Jeremy Bernstein (제레미 번스타인), mostly known by his codename Chaos, is a retired member of the Hero Clan and the "sidekick" of Hero Killer. He is a former member of the clan's Special Forces, the clan's most powerful elites gathered for their combatant prowess as he was once the strongest hero in Dust City for District 17 before his powers started declining with age and overwork. He is also the older twin brother of Rebecca Bernstein, also known as Highnoon, a former member of the clan and the boyfriend of Yuna Song, a doctor who also left the clan to be with him.
Before becoming the ace hero of Dust City, Chaos was a well-known fighter for the clan as he once fought in the waning days of the Great War against the Villains of Nera over a decade ago. During the war, he once had an encounter with the Smiling Man, Engen while hiding from the villain and saved a young girl named Kirine from her life as a child soldier.
Chaos was initially introduced in the District 17 Assault Arc as an antagonist and enemy to Hero Killer as he tracked her down after she killed the hero Jade, the Mad Dog. He and his partner/sidekick Viper tried to take her down, but he becomes an indirect ally to her and strucks up a deal with the young villain to spare the lives of Claymore and his former disciple in exchange for information regarding her sister's death.
He makes a brief appearance at the start of the Hero Candidate Arc where he wishes Hero Killer good luck in taking down the clan and returns as an ally in The Torch Arc and Hero Clan's Civil War Arc.

Chaos is ocularly heterochromatic, with his right eye being blue and his left eye being green and has orange, messy hair, and wears casual clothing. He has eyes that many would consider maniacal and scary, due to the small size of his irises, but they get more natural whenever getting serious.
He also has a fit and muscular physique with numerous scars across his body from years of fights and battles. And while young in appearance he is quite old having been born over a century ago.
Personality[]
Although he can be serious and calm when needed, Chaos is a rather fun and carefree man that often jokes around and always found time to grin regardless of the situation, but he is not childish like Rachel. Despite how he may seem corrupt and villain-like, he is with the idea of justice, with his only obstacle being its destruction. However, after wearing his hero suit, he becomes lawful. He believes in certain moral values, namely not abusing children in any way or endangering civilians.
History[]

Jeremy's entire early life isn't fully known but he was mostly likely born after the Chaotic Era. In his childhood, Jeremy and his younger twin sister, Rebecca, once struggled to survive together.[1]
Not much else is currently known about the twins' life but they were living in Avaarin, the famed warrior nation and settlement of powerful warriors at one point in their youth. They formed a close friendship with a boy named Saulcai, the student of The Knight Commander of Avaarin, as they got to know the talented warrior with Rebecca and him eventually becoming lovers.
Jeremy, now an adult, joined an organization called the Hero Clan led by a man called the Skysword who had built the clan around his acquisition of multiple districts and fame as a warrior who had defeated the Elder, Yushin.
In a matter of time, the clan that fought in the name of justice clashed with the second king of Nera, Engen and his forces in what historians would call the War of the Reeds or the Great War which redefine the terms of Heroes and Villains.
Chaos sees the Smiling Man during the Great War.
During the war, he met and became acquainted with Heavy Smoker, another member of the clan as they fought together in multiple battles.
Jeremy once witnessed Engen, the second king of Nera and leader of the Nera Villains, fight on the frontlines while he hid from the dangerous villain in one such battle.[2]
Jeremy Breaks Down.
As the war continued to rage on, Jeremy slowly broke down as his views and belief in his "Justice" became bleak. He reached his breaking point in one such mission's aftermath after he and Heavy Smoker had killed child soldiers of a Villain organization called the Coalition.

Smoker, annoyed at Jeremy's naiveté, lectures his partner that this is war and that even the dead bodies of the child soldiers can still shoot a gun that can kill them if they're shot.
Jeremy then spots a surviving child soldier rush at them to stab Smoker from behind, but he pushes him out of the way and ends up getting stabbed by the young girl. Smoker knocks her out and gets ready to finish her off, but Jeremy fires his gun into the air to stop him. Smoker, annoyed further, tells his partner that their fight isn't between "Good" and "Evil".
That they're all "Evil". And the clan just happens to be the stronger "Evil" which was more preferrable than the previous Chaotic Era and was willing to numb himself to it if it meant rising to the top of the machine known as the Hero Clan.

