WARNING! |
Yeon (이연), also known by her codename of Kasha and the The King of the Underworld, was the oldest daughter of Ijincheon, the Executioner of the Silver Forest of the Four Swordsmen and her mother, as well as the older sister of Hero Killer.
She was a member of the Hero Clan and operated under her codename as a member of Black Hand, the intelligence agency and direct executioners of the clan. Yeon was the Sixth Finger of The Fingers, the six strongest members of the Black Hand, after killing the previous one.
After an unknown fall out with the Hero Clan, she was shadowed and assassinated by Black Hand in Operation Dusk, in which all information regarding her was almost completely wiped from the clan's data banks.
Yeon's death was ultimately the reason and the catalyst for Ihwa's drive in becoming a Villain and seeking vengeance against the clan as well as her wanting to become stronger as a Gift user, inspiring her to never give up no matter the situation. Her death is also the reason why her father, Ijincheon, resurfaced again after learning about her death from Yushin.
Yeon was first shown in a brief flashback of Ihwa's memories of her death during the District 17 Assault Arc and only made appearances in flashbacks, but she was formally introduced in the Assault on Castle Gray Arc, where the events of Operation Dusk were shown to Ihwa through the power of Chain's Ring and Dalia Mendoza, the Punisher's fractured memories of her first encounter with Yeon.
Appearance[]
Yeon was an incredibly beautiful young woman with silver-white hair and eyelashes, and red eyes that glowed intensely when using her EST like Ihwa. She kept her hair tied in a ponytail, a look she had since childhood and had a vertical scar across her face.
As for clothing she wore a black formal business suit with pants with a white coat that looked like a lab coat whenever she was on assignments.
Personality[]
Yeon saw the world with a very bleak mindset, seeing nothing but blood and red amongst even the stars themselves.[1] but her overall personality isn't fully known aside from Ihwa's memories of her showing to be a kind and warm person despite her gruesome work as an assassin.
However, it appears that she had a warrior's mentality that she likely inherited from her father as she wasn't afraid of showing her younger sister some aspects of her work as she sometimes came home covered in blood and even asked Ihwa to avenge her if she wanted. While her exact reasons for joining the Hero Clan aren't fully known she wanted to create a world where fragile children like Ihwa could thrive. [2]
History[]
Yeon was born into the Age of Heroes and Villains to her father Ijincheon, a member of the Four Swordsmen and her mother as their oldest daughter before Ihwa came along. The family's life together isn't fully known but it's assumed that Yeon was trained in combat and how to be a warrior by her father during her childhood.
However, an event occurred that broke the family apart in which Ijincheon decided to choose their mother over his daughters and abandoned Yeon and a baby Ihwa. The reasons behind this have yet to be revealed.[3]
Yeon's life afterwards isn't fully unknown, but she raised Ihwa for most of her childhood as her guardian and sole relative in District 17's Dust City.
Now older, Yeon joined the Hero Clan as a young adult and operated under the codename of "Kasha". She became the youngest person ever to become a member of the Black Hand, the clan's personal assassination branch and special operations division that was responsible for taking care of the clan's "dirty work".[4]
She would also become a member of The Fingers, the leaders and strongest members of the Black Hand, as their Sixth Finger after she killed the previous one. This position was intended for those who were the strongest of the Fingers.
Yeon was confronted by the First Finger, Dalia Mendoza, the Punisher in a field of reeds. The Punisher picked a fight with her in what appeared to be an attempt to establish the hierarchy as her "senior". The two clashed with their respective weapons and Gifts, but Yeon showed the Punisher how her abilities earned her the title as the Sixth.[5]
Yeon was assigned to multiple missions, many of which were incredibly dangerous for long periods of time as she disappeared for weeks, but she always made sure to come home to Ihwa. [6] During this period, others in her line of work started to refer to her as The King of the Underworld. Occasionally, she worked with the other Fingers in various missions and at one point, warned Mendoza to be careful with "Number 7" during one of their missions.[7]
At another point, Yeon once asked Ihwa to promise to avenge her if she ever desired it rather than live a normal life as she alluded to threats to her own life. Eventually, Yeon had a falling out with the clan during Operation Dusk. Aware that Black Hand were slowly but surely tracking her down, Yeon spent one final time together with Ihwa as they went to a local park to watch the stars during a late night. After taking Ihwa back to their apartment, Yeon confronted them who had gathered many of their members and mocked them for it. She immediately started killing the assassins as she fought against them, but she was heavily injured by Nanzu who subdued her with his Gift.
Before they could finish her off, Yushin arrived and intervened as he fought them off with Yeon escaping in the confusion[8]. Mustering the last of her strength to come home, Ihwa found her sister as Yeon died in her arms before Yushin appeared at their door [9].
Story[]
The Torch Arc[]
During Mind Shocker's attempt to control Ihwa's mind, the villain probe deep into her subconscious. After founding Ihwa's source of mental strength that was guarded by spikes, Mind Shocker was suddenly attacked by a monstrous version of Yeon within her mindscape after ripping out one of the spikes that caused a violent backlash which injured the villain. Strangely enough, Ihwa wasn't aware of how she beat the villain and just assumed her subconscious punched him.[10]
Nostra City Arc[]
Assault on Castle Gray Arc[]
Having failed to capture Chain and kill Hero Killer, Dalia Mendoza has a meeting with Nanzu, who had appeared to assassinate Yeon years ago, amongst a field of reeds. The two assassins become confused while trying to remember the events of Operation Dusk and Yeon's demise with the Punisher believing her to be dead, but Nanzu remembering the operation to have failed for the second time in its history.
Hero Clan's Civil War Arc[]
Yeon's warning about Number 7 is remembered by Dalia during the assassin's first meeting with the new Sixth Finger.
