Vanessa Hudgens is a Filipino-American actress and singer. She provides the voice of Sunny Starscout in the Netflix animated film My Little Pony: A New Generation.
Hudgens first teased at her involvement in the film on Instagram on July 2, 2019.[1] She was later officially announced as a cast member on June 30, 2021.[2] Hudgens has stated in interviews that she was immediately drawn to the role of Sunny due to growing up with Generation 1 toys.[3]
Outside My Little Pony, Hudgens is best known for portraying Gabriella Montez in Disney's High School Musical film series, and she is an accomplished singer with two studio albums released through Hollywood Records.
In other films, Hudgens made her feature film debut in the 2003 film Thirteen. Following that, she has starred in Bandslam, Beastly, Sucker Punch, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, Spring Breakers, The Princess Switch and its sequel, Second Act, The Knight Before Christmas, and Bad Boys for Life. In 2021, Hudgens will star in Lin-Manuel Miranda's directorial debut Tick, Tick... Boom!
In television, Hudgens' first acting role was in the 2002 sitcom Still Standing. She has since had guest roles on Robbery Homicide Division, The Brothers García, Drake & Josh, and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. Hudgens' breakout role was as Gabriella Montez in the 2006 musical television film High School Musical, a role she would reprise in High School Musical 2 in 2007 and the theatrically-released High School Musical 3: Senior Year in 2008. She also starred in television adaptations of the musicals Grease and Rent.
In other voiceover, Hudgens lent her voice to a season 4 episode of Robot Chicken.
