~ Cyrax to Kuai Liang in Khaos Reigns |
Cyrax is one of the main protagonists of Mortal Kombat 1's DLC Khaos Reigns.
She is voiced by Enuka Okoma.
History[]
In restarting the timeline, Liu Kang wanted to ensure the realms would not fall into the same conflicts as he had previously experienced. In doing so, after seizing control of The Hourglass, Liu Kang forged the destinies of many past kombatants, such as Cyrax, making them a loyal Lin Kuei assassin under Bi-Han's leadership. Additionally, Cyrax is now female, originating from Niger's Aïr Mountains as part of a sub-clan in the Lin Kuei and is a student of Sektor. Through Sektor's progress in this timeline's Cyber Initiative, she and Sektor don cyberized exosuits that grant her similar abilities to her previous timeline counterparts.
Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns[]
Cyrax continues her training under Sektor. They are then sent on a mission by Bi-Han to assassinate his brother for his "treachery" against the Lin Kuei, while hiding the truth from Cyrax. The clan invade the Wu Shi Academy where Kuai Liang's wedding with Harumi is being held. Cyrax spares Harumi's life, but the truth about Kuai Liang is revealed and she turns on Bi-Han and Sektor. The Lin Kuei are repelled and Bi-Han and Sektor are taken into custody.
After Bi-Han and Sektor's trial was interrupted by a Titan variant of Havik that kidnapped Geras, Liu Kang has Cyrax team with Sektor under Kuai Liang's supervision to rescue Geras. They infiltrate Titan Havik's timeline where they encounter chaos variants of other kombatants. While venturing, they stumble across a variant of Johnny Cage and Rain that are part of a rebellion. The group head to the Khaoseum to rescue a variant of Tanya that knows of Titan Havik's timeline. Once at there, they are spotted by a chaos variant of Kenshi Takahashi, Titan Havik's closest lieutenant, and forced to fight in the Khaoseum. Defeating various kombatants, the group escape into a booby-trapped tunnel system known as The Maze and must fight to survive. The get through the tunnels at the cost of Rain's life, where Tanya interacts with a variant of the dragon Orin who teleports the group to Havik's Citadel to rescue Geras.
At the Citadel, the group encounter a transformed Bi-Han, now the chaotic Noob Saibot, who had been transformed by Titan Havik after trying to stop him from taking Geras. They defeat him and the group rescues Geras, retrieve Bi-Han and steal Titan Havik's Kamidogu, artifacts used to shape reality that Titan Havik intended to infuse with Geras's Time Crystals so he could shape the reality of the multiverse into a chaotic, anarchist utopia that he would rule. At the Fire Temple, Liu Kang frees Bi-Han of the chaotic influence but cannot restore his body. The Temple is then invaded by Titan Havik, who destroys most of the Temple and retrieves his stolen Kamidogu.
At The Gateway, Liu Kang and Bi-Han fight off Titan Havik's forces until only Havik remains. Having knowledge of Titan Havik's abilities and thoughts, Bi-Han overpowers the Titan and severs his limbs until his healing factor could not keep up. Wanting to kill the Titan to end the madness, Liu Kang demands him to stand down as Titan Havik's death would destroy his timeline and all timelines the chaotic Titan had merged with. Liu Kang insists on banishing the Titan to the Void, but Bi-Han argues with Liu Kang. Sektor pleads with him to desist, but an enraged Bi-Han attacks Liu Kang but is stopped by Geras. Sektor is amended for her crimes and made the temporary Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei in Bi-Han's absence, but is warned by Liu Kang that further transgressions by the Lin Kuei will result in severe punishment.
Cyrax, still racked with guilt over being deceived, is forgiven by Kuai Liang who offers her to join the Shirai Ryu as its newest initiate.
Powers & Abilities[]
As a cybernetic ninja, Cyrax is well-equipped, both in martial arts involving ninjutsu and weaponry. Cyrax houses a number of weapons in her chest cavity designed for both incapacitating and destroying targets. Compared to the other cyborg ninjas, Cyrax is most associated with bombardment, her arsenal full of timed explosives with a seemingly unlimited supply. She also has access to an 'energy net' capable of incapacitating her targets completely.
Personality[]
While otherwise loyal to her clan, Cyrax is known to be free-thinking and has strong principles, something that gets her looked down upon by Sektor or Bi-Han. Likewise, she is very uncomfortable with the idea of crashing a wedding, even if it's a pragmatic way to kill a target (Kuai Liang), stating that this will be bad for the Lin Kuei's image in general, but Bi-Han pressures her anyway by stating that the Lin Kuei is better off as a feared entity than a respected one.
However, what triggers her defection was that Scorpion reveals to Cyrax the truth about Bi-Han's callous betrayal of his father and selling out of Lin Kuei to enemies of Earthrealm (to which the treasonous Lin Kuei warrior shamelessly confirms). As a result, a horrified Cyrax defects from Sub-Zero and Sektor on the spot, and spends the rest of the story trying to make amends with Scorpion, which she eventually succeeds.
