The Crewmates are the main protagonists of the 2018 video game Among Us. They are the main victims of the Impostors, and will team up with each other to find out who the Impostor is.
Appearance[]
When alive, the characters are presented as humanoid beings, wearing a spacesuit. They have small legs, and don't seem to have arms, although they do have hands. Behind their backs is what appears to be a backpack, the use of which is unknown. According to the scanner, they are a meter tall, and have a blood type similar to humans. Their suit has a visor to see.
When killed, the crew member transforms into a ghost, and his body stays put. No matter how he dies, his corpse will always consist of his lower body, as well as a huge bone.
Ghosts are beings having the same appearance as the living, except that they have no legs, and they float. They are also transparent.
Both Crewmates and Impostors can be in one of eighteen colors, chosen by the player: Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Pink, Orange, Black, White, Purple, Brown, Cyan, Lime, Maroon, Rose, Banana, Grey, Tan and Coral. The players' accessory colors can also be customized.
Biography[]
Gameplay[]
The main goal of the Crewmates are for the players to complete tasks, while not being killed by an Impostor. Their other goal is to keep a sharp eye for the Impostors, watching for any strange behaviors that only an Impostor would perform. Crewmates, when killed or wrongfully ejected from the level, will become ghosts. As ghosts, they can still complete tasks, see other ghosts, and still offer mild forms of help, but cannot interact with or be seen by the other players, including chats. However, ghosts can still chat with each other.
There are two ways the Crewmates can achieve victory: all the tasks being completed before the Impostors kill all or most of them, or all Impostors being ejected from the level. Impostors that disconnect from the game or end up being kicked by the host will still count toward a Crewmate victory.
Crewmates can also report a dead body they come across, which creates a chatroom for all players to communicate, where they may try to deduce who the Impostor(s) is/are. The same type of chatroom can be created if a player calls a meeting, which will likely have plays chat for the same aforementioned purpose. In both reporting and calling a meeting, players can vote on which player - that is assumed to be an Impostor - to eject. They can also choose to abstain. Note that an unfortunate Crewmate can be wrongfully voted out this way, which is often caused by Crewmates acting suspicious, or are in the wrong place at the wrong time.
When Crewmates are completing tasks, they must interact with a "minigame" that depends on the task. This can leave Crewmates motionless and exposed to Impostors. There are three types of Crewmates that the game randomly chooses:
- Crewmate - The most common, standard and generic type of Crewmate. As mentioned before, they can perform tasks and call discussions.
- Engineer - A Crewmate with the added ability to use vents, an ability shared with Impostors. They can only remain in vents for 30 seconds (though this can be changed in the game's/host settings).
- Scientist - A Crewmate with the added ability of full access to the vitals of all other Crewmates at all times, informing that player which Crewmate is alive or dead instantly.
- Noisemaker - A Crewmate with no unique abilities, but if killed, they will make a sound, notifying other players exactly where and when they died.
- Tracker - A Crewmate with the ability to track other players, making it easier to figure out Impostors and clear others if a shapeshifter kills someone taking on the form of the tracker themselves.
Though Crewmates are meant to play a supportive to other Crewmates, players can choose to be malicious and help their should-be enemy Impostors. They can do this by trying to place the blame on other Crewmates in discussions while supporting the Impostors.
Ghosts[]
Both Crewmates and Impostors will become ghosts when killed. Ghosts can see other ghosts and can phase through walls, and Crewmate ghosts can still complete tasks, still helping with their allies. As mentioned before, living players cannot see ghosts, nor can they see the text chat from a ghost, though ghosts can type to only each other and see chat from living players.
Ghosts also have completely unlimited vision, and can move much faster than living players. Ghosts cannot report dead bodies nor use the emergency button. If the game's settings allow this, the first Crewmate that becomes a ghost will be a "guardian angel", who can protect fellow living Crewmates from being killed for a limited time. Note that guardian angels can also protect living Impostors, helping their enemy.

Trivia[]
- A curious case is when a Crewmate is dead at the same time that a body is reported, so, when the discussion ends, their body will appear at the lobby consequently, leading to another discussion.
- On the back of the Crewmate, there's a backpack that has unknown use.
- When killed, Crewmates do not display any blood or organs aside from certain animations.
- There are two unused player colors within the game's code: fortegreen and olive.
