Bug Section[]
Pretty sure TGM automatically grants unlimited ammo without the need to reload, no matter how much ammo you have; it's not a bug. This can be removed, right?
To get into the bunker to get the MIRV, you usually have to go through a very long process. However, if you can get to the door to the bunker there is an easy way. Crouch next to the terminal, switch to third person and slowly turn, eventually you should get a message with the "Electrical Switch, press A to activate". If you press this it will open the bunker door with no requirements.
Actual use?[]
Has anyone found an actual use for this weapon?
- I actually found a practical use for it, clearing out the Capitol Rotunda, it emptied out the room one shot :) I targeted the Behemoth in VATS, didn't get a lot of XP though, I guess most of the actual deaths were from splash damage.Draxenato 21:09, January 8, 2010 (UTC)
THE ENTIRE POINT OF THIS WEAPON IS TO FIRE THE THING FROM THE TOP OF TENPENNY TOWER, AS MANY TIMES AS YOU CAN.Pinkynperky04 02:33, November 17, 2009 (UTC)
I am Gunthorian Killer of Radroaches Saviour of the wastes, and well a good waster of mini-nukes, the only real use is killng radroaches at extremely long ranges like say lincon memorial to the washington memorial.Lenov 01:06, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
- Fun? It's certainly more 'useful' than the Miss Launcher. --DarkJeff 21:00, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not gonna bust my butt finding little transcripts scattered across the wasteland for fun. It's also way too expensive to sell to anyone, you'll only be getting a small fraction of it's worth. Not to mention one click of the mouse fires away about 900 caps worth of mini nukes. A fat man itself is already more than enough to kill anything normal guns couldn't. - WeHeartKatamari 02:20, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

I think that it is a waste of Mini Nukes. One good placed Mini Nuke will take out a Behemoth. Shadowman123 22:21, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
- I see no evidence to suggest it was ever intended to be practical. I think it is meant to get a response of "Wow. That was overkill." (with whatever other words and/or punctuation you feel like adding/subtracting).24.174.163.173 01:30, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
- Personally I believe you can never use too much explosives. And I believe the weapon's use doesn't come from the fact that it does a lot of damage, but that the damage is spread out.--Clean Up 14:50, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- I've performed a rocket-jump with this little thing. In the middle of Megaton, the area was a tiny square way down below when the glare faded following the eight-nuke-rocket-jump. Of course, I was very dead, but still, massive overkill.
The Cheat section seems a bit useless...
Perhaps the actual uselessnes of this weapon is some kind of political statement, like "Nobody needs MIRVs". We all see what nuclear weapons can do to us (Setteng of Fallout AND firering a MIRV-blast towards your own feet ;-) ).
^ You're over thinking it man. there is NO POINT WHATSOEVER to the MIRV. Its just fun. Somebody at Beth probably just thought, hey wouldn't it be AWESOME if we made a unique Fatman that fired 8 MINI NUKES AT A TIME!?!?! And everybody else said THATS F***ING GENIUS. Its not a political statement, just delicious, delicious overkill.
I would have to say that it should in fact be used for fun,and for more effectiveness, I would use a combonation of two things on this page:you may enjoy exploding yourself off the balcony of tenpeny tower.NOTICE: you should believe the wise advice below! Have fun >:] (devious smile)--Anonymous
The whole point of this thing is for pure, radioactive fun. Now if you guys will excuse me, I'm going to rocket jump off Tenpenny's balcony....hey, I can see my house from here! TestECull 23:22, April 20, 2010 (UTC)
I found use of it at the drive-in cinema near Andale. I couldn't find any of the raiders' bodies to loot but the 8 mini-nuke explosions by added by the explosions of the cars... I was amazed I had lived! P1 Press Start 17:31, July 1, 2010 (UTC)
A good use for it is too go out with a bang. Say your outnumbered 10+ to 1 and you have no hope of surviving you can fire it and destroy everything with it. just fire it very close to you.

