Legendary cores are a discontinued form of currency and miscellaneous items in Fallout 76, introduced in the Steel Reign update. With the release of the Milepost Zero update, remaining Legendary cores were converted to Legendary scrip at a conversion rate of 1:1,[1] and Legendary modules have replaced Cores in activity rewards and Legendary crafting.

Resembling a fusion core, Legendary cores used to add Legendary effects onto non-Legendary weapons, armor, and power armor at the appropriate crafting workbench. Additionally, they were used to reroll the pre-existing effects of most Legendary items. This would, however, completely remove any existing effects.
Locations[]
Legendary cores used to be obtained by completing public events, seasonal events or Daily Ops. Additionally, they may be redeemed as scoreboard rewards. Double Mutation Weekend events for Daily Ops will award double the Legendary cores, and will continue to reward them on subsequent completions.
Behind the scenes[]
- Legendary cores were initially introduced as three items - 1-star, 2-star and 3-star cores. Due to oversights and the overall complexity, this was replaced in favor of a single currency system early in the Steel Reign PTS cycle.
- As a result, there are unused files for 2-star, 3-star and 4-star cores - each adding an additional star and progressively becoming more polished.
Bugs[]
MISC tab of the Pip-Boy rather than in the CURRENCY section.[verified]
