Monty is a monster caretaker in Dragon Quest V and a recurring character in the Dragon Quest series.
Appearances[]
Dragon Quest III HD-2D[]
Only appearing in the game's HD-2D Remake, he instructs Erdrick and the party to send any friendly monsters his way for his stable.
Dragon Quest V[]
First encountered during the second generation of the game in Fortuna, Monty states that the Hero has profoundly sincere eyes and is confident that he will be able to tame monsters, allowing them to join his party. After explaining that the Hero needs to fight with love in his heart to get a monster's attention, he suggests purchasing a wagon from Fortuna's curiosity shop to accommodate the new recruits. Monty maintains additional dens in Lodestar Harbour, Castle Gotha, and even as far as Precaria. Up to 50 monsters can be left in his care in the SNES version, and 80 in subsequent releases. While staying with him, a monster can be released or renamed but they will not gain any experience points. In the SNES original, the Hero can tame monsters before speaking to him, though in the remakes from the PS2 version onwards, he must talk to Monty before taming monsters.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince[]
A version of Monty reappears in The Dark Prince, saving Psaro from the Beleths with his Pteranodon, Drooling ghoul, and Abracadabrador companions during the monster attack on Rosehill and explaining to the future Master of Monsterkind that he will have to become a Monster Wrangler in order to fight. Wanting to teach Psaro the basics, he was interrupted by Fizzy, an old acquaintance of his, and let her take the lead in Psaro's teaching, returning to Rosehill. After Psaro began learning how to be a Monster Wrangler, Monty suggested for him to enter monster tournaments at Endor's arena, in order for Psaro to be recognized as a serious threat by his father. Later, Monty became the operator of the monster synthetizing system, supporting Psaro by allowing him to create more powerful companions. Monty was also the one managing the Tinkering Toolbench, which allowed Psaro to tinker with his accessories.
Monty also appears as the very last opponent in Endor Arena's Category Rank S tournament. His team consist of: a Goomulonimbus, a Great dragon, a Prism peacock and a Ronin Raccoon.
