Poco Path

Poco Path is a short path leading from Cabo Poco in the south to South Province (Area One) to the north. The Inlet Grotto is located here.

Catching a Pokémon

Nemona is waiting a short distance to the north along the dirt path. She introduces you to Poco Path, "the path that leads to adventure", and explains that things are different here than in town. Wild Pokémon can be seen out and about; get too close to one, and you'll have to battle. Catching a Pokémon requires Poké Balls, so she gives you a bundle of five. Just then, a wild Lechonk wandering nearby notices the two of you, and you are automatically drawn into battle.

A new Adventure Guide tip, "Catching Pokémon", appears. Wild Pokémon can be caught by pressing the X Button to throw a Poké Ball. When a Pokémon is difficult to catch, try dealing damage to it before throwing a Poké Ball for a better chance of success.

Catch Lechonk, and the battle ends with a new entry added to your Pokédex app. Nemona congratulates you and gives you another ten Poké Balls. She sends you off to try battling and catching more wild Pokémon, and suggests meeting at the nearby lighthouse when you're ready.

A new Adventure Guide tip, "Battling against Wild Pokémon", appears. Wild Pokémon can be found in tall grass, caves, and elsewhere. Run into one, and a battle begins. It is also possible to trigger a battle by facing a wild Pokémon and pressing the ZR Button to throw a Poké Ball at it. This tactic makes it easier to reach Pokémon in trees or flying in the sky. Pressing the ZL Button locks onto a Pokémon, revealing its species (if previously encountered), Level, and whether or not that species has been caught. Pressing the B Button allows you to crouch and sneak up on an unsuspecting Pokémon.

Trainer Tips!
Fletchling, the Tiny Robin Pokémon

Trainers who chose Sprigatito or Quaxly as their first partner Pokémon should be sure to catch a Fletchling on the way through South Province (Area One). A Flying-type Pokémon, it has an advantage against common Bug and Grass Pokémon. As it grows, its Normal type changes to Fire. Fire Pokémon can be hard to find, so it makes a great alternative to Fuecoco!

A Mysterious Cry

When you approach the lighthouse, Nemona catches up with you. She checks in on your Pokémon-catching progress, when suddenly a mysterious cry rings out! Nemona wonders if it might be a Pokémon, and suggests the two of you find the source. She cautions you against visiting an unsafe cave nearby, then leaves you to begin the search.

Approach the broken section of rope fence nearby, and you quickly notice a large dragon-like Pokémon on the beach that has drawn the attention of a pair of Houndour. The dragon musters enough energy to cry out, scaring the two Pokémon away but causing you to lose your footing as well. After the Rotom Phone slows your fall, approach the dragon to find that it's too weak to move. Try offering it the Sandwich that Mom had made, and it perks right up! It cries out in a flash of light, and seems to be feeling better. It moves toward the entrance to the Inlet Grotto, where it waits for you to follow.

Inlet Grotto

Inlet Grotto

The Inlet Grotto is a cave system located under Poco Path. It leads from the beach to the hills high above.

First area

Follow the dragon into the cave, and you hear Nemona calling out to you a moment later. She's at the cave exit high above, and is relieved to see that you're not hurt. Grab the nearby Potion, then follow the dragon past some glowing moss on the wall to find the path blocked by a boulder. It breaks the rock into pieces, scaring off the two Houndour hiding behind it.

Second area

A Houndoom stands on a cliff to the left. Pick up the Poké Ball beneath it, and the Potion next to a nearby rock pillar. The dragon continues along, and is soon confronted by a whole pack of Houndour! It easily scares them off with a roar before continuing into a tunnel filled with more glowing moss. At its end, it pulverizes another rock to reach the next chamber.

Third area

Just then, Nemona alerts you to something approaching from behind: it's the Houndoom, and it's not happy with how you've treated the Houndour! The Level 40 Pokémon draws you into battle, but your young Pokémon immediately retreats back to its Poké Ball. Houndoom lets out a roar, causing the dragon to realize the danger and step in to defend you. Houndoom responds by summoning a large number of Houndour, who quickly surround the both of you. The dragon is prepared to fight, but decides to escape with you instead. It carries you as it jumps up the cliffside to Nemona's position, out of reach of the Pokémon below.

A Weakened State

Seeing that you are unhurt, the dragon begins moving toward the nearby lighthouse, but seems to lose its energy in a flash of light. Nemona wonders if it used up all of its power, but the dragon wakes up a moment later. Nemona then exchanges phone numbers with you, so that you can keep in contact if you're ever separated again. She also gives you a copy of TM032, a Technical Machine containing the move Swift. Technical Machines, or TMs, are single-use items that teach a new move to a compatible Pokémon. Nemona then suggests resting for a moment at the nearby lighthouse.

