Plot[]
The Dark Prince is an alternate perspective storyline based on Dragon Quest IV. It begins with Psaro attempting to take care of his sickly human mother. He confronts his demon father Randolfo who places a curse on him. This curse prevents Psaro from hurting other monsters, so he eventually learns how to recruit his own monster team to fight for him. Psaro makes his way through the world of Terrestria which has ever changing seasons. Eventually he takes part in a monster tournament in Endor Colosseum where he meets Rose. She joins him on his journey after he saves her from abusive humans.
The duo travel through many Circles of Nadiria. Each realm of the underworld has a vastly different setting, characters, and storyline. They meet Toilin whom also joins them on their quest to defeat the Big Hitter of each location so that Psaro can recruit more monsters into his army.

Main Cast:[]
- Psaro - The prince of demons, and son of Randolfo, Psaro was cursed with the inability to cause harm to monsters after a failed confrontation with his father. He now seeks a way to rid him of the curse in order to take revenge.
- Rose - An elven young woman that Psaro met by chance. After being rescued from her captors, and named by Psaro, Rose swore to repay his kindness by assisting him in searching for a cure for his curse, as well as help him during his travels through Nadiria.
- Toilen Trubble - An apparently younger version of the character who previously appeared in Dragon Quest V, Toilen Trubble is a young human researcher of magic with a self-confessed propensity for five-finger discounts, who is travelling Nadiria for magical ingredients not found in the human world.
Human NPCs:[]
- Miriam - Psaro's human mother who taught him many important moral lessons during his childhood. Miriam wished for her son to never meet his cruel father and to live as a human. She had fallen deathly ill and when Randolfo refused to assist, Psaro decided to instead wrestle Nadiria's throne from him.
- Monty - A former Monster Wrangler master who took Psaro under his wing after he was cursed. After several failed attempts to lift said curse, Monty introduced Psaro to Monster Wrangling.
- Solo the Hero - The protagonist of Dragon Quest 4. He leads a group known as the Chosen.
- Ragnar McRyan - A brave knight and a member of the Chosen. Healie knows him.
- Alena - A strong martial artist princess who is a member of the Chosen.
- Kiryl - A priest who is in love with Alena and is also a member of the Chosen.
- Borya - An old mage member of the Chosen.
- Torneko Taloon - A merchant with a family. He is a member of the Chosen.
- Maya - A magical dancer trying to get revenge on her father's killer. She is the older sister of Meena and a member of the Chosen.
- Meena - A fortune teller trying to get revenge on her father's killer. She is the younger sister of Maya and a member of the Chosen.
Monster NPCs:[]
- Zenith Dragon - A legendary dragon that watches over the world to help prevent calamity. Has saved the world from Estark in the past.
- Sparkie - A young dragon.
- Fizzy -An old associate of Monty back during his Monster Wrangler career, Fizzy is a showy and a little eccentric monster, ever in search for the next big star to coach to the top of the Monster Wrangler stardom.
- Healie - A Healslime transformed into a human.
- Duffer (originally named Psaro's Pawn in DQ4)
- Eileen the Winky
- Sir Percival (originally known as Sir Roseguardin in DQ4) - A monster knight who swears his loyalty to Psaro after Psaro helps him assassinate his previous master.
- General Chayne - A monster that finds young Psaro near the start of the game. He eventually returns as a member of Zangiel's army.
- Zangiel the Omniarch - A kind demon lord that fights against Randolfo in hopes for a better future. He eventually entrusts Psaro with his army.
Major Villains:[]
- Randolfo the Tyrant - Current Master of Monsterkind and ruler of Nadiria.
- Dolph - First-born son of Randolfo. Psaro's older half brother.
- Aamon - Randolfo's traitorous royal advisor, Aamon conspire to take throne for himself after using Psaro as a pawn against Randolfo.
- Estark - One of the Unholy Trinity monsters.
Minor Villains:[]
- Furgil - A Meowgician and talent spotter extraordinaire for the Monster Mauling Association, he approaches Psaro as soon as he begins to rise in fame as a Monster Wrangler, and offers him to travel through the shadowy Nadiria. In truth, his role as a talent spotter was a lie, as he is really Aamon's assistant,
- Three dragon brothers known as the Brimstone Boys (one of them is named Rashaverak in DQ4).
- Ludo - Third born son of Randolfo. Psaro's younger half elf brother.
Gameplay[]
Over the course of this adventure, the seasons will regularly cycle through Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter, which not only changes the landscape, but also opens new areas and players will encounter different monsters specific to that season. Also, some monsters may show up only while raining.
One of the most powerful tools in the player arsenal is the newly evolved synthesis system which allows players to create completely new monsters by combining those already on their roster. Players can experiment and eventually unlock over 500 monsters, including franchise favorites, dark lords, and completely new creatures.
Once players have assembled their dream roster, they can take their teams of powerful monsters online, to battle against other Monster Wranglers around the world.