Jeremy asks him even if it means closing his eyes and ears to the clan's actions while killing children in the process. Smoker answers, "Yes, he is and will continue to do so. If it means a ticket to the top, then there's nothing you can't do."
He tells Jeremy to become a "cog" in the machine known as the Hero Clan. And if he can't, then he might as well go crazy while he holds and hugs the young girl that attacked them.[3]
Having saved her life, Jeremy took in the young girl who was named Kirine and became responsible for her. He recruited her into the clan against Smoker's advice and looked out for her while also defending her from bullies that looked down on and questioned her purpose due to her past as a child soldier for Villains.
Jeremy would also make her his student as he trained and honed her ability in sharpshooting. One day, after finishing up training, Jeremy assigned her a mission to get rid of an executive from a new gang of villains.
Kirine wanting to prove her worth to those who questioned her new loyalties and even more in Jeremy's eyes, decided to do more than just kill the executive but also wiped out the entire gang but she had unknowingly killed an undercover agent from The Legion. Things didn't really change much after the mission, but the Hero Clan claimed victory at the end of the war.
Jeremy decided to take the blame for Kirine's mistake and was reprimanded in her stead. Jeremy told her not to say anything as she and him were now strangers. It's unknown what the clan did to him for punishment. [4] As the clan claimed victory, Nera ceased to exist with the Skysword ordering the banning of the word - "Nera".

Years passed as the modern era had come. Jeremy, now known by his codename of "Chaos" met with Kirine after her hero christening ceremony on the day she had become an official hero for the Hero Clan. The two embraced each other in a happy reunion and spent the day together. Kirine had noticed the new changes in him as he smiled more and was less apathic.
Chaos would then ask his former disciple for her help in his purge of the clan's undesirables and corruption, but she declined his offer under the guise of her not wanting to go back her to her old life but was actually afraid to fail him again. Chaos, understanding her decision, leaves her in peace but Kirine would come to regret her choice.
Chaos meets Viper.
In the next ten years, Chaos was assigned to District 17: Dust City under the clan's 17th Division, which was led by his old comrade Heavy Smoker. At some point in that period, Smoker assigned him a sidekick by the name of Viper, a young Gift user. While Chaos wondered about Viper's abilities and if he could even last a one year, the young man confidently assured the veteran that he could for far longer than ten. With a smirk, Chaos welcomed Viper and shakes his hand.
The two heroes grew close as they fought together in numerous missions. In one such mission while fighting against a gang of Villains, Viper injured himself while protecting Chaos from an attack and it was in that mission that the pair discovered their signature move, the Phase Shot.
Afterwards, Chaos would give Viper his gloves so he could better protect his hands with. Viper thanked his partner but made sure to call no take backs.

One day while out shopping, Chaos stopped by a candy store and met Yuna Song, a human and doctor of the Hero Clan's 17th Division. The two would get to know each other through their shared love of sweets and work in the clan. Yuna, eventually, started to develop romantic feelings for him.
She confessed her feelings to Chaos as she could tell that he was suffering from his inability to live by his ideals as a hero and wanted to give him something to live for and came back to at the end of his journey.[5] The two officially started seeing each other. Yuna would get to know Highnoon, Chaos younger twin sister, whenever she visited Dust City.

District 17 Assault Arc[]
Chaos was tasked to investigate and track down the culprit responsible for Jade's death, which, he would then meet Hero Killer.
At first Chaos tries to kill her, thinking she is like the other villains, but later on, came to find interest in her and even assisted in helping her taking down the Hero Clan, in-exchange, he wanted her to spare the lives of those who he deems to be sticking to true-heroism.

Chaos eventually retires from being a hero after surviving his fight with Engen in order to prevent him from killing the remaining heroes in Dust City, as he was heavily injured in the aftermath, he wasn't able to fight any longer, and decided to live by his own rules and a normal life with Yuna before leaving Dust City, he gave Hero Killer his final words as the passcode to access the database of the Hero's Clan and made his final monologue as in the future he would meet the Hero Killer once more, but not as her enemy, but as her ally, he would then end his monologue by praising, hoping, and encouraging her to fulfill his will is to take down Hero's Clan and surpass everyone, completely concluding that his mission of taking down the corrupted system ends here and is passed down to Hero Killer like a torch.

In the midst of the Battle for The Torch, Chaos carries his sister, Highnoon after she was beaten up and knocked out by Hero Killer.

Etymology[]
- The name Jeremy is an English form of the Hebrew name Jeremiah, which means "Yahweh will exalt" or "God will raise up."
- The surname Bernstein is of Ashkenazi Jewish origin. It is a German surname that translates to "amber" (a fossilized tree resin)
