Slow is a status in Final Fantasy IX that halves the rate the affected's ATB gauge fills, and halving the rate statuses tick or expire. Slow and Haste cannot coexist on the same target. Slow expires after a time and does not persist after battle. Slow is one of the statuses that works on bosses more often than not. Those affected have gray arrows pointing down above their head.
Mechanics[]
The higher the target's Spirit stat, the faster Slow expires. The duration is also affected by the player's Battle Speed setting.
- Duration: (60 - Spirit) * 320
Slow lasts a while due to the inherent reason that slowed targets already double the amount of time ailments afflict them.

Use[]
Slow is a minor hindrance as most of the time actions queue up anyway due to only one unit being able to act at a time but ATB runs during battle animations. However, since Slow works on bosses whereas most other ailments will not, it may be worth inflicting, especially if the player is equipping weapons that have it as an innate trait.
If the player gets inflicted, it is likely not worth using up a turn to heal it, even if Slow takes a long time to expire on its own.
