Sabatea was a city in Shem,[5][1] presumed to be located near the border with Stygia.[1] located on the southwestern fringes of the Southern Desert and just north of the River Styx,[2] southeast of the Shemite city Shushan and northeast of the Stygian city of Sekan.[6]
Another map located it south-east of Zamboula and way off east the River Styx and the border with Stygia.[3]
The city had an evil reputation,[1][7] and was known for the Tomes of Sabatea, books of black magic.[8] The Sabateans, worshippers of the Golden Peacock, were considered devil-worshippers.[5] It was also there that the Wizards of the Black Ring had their headquarters,[1] and Sabateans were part of the cult of the Hidden Ones, or Yezmites.[5]
