The Wellspring of Truth (the Fountain of Truth in the Japanese version) is a location in Fire Emblem Awakening. It is found on the continent of Valm. During Paralogue 22, Aversa may be recruited here.
Found in western central Valm, the Wellspring of Truth is a pool hidden deep within a large, ornately decorated fortress. Though Frederick calls it a ruins, the Wellspring of Truth is just as extravagant as the rest of the castle. According to legend, someone who visits this fountain will witness the truth of themselves.
Story[]
When Chrom, Frederick, and Robin enter the fortress, Chrom is openly skeptical about the "local superstition" surrounding the Wellspring of Truth. Yet when Aversa inexplicably appears to Robin, they decide to investigate the wellpring. There, the Ylissean League find the Wellspring of Truth surrounded by mirage versions of themselves and of Aversa. The living Aversa encourages the army to battle themselves, and casting aside his doubts, Chrom leads the charge.
After the battle, if she survived, Aversa looks into the Wellspring of Truth and remembers the past that Validar had once stripped away from her: the man had killed everyone she knew and loved, then pretended to be her savior to abuse her talent for Dark magic. Feeling the full weight of the atrocities she committed for Validar, Aversa swears to kill Grima to save others from suffering her fate at the hands of the Grimleal. Chrom asks her to join his army, and she agrees, joking about their unlikely alliance.
Trivia[]
- This is the only time in Awakening where the location name is the same as the title of the chapter that takes place there, aside from Grima.
- The Wellspring of Truth is located where Desaix's Fortress stood during Fire Emblem Gaiden.
