Area 2 is a mentioned-only location in Fallout: New Vegas.
Background[]
Formerly an ammo depot run by the United States Armed Forces before the Great War, it contained a large amount of military weaponry and ammunition, including heavy ordnance, artillery, and nuclear weapons.
Around 50 years before 2281, after the tribe known as the Boomers settled in Nellis Air Force Base following their exodus from Vault 34, they found the location and necessary information to open the weapons storehouses within the base's records.[Non-game 1] An expedition was sent out to Area 2, and they spent many weeks dragging the stockpile, including several howitzers, back home. The expedition would also mark the first and final time any of the Boomers set foot outside Nellis since they arrived there.[1]
Appearances[]
Area 2 is mentioned in Fallout: New Vegas and its game guide.
Behind the scenes[]
Area 2 is a real-world location of the same name, located within the Nevada Test Site in the Mojave Desert. The real-world Area 2 is located 18 miles southeast of Area 51 and is part of Nellis Air Force Base.

Pete: "You're right, they weren't here when we discovered Nellis! We found the guns at a huge weapon depot called Area 2, many miles from here! It took many weeks to drag the guns and their ammunition back to Nellis - and it was the last time any of us set foot beyond our homeland!"

Fifty years ago, a group of Vault 34's dissidents struck out on their own and started using Nellis as a base. Over a long period of time, they eventually decided to call Nellis their home. They learned a great deal of information from the records at Nellis and used that information to open the weapons storehouses at (currently unknown locations called) Area 2 and the Hawthorne Army Depot. The result of their efforts was an enormous stockpile of heavy ordnance, artillery, and small nuclear weapons."
