Dust Man's Stage is a stage that appeared in Mega Man 4 and Mega Man III that has Dust Man as the boss.

Appearances[]

Mega Man 4[]

Dust Man's Stage takes place in a scrap disposal depot, where many conveyor belts can be seen moving scrap and trash in the background. The start of the stage has some nasty ambushes, especially from enemies that leap out of bottomless pits. The stage does have a couple of unique gimmicks: the first is a series of red blocks, which are segmented into 4 pieces that first appear from the bottom of the screen to form into a 2x2 block, which can be used for platforming. They are necessary to cross a long bed of spikes in one room. The second gimmick is a giant machine moving an entire row of presses down and up slowly. At first they won't hurt you, but some of the last presses are low enough that they will crush the player instantly. Many presses also have walls of junk blocks inside that go down and up with the presses. They must be shot so the player can create a hole to pass through, without getting squashed. Attacks like the fully-charged buster and Ring Boomerang can destroy multiple blocks at once.

Valuable pickups to look out for:

  • NESEddie Eddie: Shows up inbetween the segmented red block room and the press room. The only thing in this room is Eddie, who will randomly provide a big health energy, a big weapon energy, a 1-UP, or an E-Tank. If the player doesn't like what they get and doesn't take it, they can re-enter the room to have Eddie provide the player another valuable pickup.

Mega Man III[]

Dust Man's Stage in the GB demake once again takes place in a scrap disposal depot, though without all the animated backgrounds, and is widely considered the hardest stage in the game. This is primarily because of the many Shield Attackers ambushing the player in uncomfortable spots throughout the stage, and the sheer amount of pixel-perfect jumps the stage has. One notorious jump has a long bed of spikes and the player must put Rush Coil right in the center of the spikes so they can reach the other side. The giant press machine returns from its NES counterpart and is in the middle of the stage, moving big presses up and down. The player has to proceed by shooting through junk blocks while also making sure they don't get crushed by the lower presses. Any death after the presses will respawn the player at the start of the press room. Beating this stage will additionally reward the player with Rush Jet.

Valuable pickups to look out for:

  • GB1UP 1-UP: After the Gachappon on a higher up platform. It can either be obtained by using Rush Coil on a platform right below it, or by busting down a breakable wall on the right side using Drill Bomb and getting it safely from the right. If you try to get it with Rush Coil, be VERY careful as it is easy to accidentally respawn the Gachappon, who will harass the player trying to set up Rush Coil or leave the room after getting the pickup from the left.

Trivia[]

  • In Mega Man 4, if the player uses Drill Bomb against the Taketentos while jumping along the red blocks, it can actually screw with their spawning-in animation and make them abruptly disappear. With this in mind, do not use Drill Bomb in this section.
