“ | Get your hands off me! I hate flour, I hate bread, and I hate bakers, you utter and complete FRUITCAKE! | „ |
~ Piella Bakewell's tirade towards Wallace after she gets hit by the flour bag, foiling her first attempt to murder him. |
“ | They can't just drop me. I'm light as a feather! I'm the Bake-O-Lite Girl! | „ |
~ Piella's catchphrase as well as her last words. |
Piella Bakewell is the main antagonist of the 2008 stop-motion animated short film A Matter of Loaf and Death, the fifth installment of the Wallace & Gromit franchise, as well as the overarching antagonist of its 2021 spinoff mobile title, Wallace & Gromit: The Big Fix Up.
She was originally an actress known for her role as the Bake-O-Lite Girl for bread commercials but was fired for her weight increasing. This led to her becoming The Cereal Killer and murdering 12 bakers, as well as attempting to kill Wallace to complete her "Baker's Dozen".
She was voiced by Sally Lindsay.
Her Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- Her reasoning for becoming The Cereal Killer is incredibly petty, as when she got too fat (which got her fired), she ended up snapping and hating bakers, which drove her to kill 12 bakers, one in a gruesome manner by killing him with his rolling pin.
- While most of her kills were offscreen, the fact she has her victim's pictures in her diary is enough to not be offscreen villainy.
- While she has a dog named Fluffles, she abused her so much to the point she ended up biting her.
- She never cared for her victims when pretending to fall in love with them, as she did to do her "Baker's Dozen".
- She attempted to kill Wallace with a bomb that she hid in a fake cake, which is a uniquely gruesome act, and she left Fluffles to die when she betrayed her along with Wallace and Gromit as well.
- While she at one point was in love with a baker named Bernard Grubb, her relationship with him isn't explored enough to be really genuine, as we don't know enough about their relationship to make such a conclusion.
- One could argue she fails to Preston or Trumper, but she has less resources thanks to her being just a serial killer with only a rolling pin and no technology and a unique crime of serial murder (which the two didn't do).
- She, unlike them (and other villains in the franchise in general, like Feathers McGraw and Victor Quartermaine), has no redeeming qualities, and is more heinous than Victor and Feathers.
- While she herself has some comedy, this is before she reveals her true nature, and after that, she doesn't have any comedic moments.
- She, unlike them (and other villains in the franchise in general, like Feathers McGraw and Victor Quartermaine), has no redeeming qualities, and is more heinous than Victor and Feathers.
What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]
- While she has no actual redeeming qualities, her death has ultimately a bit of sympathetic pathos, with her death via being eaten by crocodiles mourned by both Wallace and Fluffles (who, ironically, she abused), with Wallace imagining her as an angel from Heaven (while she definitely isn't), even if such mourning from them is very brief.
Trivia[]
- She is the 2nd villain from Aardman Animations to be Near Pure Evil, the first being Preston.
- Originally, Piella was Pure Evil for her lack of redeeming qualities and surpassing the Heinous Standards with her death not being all that sympathetic. However, the fact that her death was played for sympathy meant that Piella was approved as Near Pure Evil (albeit Wholly Debased).
