Kikoru Shinomiya is the tritagonist in the manga and anime series, Kaiju No. 8. She is a member of the Defense Force and the daughter of the organization's director, Isao Shinomiya, and a former captain of the same organization, Hikari Shinomiya. She is a former third division member before being promoted to the first division after the loss of the Tachikawa Base.
She is voiced by Fairouz Ai (who also voiced Power from Chainsaw Man, Jolyne Cujoh from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, and Ariane from Skeleton Knight in Another World) in Japanese and by Abigail Blythe in English.
Appearance[]
Kikoru is a blond late-teen girl of below-average height. She has her hair usually tied in two pigtails with black ribbons on both sides (which were also used by her mother) and her eyes are a green color. As a Defence Force member, she is in the female uniform which is a grey-colored robe. Despite her size, she carries an enormous heavy axe with the number 03 and AX-0012 written on the blade along with a few hexagon patterns nearby. There are also more hexagon holes and two rectangular holes.

Kikoru harbors great pride in her status as the daughter of the director and in her combat capabilities that she tends to show off to those she views below her abilities without regard. She tends to be a jerk, especially when she first met Kafka, telling him to move his car, but chose it to toss it aside manually with her strength (granted by her suit). However, her character exudes a strong and fearless exterior, but deep down she is genuinely concerned about the well-being of her comrades. Despite her tough exterior, she is a compassionate and faithful girl who will go to great lengths to protect her allies and ensure their safety. Her initial arrogance and mocking behavior toward Kafka eventually fades away after she was rescued by him.
Relationship[]
- Kafka Hibino: One of the earliest displays of her arrogance was toward Kafka, whom she mocked the man, especially for his age. However, as soon as her life was protected by Kafka in his kaiju she began to acknowledge him and even accepted his favor by concealing his identity as the Kaiju Number 8.
Powers and Abilities[]
Kikoru's immense speed
- Axemanship Mastery: Her main weapon is a gigantic axe that appears extremely heavy to wield, but due to possessing above-average strength, she is able to easily swing it around to land heavy blows on Kaijus.
Defense Force Combat Suit[]
Enhanced Suit: Kikoru, unlike the others, was already able to unleash nearly 50% of the combat suit of the Defence Force's power in only her first time wearing it, reaching 46%. This level was even mentioned to attain the level of a platoon leader by Soshiro Hoshina, a highly powerful member himself.
More senior members have also acknowledged her abilities which shows her to be capable to face against both Yojus and Honjus solely.
Her powers risen so quickly that she was even given the permission to wield her own weapon in battle, something that members of the same rank would not be granted permission to do. Her talents even reminded him of his memories of her deceased mother, Hikari Shinomiya.
The increase of her power naturally did not stop there after she received a training session from Gen Narumi, the captain of the strongest division within the organization, now capable of using 84% of her battle suit.
Equipments[]
- Battle Axe: Though members typically have to reach the rank of a captain to receive their own weapons, Kikoru was offered a giant battle axe with a blade emitting a golden color that was crafted from a honju-type Kaiju that attacked Shinagawa 2 years prior.
Squadron-Style Axe Techniques[]
- Number 1: Falling Thunder: By pressing a trigger situated on the end of the weapons, Kikoru can increase the pressure to increase the impact she sends on her targets, unleashing a thunder-like beam as the axe lands on a target, like the name of the attack suggests.