Poco Path Lighthouse

When the three of you approach the lighthouse, you find a young man peering into its window. He notices the dragon right away, and speaks to it like the two have met before. Nemona recognizes the student as Arven, the son of the Pokémon Professor, SadaS/TuroV. Arven is more interested in how the dragon finds itself here, and why it looks this way. Nemona explains what has happened, and Arven reveals the dragon's name, KoraidonS/MiraidonV. He says that no average Trainer can hope to control it, and offers to test your worthiness in battle.

VS Arven, Battle 1

Arven relents, saying that if you really intend to take the dragon off his hands, then you'll need its Poké Ball. He hands over Koraidon's Poké BallS/Miraidon's Poké BallV; Nemona questions why he has has it, but Arven refuses to answer and runs off to the north.

Nemona then invites you to the top of the lighthouse, so approach the ladder to automatically climb up. Speak to her at the top, and she directs your attention to Mesagoza, a large city to the north. Naranja AcademyS/Uva AcademyV can even be seen from here; it's the big building with the Poké Ball on it! She points out the surrounding biomes, each with countless Pokémon to catch, and officially welcomes you to the Paldea region. Reaching the school is a bit of a hike from here, so she suggests visiting Los Platos along the way.

Road to Los Platos

The path from the lighthouse to Los Platos is a short one. A lake can be found near the path, and a river runs eastward to the ocean; both areas are great places to find Water-type Pokémon. Keep and eye out for new Pokémon and battle a Trainer or two on the way into town.

Los Platos is a small settlment in the middle of South Province (Area One), to the northwest of the Poco Path lighthouse.

Pokémon Center

When you enter Los Platos, Nemona calls out to you. She introduces you to the Pokémon Center building, then leaves the explanation of its services to the woman behind the counter.

  • The red counter in the middle is the Pokémon Center, where Trainers can have their injured Pokémon returned to full health, free of charge.
  • The blue counter to the right is the Poké Mart, where Trainers can buy useful items like Potions and Poké Balls. They accept payment in money or League Points. One LP is worth $1.
  • The green counter to the left holds the Technical Machine Machine, or TM Machine for short. It can be used to craft TMs for teaching new moves. It accepts payment only in League Points, and the user must provide the necessary materials dropped by wild Pokémon.

Nemona explains how handy League Points are, and even transfers 5,000 of her extra points to you. She then hands you a good supply of TM Materials to get you started. After that, she goes on to explain the Union Circle, a round, yellow-colored area at the end of the building. In this part of any Pokémon Center, Trainers may connect with others to find traveling companions. Finally, she explains that pressing the R Button sends the lead Pokémon out of its Poké Ball to travel alongside its Trainer. While traveling this way, the Pokémon may pick up items or even battle on its own! A new Adventure Guide tip appears, explaining the Let's Go! feature and Auto Battles.

Sugar-N-Ice

A food cart can be found a short distance up the road. This is Sugar-N-Ice, part of a chain that sells ice cream cones. In Paldea, food items provide Meal Powers when consumed. These effects may include bonuses like boosting the catch rate, increasing the amount of experience earned after battle, or increasing the odds of a wild Pokémon dropping an item. Each food item triggers three different Meal Powers at once. Each Meal Power lasts for 30 minutes and only affects one Pokémon type at a time. The food item is consumed upon purchase.

Road to Mesagoza

Take either the west or north exit from Los Platos and proceed along the path to Mesagoza. Continue exploring the area until the paths converge at the Mesagoza (South) Pokémon Center.

Mesagoza (South) Pokémon Center

Pokémon League representative

At the Pokémon Center outside Mesagoza's southern gate, you find a well-dressed man standing near the TM Machine counter. He is a Pokémon League representative, and offers you a challenge: defeat four Trainers in South Province (Area One) to receive an item reward. Speak to him again after doing so, and he rewards you with TM082 (Thunder Wave).

The Price of Admission

The south gate to Mesagoza is shut tight. When you approach, Nemona hurries to catch up to you. Since is excited to see how much your Pokémon have grown, and challenges you to another battle!

VS Nemona, Battle 2

Once her first partner Pokémon is defeated, she sends out the newest addition to her team. Before you can make a move, she decides to play her ace in the hole. She uses a crystal-encrusted Poké Ball to make her Pawmi shine like gemstones, complete with a decorative jewel that resembles a light bulb. After a Pokémon undergoes Terastallization, any move used that matches its Tera Type gains a power boost. A Terastallized Pokémon's Tera Type is indicated by the jewel on its head. Pawmi's light bulb signifies an Electric Tera Type, so its Thunder Shock will deal more damage than normal!

Sprigatito If the player chose Sprigatito:

Fuecoco If the player chose Fuecoco:

Quaxly If the player chose Quaxly:

Defeated, Pawmi's jewel shatters and the battle ends. Nemona is impressed that you defeated a Terastallized Pokémon, but suddenly realizes that you can't Terastallize your own Pokémon yet and promises to take care of it. She gives you three Revives, then directs you to the gate leading into Mesagoza. She explains that there are many hills and stairways in the city, and will take a moment to rest before joining you.
