A vessel that maneuvers others by means of a tow line, generally in a commercial capacity. Tugboats serve to move other vessels that are restricted in their ability to maneuver on their own, such as ships in a crowded harbor or a narrow canal, or those that cannot move by themselves. They appear throughout the waterways of Greater Boston, mostly in the Atlantic but also along the Charles River and shores of the Island.