Acronym[]
Actually, it's multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle. --DarkJeff 21:49, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
When I heard it was based off a multiple target vehicle weapon or whatever. I assumed you'd be able to target different enemies and it would simutaniously shoot the nukes at them. Maybe that was it's intended use. But Bethesda R shyt coders?! :O
- Ahh if only you could target eight different individuals, or indeed, one individual (Behemoth) Then it might be practical. Of course that kind of advanced targeting would mean it not being portable. :( Maybe you could've used the active relay dish or something for an emergency back up, so long as you provided lessay the Ghoul Scientist with 8 mini nukes. How she would get them into space would be a different matter. >.> --Vault01 13:53, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
The whole point of the MIRV is just for fun. Stop taking it so seriously, its not meant to be used to ACTUALLY kill anything (other than behemoths maybe). --24.131.25.88 20:32, 22 July 2009 (UTC)Jake

Kill anything?[]
IT most definitely will not kill fawkes when you are at lvl 30, in fact fired about 3 at him and didn't kill him, i've tried killing him, and i always die or get bored and do no damage.Runed scope 04:10, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
I used Vengeance on Level 30 Fawkes , just slaying him 15 mins, using 100 hotkeyed stimpaks before he croaked WastelandAtheist 10:37, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
At level 20 it won't Kill RL-3 either, even though he is a robot.... I'd think the EMP created by nuclear weapons would fry him but I guess not. on the other hand I do have all the DLC's so RL-3 will level with me.
Unlimited XP MIRV.[]
I posted this for all of three minutes on the article, but I'm starting to become scepticle of my own findings I'd like testers for this statement.
"*With the MIRV it is possible to obtain unlimited XP, without repercussions. If you go to a densely populated area such as the Rivet City Market, or other areas where there is a high concentration of people in a small area. you can fire the MIRV and easily kill 70%+ of the people there. Now on it's own this could be good for about 100 XP or so, but if you save before firing the weapon and discharge it so as the trajectory is relatively parallel to the ground the weapon will kill not only many bystanders but you as well. While this doesn't sound like a good idea at first glance, it is actually beneficial. When the game reloads to when you saved before launching the MIRV, you will gain the XP from all the people you killed. Because the area is reloaded though you can save once more and fire the weapon. This will again kill many people as well as yourself, then upon the automatic reload of your save you will acquire the XP from the people you re-killed. All you have to do is save again after the XP gain and you can repeat this an unlimited amount of times."
Now I watch the little bar go up each time I reload like I've gained some serious XP but when I go check the numbers.... I dunno I'd likes some testers, who know what they are doing. I'm using the 360 version too.
Have tried this before does NOT work, I know as I was very close to leveling, did this got the XP I needed however dodn't level up, also I tested by checking my XP before trying and again after the reload: no change. - RASIC 10:30, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Agreed, I have attempted this with multiple weapons, and it "depicts" that you got that xp, but you do not. I think it is the same concept as when you finish a quest and then reload directly after dialogue, when you reload it comes up as a complete or update, but it has not occured yet... Max Damage[]
All right boys,I gotta know:How much damage can this do?absolute max damage,superior defender perk,ghoul Ecology,big Guns of 100,with a shot of psycho:How much?Amaze me! HuangLee 02:36, September 19, 2009 (UTC)
- More damn well than you can imagine. :P Suffice to say that there's nothing you can't kill. Ever. Nitty 02:41, September 19, 2009 (UTC)
That's not a number,you chrimson potato locksmith semicolon eliphrint.(In my world that's an insult,bastard!) HuangLee 02:46, September 19, 2009 (UTC)
1600 (max damage of Fat Man)
Plus 10 damage (Point Lookout perks)
Times 1.3 (30% increase, from psycho and Bloody Mess)
Equals 2093 damage. With the Fat Man. (Behemoth instakill!)
Times 8 nukes equals... 16744, 4744 points more than the base MIRV's 12000. Nitty 02:53, September 19, 2009 (UTC)
Holy FXCK!!!!! HuangLee 02:56, September 19, 2009 (UTC)
Accounting for blast radius, however, you'll need to be at the Washington Monument if you want to shoot the Capitol Building without killing yourself. Nitty 03:00, September 19, 2009 (UTC)
So Bad ass,man,I don't believe it! HuangLee 03:02, September 19, 2009 (UTC)
Let's get hypothetical, shall we? Assume that a critical hit does twice the normal amount of damage.
33488.
In VATS.
Outside of VATS, due to the shotgun spread, each bonus would be applied to each individual nuke.
267904.
With a headshot, plus 50% damage.
401856.
With a sneak attack critical, twice the normal crit damage.
803712.
And Better Criticals.
