The Empty Book is an item that appears in both Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War and Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. Empty Books are essentially magic tomes that have been completely used, and are hence no longer usable until they are repaired.
In Genealogy of the Holy War, Empty Books can be sold for 500G, while they can only be sold for 100G in Thracia 776.
