On March 12, 2020, Disney Parks announced that the original version of the show would close temporarily at Disneyland and Magic Kingdom, due to the COVID-19 outbreak's impact on Florida and California.
On September 2, 2021, following Disneyland Resort's reopening, Disneyland announced that the updated version of the show would return.
On March 18, 2022, following Walt Disney World's reopening, Magic Kingdom announced that the updated version of the show would return, as part of Walt Disney World's 50th Anniversary celebration.
They are a "streetmosphere" show that occasionally plays every day in Main Street, U.S.A. They can be easily differentiated by the color of their outfits and always come in a quartet singing in four part harmony vocal ranges, (Tenor, Lead, Baritone, and Bass).
They normally dress in red, blue, purple and yellow; although sometimes one of them may dress in green. Normally, there are twelve performers altogether hired to do performances, but four actually come out.
On occasion, they are seen with organ chimes, a set of handheld chimes on which they play instrumental songs such as "Baroque Hoedown". Although they do not sound like that of an actual organ, it makes a more exotic sound when shaken.
In the Magic Kingdom, they perform nine sets a day, seven days a week. Two differences between both parks is that the Magic Kingdom Dapper Dans do not wear name tags, unlike the ones at Disneyland Park, and at the local barbershop, they function as working barbers as well where your hair can be done by them while they are serenading.
In the morning, they can be seen riding a horse drawn trolley and all over Main Street in the afternoon. At 5pm, they join the Main Street Philharmonic. They also join the Flag Retreat Ceremony.
Other parks[]
A French version of the Dapper Dans have performed at Disneyland Paris from 1992 until 2001, although their named hairdressers remains in operation. A Cantonese version performed at Hong Kong Disneyland from 2007 until 2008.
Seasonal variants[]
During the Fourth of July, the Dans' outfits are stylized like the American flag. They wear blue trousers, red waistcoats, and blue bowties while their straw hats gain red, white and blue stripes near the brim, and will sing such patriotic songs.
During the Halloween season, the Dans wear orange waistcoats, black trousers and bowties, and black bands around their elbows and armpits. Sometimes, they will transition into the "Cadaver Dans" and dorn some ghoulish attire. They will sing numerous songs about or sung by villains, and sometimes other songs such as "This is Halloween" or "Grim Grinning Ghosts".
During the holiday season, the Dans wear red waistcoats and trousers, and green bowties. The Magic Kingdom Dans also don a flower decoration on their right (which is where their nametag would be at Disneyland). During this time, they sing some Christmas-oriented songs.
In Disney Speedstorm, the Dapper Dans appear as a single Common Crew Member in the Walt Disney World Collection, currently only usable by Figment. When equipped, the Dapper Dans improve the racer's top speed and handling stats, and increase the power of the Cloak skill. The Dapper Dans (as well as any other Crew Members in the Walt Disney World Collection) are currently only available through limited-time special events alongside Figment.
