Rendo is a treasure hunter and classified villain. He travels across the world in search of treasures and a variety of rare objects like Shards with his fellow treasure hunters.
He would meet Hero Killer and become acquainted with her after they teamed up to survive the Forest of Immortals together during the Invasion of Castle Gray.
Rendo was first seen in The Torch Arc but was officially introduced in Assault on Castle Gray Arc, where he and his colleagues decided to join the Villains in the Invasion of Castle Gray led by the infamous Smiling Man, Engen as they wanted to take advantage of the invasion to look for rare treasures in the snow-covered lands.
Appearance[]
Rendo is a tall, muscled man with dark olive eyes and brown hair. He has long earlobes, like an ancient Buddhist monk, which are pierced with earrings on both sides.
For clothing, he wears a blue robe that appears to be a hanbok with white pants and black taesahye looking shoes that mimic real-world Korea from antiquity. He carries two enormous sized guard less blades on his back that he wields in battle.
Personality[]
Rendo comes off as an insightful but a quite talkative man that chooses his words carefully. He isn’t a particularly horrific nor a sadistic person despite being classified as a Villain, in his own words, he is a seeker of rarities in his occupation of a treasure hunter. He greatly understands the value of an item is it at its most valuable if it is small but can still fetch a high price.
Aside from his treasure hunter's mindset, Rendo is a level-headed man which was evident when he first met Hero Killer, who was clearly agitated and itching for any excuse to pick a fight but remained relatively calm when they fought together. He isn't arrogant enough not to ask for help from others and considers his past mistakes as harsh lessons to learn from.
History[]
A treasure hunter by trade, Rendo travels across the known world from district to district in search of treasure like rare items, Shards, and other valuables that he collects and sells to those that want to buy. However, he ran into some trouble and was classified as a Villain by the Hero Clan because of the incident.
At one point, Rendo and a group of colleagues ventured together to Castle Gray in search of treasures. Rendo and co. would cross the haunting Forest of Immortals back when it was smaller while the mist was severe and heavy. Rendo was very confident as they didn’t need to spend too much time in the forest due to their impressive skills, advancing fast through the horrific living forest.
But something unexpected appeared before them. It was drawn to Rendo and his colleagues’ respective EST. These creatures were the Human-Faced Plants as he would later find out from the locals. The monsters overwhelmed the treasure hunters and quickly killed everyone with the exception of Rendo, who had decided to retreat from the venture.[1]
Story[]
The Torch Arc[]
Rendo is seen amongst the Villains that answered Engen, the Smiling Man's call to attack the Hero Clan in their transportation of The Torch.
Assault on Castle Gray Arc[]
Rendo would return to make another attempt in searching for Castle Gray's treasures as he participates in the Smiling Man's Invasion of Castle Gray. Rendo remembered his prior experience in the forest, which was now even bigger than it was years ago
As the Villains begin making their way across the Forest of Immortals, Rendo meets Hero Killer who was just finishing off the last of some villain bounty hunters who had targeted her. He expressed slight surprised at her cruelty towards them after catching her thrown axe but Hero Killer replies that she has no reason to be kind to those that were trying to kill her and asks Rendo what he wants, like a fight perhaps, but he declines her assumption. Rendo tells Hero Killer that he was hoping to stick together with her for the time being as he got separated from his companions due to the forest's thick mist.
Rendo then explains to Hero Killer that the wooden and trees monsters that she defeated earlier are just the start of the dangers and that the Forest of Immortals is much ominous than that. He goes on that the forest is home to unfathomably sinister creatures that become much more dangerous the further a person goes in, even for someone as strong as her.
But Hero Killer rebuffs his warnings and sees the dangers as the perfect chance to test her newfound level to see if she could fight against those bastards if she went all out. She suddenly stomps on the ground that creates a powerful shockwave, stating that she was on her way to find out.
Hero Killer asks Rendo who he is to decide if she's good enough or not while he takes out his swords and gets ready to face the monsters that she just challenged. He tells the young villain that she shouldn't be foolish when boasting of strength as it is the last thing that she should do within these woods and briefly explains who he is as well as the story of his prior venture into the Forest of Immortals that ended in near total annihilation years ago as he ended up being the sole survivor after they encountered the monsters of the forest that were drawn to their EST.
