The Honda Civic Type R (EK9) is part of the sixth generation of the Honda Civic. It is often known simply as the Civic, the Type R or the EK9.

The Honda Civic is a line of cars produced by Honda since 1972. The sixth generation of the Civic ran from 1995 to 2000. The Civic Type R was introduced in 1997, the first generation of the Type R, known as the EK9, was based on the sixth generation of the Civic and ran until 2000, when the seventh generation was released.

- Daiki Ninomiya owns a Sunlight Yellow Honda Civic Type R EK9, which he uses as a student of the Todo School.
- The Todo School's demonstration car is a Spoon Sports Tuned Sunlight Yellow Honda Civic Type R EK9. It is driven by ex student Tomoyuki Tachi in the second round of battles between Project D and the Todo School.
- A White Honda Civic Type R EK9 is seen with the Todo School in Fourth Stage - Act 3.
- A Championship White EK9 can be seen battling against a green Eunos Roadster in the end credits of the final episode.

Cars can be upgraded with different parts, both internal and external, to make the car perform better. The early games offer the player a choice between several courses of upgrades that they would like their car to have, whereas later games give a wider range of options, with players being able to pick what upgrades they want whenever they want them.
