization, as he only appears onscreen in two panels of the comic and has three lines of dialogue. Given his sadistic personality and the lasting impact it leaves on Wolverine, this is a minor prevention.
