Pete Hosey is the main antagonist in the 2007 novel Diary of a Wimpy Kid as well as its 2010 movie adaptation. He is a juvenile delinquent who seeks revenge on Greg and Rowley after they disrespected him on Halloween (There are different reasons in the book and film).
He was portrayed by Nicholas Carey in the film.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- Along with his two friends, he is active in crime and has no issue with doing or saying bad to children as well.
- He is portrayed worse than his two friends. What's more, he has no problem playing tricks on them ("Pull my finger").
- Assaulted Greg and Rowley with a firehose on Halloween.
- Tried to assault Greg and Rowley for threatening to call the cops on them.
- In the film, when Greg accidentally scratched his truck, he threatened to rip his and Rowley's arms out.
- In the book, he vandalized Greg's grandma's house as punishment for housing Greg. In the film, he vandalized the Heffleys' house instead.
- He caused Greg and Rowley to get post-traumatic stress from the incident, which made them disguise themselves with the kindergarten children they were walking home as Safety Patrol members so that they would not be caught by Hosey.
- In addition, when Greg had to walk the children home on his own in the rain after Rowley broke his arm and couldn't get his cast wet, he saw what he thought was Hosey's truck and forced the children to hide with him in a ditch, claiming space monsters were going to eat them unless they hid. Mrs. Irvine, a friend of Rowley's mom, saw Greg and mistook him for Rowley since he was wearing his borrowed raincoat. This incident caused a chain reaction leading to the destruction of Rowley and Greg's friendship, in addition to the Safety Patrol suspensions (Rowley's only temporarily, Greg's permanently after the principal found out Rowley wasn't responsible for the incident) later on.
- Threatened to hurt the middle schoolers in the climax of the film if they didn't leave the blacktop.
- Grabbed Greg and Rowley to make sure they didn't flee to try and punish them.
- Forced Rowley to eat the Cheese Touch cheese, a rotten piece of Swiss cheese that was lying there for years.
- In fact, this incident was so scarring to Rowley that it was mentioned he couldn't eat or even say cheese without remembering the incident.
- Was going to compel Greg to eat the Cheese as well.
- Additionally, in the film, Pete did not care about Greg's (made up) allergies and the possibility that he would suffer complications.
- According to Coach Malone, Hosey and his two friends were permanently expelled from the school due to past delinquency and yet they re-entered the school's property without permission.
- While he has a number of funny bits, he is depicted seriously in-universe, in addition to shedding most of the funny moments at the end.
- He is also a Karma Houdini who, except for damage to his car, was not punished enough for his actions.
