"The Pit" is an episode of the Disney+ series Star Wars: Visions and is animated by D'art Shtajio and Lucasfilm Ltd.
Synopsis[]
A fearless young prisoner, forced to dig for kyber by the Empire, plans a risky escape for he and his people.
Plot[]
Stormtroopers lead a group of prisoners out into the middle of the desert and order them to dig. Time passes and the prisoners discover that the pit contains kyber crystals. They continue to dig, presumably for years, before hitting dead rock. The stormtroopers proceed to pack up everything and leave the prisoners in the now large and inescapable pit to rot. A man named Crux tells a younger girl named Livy that he plans on escaping and to get help from a city nearby, explaining to her that those who "follow the light" will come and help.
The next day, Crux manages to escape the pit with the help of the armadillo-like wildlife and runs all the way to the city asking for help. No one will notice him so he gets on a podium to speak, gaining an audience who are unsure of his story. A couple of stormtroopers spot and chase him before stunning him. They carry him back out of the city and to the pit where they promptly toss him down to his death. Livy and her mother are devastated, but Livy remembers to "follow the light" and leads the pit dwellers in a chant to "follow the light".
A procession from the city comes, having heard the chant echoing from the pit, and despite the stormtroopers attempts to turn the citizens away, they push through to see everyone. Outnumbered and defeated, the stormtroopers leave and the citizens use the ships left behind to rescue everyone from the pit, the last person leaving being a graffiti artist. As Livy and her mother are flown away, it is revealed that she kept one of the kyber crystals for herself which begins to shake and turns blue, implying that Livy is destined to be a Jedi.
In a post-credits scene, an armadillo creature sees the graffiti artist's work depicting a mural of Livy, Crux and the pit dwellers.
