Chloé Bourgeois is a major character in Miraculous Ladybug. She is the daughter of the former mayor of Paris, André Bourgeois, and a rival to series protagonist Marinette Dupain-Cheng. A former anti-heroine, Chloé sheds all of her redeeming qualities (except her respect for her mother) and betrays Ladybug by revealing her secret identity.
She was voiced by Selah Victor in the English dubbed version, and by Marie Chevalot in the original French version of the show.
What Makes Her Hated?[]
- Although she seems sympathetic for having been abandoned and neglected by her mother and not having received healthy parenting, this is not played for sympathy.
- To get her own way, Chloé uses her position as the mayor's daughter abuse her authority. This includes blackmailing her school's principal, Mr. Damocles, into suspending Alya Cesaire in "Lady Wifi" and, prior to the events of the show as shown by Marinette's flashbacks, Socqueline Wang in "Derision", for breaking Sabrina's phone, who was recording Marinette getting pranked by Kim.
- Even her childhood friend, Adrien Agreste, doesn't stand her behavior and her villainy.
- In “Origins - Part 2,” she cruelly mocked Ivan for the akumatization he suffered, causing him to be turned into Stoneheart again.
- She drives people to akumatize themselves on a regular basis. One of the more cruel examples was when Chloé locked Juleka in the bathroom.
- She caused her half-sister Zoé to be akumatized into Sole Crusher.
- She tries to ruin the movie the group was making when on top of her she had given up on being in it in the first place.
- She attempts to humiliate Marinette when having a fight with Adrien in "Deflagration."
- She forced Sabrina to do bad things, including going against the values that Officer Roger, her father, instilled in her.
- She had Soqueline expelled, just because she was defending Marinette.
- Out of pure envy that Marinette plays Ladybug in Nightingale's music video, she caused him to almost cancel it, taking away and breaking in the process the microphone that she treasured so much, and as if that were not enough, all she did was laugh in an extremely conceited way, causing the singer to be akumatized due to her broken heart.
- In "Princess Fragrance," she tore up the letter Rose Lavillant made for Prince Ali in her face.
- She endangered several people on a train with her venom for the sole purpose of showing off.
- In "Timebreaker," she took Alix’s watch away from Adrien and refused to gave back and when she press the button of the watch she drops it which gets ram over by Alix’s Rollerblades which deeply left her heartbroken and she angrily took the blame on her friends even though they had nothing to do with breaking her watch but Chole was the one to blame and she tried to foolishly say that she had nothing to do with it.
- Even as a superhero, she still acted rude and arrogant towards people.
- In "Stormy Weather 2," she mocks Aurore Beauréal for her bad grade point average and akumatization, causing her to get akumatized once again in Stormy Weather and almost causes an eternal winter in the world and almost kills everyone. She is also not seen apologizing to Aurore.
- Reveals the secret identities of the other Miraculous holders during the Season 3 finale after willingly choosing to side with Hawk Moth.
- During season 4, Chloé became an even worse bully and shed all of her redeeming qualities.
- She preyed on the insecurities of her half-sister Zoé in an attempt to make her a bully so that she could be akumatized.
- Out of spite and sheer pettiness, she was willing to betray her childhood friend Adrien when she threatened to reveal his relationship to Marinette to Gabriel.
- Although she originally really loved Adrien, it is clear that she lost her love for him.
- She even made a lie about her parents by claiming they abused her, even though they have nothing to do with this.
- She makes racist statements at times, such as saying "no speak Japanese" to Marinette's uncle despite him being Chinese and only speaking the language of her country of origin, then after being corrected and called out, she tells him to go make sushi, then she says the same thing will happen when she makes up her "Kagami kidnapping Adrien and taking him to Japan forever" conspiracy theory, which is odd that a Japanese co-production would allow such blatant discrimination against them.
- She orchestrated a prank for Kim to pull on Marinette, the latter of whom had a crush on and asked out the former on a date to the swimming pool. This prank would later give Marinette trauma of asking someone out of a date and is why she keeps Adrien's full schedule and knows various other things about him.
- When Adrien understands that she will never redeem herself, despite the many chances he gave her to become a better person, he definitively puts an end to his friendship with Chloé. Later, Sabrina ends her "friendship" with her too.
- Even Félix Fathom (Adrien's cousin) despises her. Under his super-villain form, Argos, he qualifies Chloé as oppressor and erased her from existence with Red Moon.
- Her father is also fed up with her pettiness and her selfishness.
- In "Confrontation," she doesn't care at all that the Director is akumatized, and in later episodes, she doesn't care about Ms. Bustier's pregnancy either.
- She takes over Paris at the end of "Collusion" after her father retires as the mayor of Paris. In the very next episode, she is very much shown to be a complete dictator, sentencing anyone she doesn't like into "detention" by abusing the powers she got when she conspired with Monarch, also making her a hypocrite as she outlaws those with superpowers, including Ladybug, Cat Noir and Monarch himself. She denies any democratic elections and intends to stay in power before the Resistance intervenes and saves the trapped Ladybug and Cat Noir. When she completely loses all of her power and is exiled by André to leave for New York with her mother, her last action is to reveal to Marinette that Adrien is leaving Paris to go to London out of spite... only for it to blow up in her face as Marinette tells Chloé she already knew, leading Chloé to be completely left at rock bottom, with everyone in Paris hating her.
- Her defeat is played for satisfaction and is deserved due to her cruelty and everything she put Marinette and everyone in Paris through.
Trivia[]
- She's one of the few Hate Sinks to have a page on the Heroes Wiki.
- Her movie counterpart can't be qualified as Hate Sink because she is less mean and, more kind and caring for others, especially Sabrina, more cautious of her public image and came to respect Marinette by the end after giving up stalking her.