Hero Killer asks him what it was, and Rendo replies that he later learned what the locals called them, the Human-Faced Plants, as one of them stares at them with an eerie grin. The creature attacks the two, and they clash against the monster with Rendo hacking off its arm while Hero Killer unleashes her all against the grinning monstrosity.
The treasure hunter tries to convince the villain to take the chance of the monster being wounded to escape but she refuses and tells Rendo that he can leave if he wants to, but Rendo stays to assist in killing the monster.
The two succeed in killing it but are already exhausted from the fight. However, before they can even catch their breaths, more Human-Faced Plants] show up to attack.
The two then retreat with the monsters chasing after them. They fend off the monsters' attacks until one of them unleashes a tendril that spreads overgrown spores in the ground that start withering all the nearby trees and plants around them. Rendo unleashes his swordsmanship, Moonblade, to cut to them apart, but the Human-Faced Plants quickly surround them.
The monsters get ready to devour the two as they open their respective mouths, but they stop and turn to see a woman leap in over and grabs one of them, she instantly kills the monster with a single powerful kick while ripping off its teeth and proceeds to do the same to the others.
The woman is revealed to be Hekate, the personal assistant of Victoria, who greets them and offers to guide them through the forest. The remaining plants attack her but only succeed in annoying her, which ends in her finishing off the last one.[2]
Rendo sheathes his swords and accepts the former villain's help; he asks Hero Kiler what she wants to do, but she replies that she doesn't care while showing indifference.
The treasure hunter then becomes a bystander as he watches the two women fiercely fight each other so Hero Killer could find a proper clue to the earlier questions she has on her prowess.[3]
After they finish their first round, Rendo watches in pure amazement at Hero Killer's choice of food after she cooks the Human-Faced Plants' deadly spores as they take a break, while thinking anyone would be screwed they ate that.[4]
Later on, the two make their way to the start of the Smiling Man's fight with Raxfer Sinclair as other Villains like Needles, SJ, a Orange-Haired Man, and many other infamous individuals gather to witness the battle.
Into the night of after the fight between Hero Killer and Puppeteer as well as the Mad Elder's accepting Engen's challenge, Rendo watches Puppeteer collect the dead bodies of soldiers with her controlled corpses as he calls it a disturbingly grotesque sight but is once again amazed at Hero Killer's hunger as she cooks and eats an entire boar. She wonders what's wrong with that, stating that one must eat when they got to eat.
Thinking that since there's so much game around, it'd be a waste not to while she stares at some unlucky animals. Rendo agrees with the sentiment after seeing the abundance of wild animals and plants that feed the local population. Not mention a bit of the local spoils of war to keep all the Villains excited with some getting into quarrels over some.
Hero Killer wonders why he's not interested in that, which confuses Rendo for a moment. He explains that he's not interested in simple trinkets but only Shards and properly introduces himself as he states his name once again while handing her a drink. He tries to take his spoils of war immediately before returning home.
Hero Killer asks him why, and he tells how many she does think will survive out the fools that are fighting over their spoils. He goes on to explain that an item is most valuable if it is small but can fetch a high price.
Liking his views, Hero Killer empties out her pockets of her own spoils, which shock the treasure hunter. Rendo tells the young villain that he mainly tagged along with her because he took a personal interest in her as he saw that she was different from the other villains that want to be a part of the new legend that's about to written or are aiming to claim the few pieces of gold and silver in the process like him.
He can tell that she doesn't care the slightest in conquering Castle Gray and sees her pick fights with other villains as it's the battle itself that she's mostly interested in. He wonders what awaits her at the end of the strife, then.
Hero Killer answers that she has enemies to kill, quite a lot of them, in fact. And one is here in Castle Gray somewhere. She then brandishes a sword created from her Gift and asks Rendo if he'd like to join him but the treasure hunter declines her threatening question as he doesn't want to risk his life on something that won't yield anything in return.
He tells Hero Killer that once the invasion is over, they should meet up back in the mainland, perhaps there'll be something that they could help one another with but Hero Killer doubts it.[5]
Days later, Rendo is seen fighting against the armies of Castle Gray before Reagan Sinclair's Project Yggdrasil starts spreading throughout Castle Gray and the main keep as it kills the residents.
