MegaMan NT Warrior: Axess,[1], also stylized as MegaMan NT Warrior AXESS [2] and known as Rockman EXE Axess (ロックマンエグゼAXESS Rokkuman Eguze Akusesu) in Japan, is the second season in the MegaMan NT Warrior anime series. It borrows story elements from Mega Man Battle Network 3 and 4 and uses NetNavis from Mega Man Network Transmission, but has its own original story. It was followed by Rockman EXE Stream. Axess is the last season of the anime that was dubbed into English.
Synopsis[]
This is the official English series description.[3]
This exciting anime-adventure series continues the ever-more exciting saga of sixth grader Lan, whose NetNavi and alter ego is the blue-suited, virus-fighting, virtual superhero named MegaMan. The series opens as Lan and MegaMan are at SciLab awaiting the results of a new experiment in cyber technology called “CrossFusion” that would make the fusion of a NetNavi and NetOp possible in a special pocket of space within the human world called a “Dimensional Area.” Just then, a powerful new NetCrime organization, Nebula, in cooperation with the evil Darkloid ShadeMan, invades SciLab. Lan & MegaMan, without a moment’s hesitation, test out CrossFusion themselves to protect SciLab from the giant viruses that have invaded the human world !
In this cyber powered, futuristic world, infiltrated by high tech computer crimes, the newly appointed NetSaver Lan and his NetNavi, MegaMan, lead the way to protect the world. With the new power of DoubleSoul with which MegaMan can now merge and combine strengths with other NetNavis during NetBattle, and their new CrossFusion ability, Lan and MegaMan unite to expose the darkness within the merging digital and human universe.
History[]
In Japan, Axess started airing 6 months after the first season's final episode. The schedule has shifted from TV Tokyo's Monday evening time slot to Saturday mornings at 8:30AM, where it will remain for all later seasons. Toy sponsorship has also been changed, with production going from Bandai to Takara.
In the United States, Axess is considered as the 3rd season of the MegaMan NT Warrior anime[1]. Kids' WB aired a sneak peek of the dub (the complete first episode) on November 22, 2004 but the rest did not air until the following year[4]. Like the previous series, the show's schedule continually swapped between Kids' WB's Saturday morning and weekday afternoon time slots. The series also had a flash game on the website called Axess Air[5].
For a limited time, Capcom USA made the English dub (except episode 1) of the anime available to watch to commemorate the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection in 2023. For this release, MegaMan NT Warrior: Axess is considered as Season 2.[6]
Plot[]
Taking place a few months after MegaMan NT Warrior, Lan Hikari, MegaMan, and the rest of their friends battle against Dr. Regal and the mysterious Nebula organization, in addition to combating the threat of the Dark Chips as well as ShadeMan and his Darkloids, all while SciLab attempts to find a way to create Cross Fusion. They are initially unsuccessful until they manage to capture a dimensional area converter from Nebula, and Lan and MegaMan at first are the only ones who can Cross Fuse, though later Chaud Blaze and ProtoMan gain the ability to Cross Fuse as well and through this, Lan and Chaud, alongside their respective NetNavis fight the Darkloids in both the cyber world and the real world. MegaMan also gains the ability to use Double Soul, which lets MegaMan combine with another Navi in unison and gaining their powers in the process.
ShadeMan and the Darkloids serve are the primary antagonists for the first half of Axess, with Dr. Regal and Nebula acting behind the scenes, ultimately leading up to the latter becoming the main antagonists for the second half of Axess after betraying and disposing of ShadeMan while taking full control of the Darkloids in the process. After Dr. Regal's defeat and Nebula's destruction at the end of the season, both Bass and Ms. Yuri allude to a looming threat from outer space, setting the stage and background for Stream.

Music[]
With no carryover from the previous series, a completely new soundtrack was made for Axess. Jun'ichi "IGAO" Igarashi takes the role of Music Composition from Katsumi Horii.
Opening Theme:
- "Futatsu no Mirai" by Michihiro Kuroda
Ending Theme:
MegaMan NT Warrior: Axess:
NT Warrior edits out nearly the entirety of the IGAO's original Japanese soundtrack (written as Jyunichi "IGAO" Igarashi in the ending credits) . Some remnants remain such as one that plays in one of the last scenes of ShadeMan's Ambition. The new soundtrack was composed and arranged by Gordon McGhie and David Iris.
- "Main Title Theme Song", Lyrics, Composition, and Music Arrangement by Gordon McGhie and David Iris.
- "Ending Theme Song", Composition and Music Arrangement by Gordon McGhie and David Iris.
NT Warrior English Dub[]
The MegaMan NT Warrior: Axess English dub is produced by ShoPro Entertainment (credited later as VIZ Media, LLC after the companies merged) and recorded at Ocean Studios. Many of the cast from the original came back for this season. The dub still suffers many of the notorious traits from the last season's dub. Like the previous season, many non-Asian dubs are based on MegaMan NT Warrior: Axess.
The series aired similarly to the first season: sporadically and out-of-order, running from February 28 through September 10, 2005, before abruptly disappearing after 35 episodes, ending on episode 22 (aired out of order). The series returned three months later, airing another ten episodes (having skipped six episodes throughout its run) and concluding the broadcasted season at 45 episodes.
The NT Warrior version of the episode, SpoutMan's New Hero!, is most notable for not airing in the United States. And since Axess did not have a home release, this episode was never available in the US. This episode has only ever been seen in international broadcasts like Canada, or in other language dub broadcasts such as in Poland. In 2023, this episode was made available globally on Capcom USA’s YouTube, finally being made viewable in the US.
Home media[]
Despite having aired to completion, MegaMan NT Warrior: Axess never received any form of home media releases. In Japan, Rockman EXE Axess was released on 17 DVDs between 2004-2005. It also had VCD releases in Hong Kong and Taiwan by Muse Communications. In Hong Kong, only episode 1-26 were released on home media.
Shogakugan books[]
In Japan, Shogakugan put out a picture book based on the series. Despite being called Volume 1, no other books were published.
