"Hop-Popular" is the second segment of the twelfth episode of Amphibia. It premiered on July 4, 2019.
Synopsis[]
After losing his stand, Hop Pop decides to run for mayor of Wartwood.
Plot[]
Hop Pop is still depressed from losing the stand and the Plantars are quickly running out of money. Anne, presents him with a help wanted ad for greeters at the Grub & Go. As Hop Pop applies, he learns from One-Eyed Wally that re-elections are coming up and that Mayor Toadstool is running again. Hop Pop begins pointing out all the troubles with Wartwood and criticizing the state of things (such as the deep holes in the snailways, the buildings falling apart, and the schoolhouse still not being replaced after last year's millipede infestation). As he demands that actual change be done, the citizens quickly nominate Hop Pop for mayor. Hop Pop happily returns home to tell the kids that he is running. While confused, Anne, Sprig and Polly agree to do everything they can to support him as they fear that if he loses, he will become even more depressed.
The election consists of trials that the candidates have to partake in. The first involves mounting a beetle, the second involves figuring out what baby birds want, and the third involves surviving in the wild naked and finding the way back to town. Hop Pop manages to outdo Toadstool in all the categories, much to everyone's delight. Toadstool stoops to low tactics by offering Hop Pop with a deal: if he tosses the election, he will be given a new stand tax free and get center stage in the market square. Hop Pop is conflicted with Anne and Sprig telling him to continue running while Polly tells him to take the deal. Regardless, they will support him no matter what.
The final trial is a straight up boxing fight between the two. Toadstool proceeds to beat down Hop Pop, but upon seeing encouragement from the audience, gets back up and knocks out Toadstool. The final results are tallied and Toadstool surprisingly wins much to everyone's disappointment. Hop Pop forgot to campaign outside of Wartwood. Despite losing, Hop Pop is still happy as he fought for something he believes in. The entire town pitches in and rebuilds Hop Pop's stand as a thank you for giving them hope.

- Hop Pop finally gets his stand back after losing it in "Plantar's Last Stand".
- Jeremy the Beetle returns from "Sprig Vs. Hop Pop".
- This is the first time the frogs of Wartwood have addressed Anne's species as they had referred to as "beast", "monster," etc. in previous episodes.
- In the mayoral elections, the entirety of Frog Valley has make a vote in the elections rather than just Wartwood, something which Hop Pop was unaware of.