1,205,568 armor piercing points of damage. Eat your heart out, BFG 9000. Nitty 03:08, September 19, 2009 (UTC)
Jesus! That's probably enough damage to break a fully repaired suit of Winterized T51-B if equipped by ANY NPC.And by "Break" I mean send from 100% repaired to 0%"aww fuck now I GOTTA FIND Crazy Wolfgang"broken.Shit! HuangLee 03:16, September 19, 2009 (UTC)
Actually, the first shot, assuming that the armor is at 100% condition, would deal 542505.6 damage to the armor, and kill the person wearing it. Although DR is not applied to sneak attack criticals on targets, armor's DR reduces the damage it takes. Winter T-51b has 45 DR an 10,000,000 HP. It could probably break the helmet in two shots, though. But only with sneak attacks! Nitty 03:21, September 19, 2009 (UTC)
You can do lots-a-maff!Too much...you're fired. HuangLee 03:25, September 19, 2009 (UTC)
You guys forgot Yao Guai Meat, so, 1,205,568 x 1.10 = 1,326,124.8 Damage. Let's fill the mall with behemoths, shall we?--Hollow Points 00:19, October 12, 2009 (UTC)Hollow Points
Gimme 64 Mini Nukes, and I'll break the Winter T-51b. Nitty 00:22, October 12, 2009 (UTC)
I think it might take a hundred or so, assuming all the Nukes hit. Best. Weapon. Ever. In any game.--Hollow Points 00:32, October 12, 2009 (UTC)Hollow Points
1,326,124.8 x 8 = 10608998.4 which is 608998.4 more points of damage than the Winter armor has HP. Nitty 00:36, October 12, 2009 (UTC)
The 1,326,124 was for all of the nukes, not just one, you silly. Also, the damage is OVER NINE THOUSAND!--Hollow Points 00:42, October 12, 2009 (UTC)Hollow Points
WHOAH WHOAH WHOAH SLOW DOWN HERE, FOLKS!!!
The math on this section is way off. PL perks only add 10 damage total, not to each nuke. So, that makes it 20+1600*8 instead of 10 + 1600 * 8. Calculate that, then multiply it by (1.05*1.1*1.25) (bloody mess, yao guai meat, psycho). Double it b/c if you perform a sneak attack and all nukes hit (unlikely, but oh well). The MIRV DOES NOT CRITICAL HIT making unaffected by Better Criticals. You can't headshot with the MIRV (too inaccurate) but if you could it would not reach the amounts of damage shown above. All of you must be on LSD or something, or just suck at math. The MIRV will kill anything (except maybe Fawkes/Dogmeat thanks to BS lvl up bug) on any difficulty, at any condition, with a semi decent big guns skill. My calculations yeild 37 017.75 damage. So there, that might kill fawkes on normal difficulty if he has no DR. 98.249.221.165 02:42, November 7, 2009 (UTC)
...lol..everyone's doing math, about 20 different people have already edited...this is probably the most famous discussion topic on this whole f [_] ckin' wiki. Wrpen-99 18:38, February 24, 2010 (UTC)
I was trying to do the math on MAYBE the last working calculator in the capital wasteland and some prick blew it up while I was outside having a smoke. Thanks hero.Atlas Lied! 22:34, April 18, 2010 (UTC)
Even with the smallest damage estimate this thing could do, you could still take Liberty Prime down with it, assuming he has no DR. You'd only need two volleys. He only has what, 50,000HP or so? I should spawn him and see if I can bring him down with the MIRV. TestECull 04:06, May 22, 2010 (UTC)
Just a word to the wise...[]
(PC) Hey all, Just thought I'd say that if you are blowing yourself upward so as to see the marvolous view of the Capital Wasteland, be cauefull while using the console command "tlc" (essentially no clip.) It seems to crash the game due to its inability to distinguish the gravitational and physical parameters of flinging the player away from the map that fast with no resistance. Have fun :D
I launched myself off Tenpenny Tower so hard I crashed the game without TCL. TestECull 04:04, May 22, 2010 (UTC)
so whats the difference between the fat man and the mriv?[]

I found a bug but I don't want to edit the page and risk screwing it up.[]
If you attempt to fire the Experimental MIRV without enough mini nukes with VATS, it stays in VATS forever. I had to reload exiting from the National Guard Depot in order to not be slain by a Super Mutant Overlord with a Gatling Laser. It wouldn't let me out of VATS and the Super Mutant kept shooting me to near death before I loaded a previous save.
