Tower of Frozen Waves is an event in Cookie Run: OvenBreak. It began on June 30th, 2020 to coincide with the release of Captain Ice Cookie. This event is based on the episode of the same name in LINE/Kakao Cookie Run.
Gameplay Details[]
Ascend the Tower of Frozen Waves and collect Memory Fragments for rewards!
Like the original Tower of Frozen Waves, the Tower is split into finite stages, called Floors, where score is irrelevant and different objectives must be completed and the Ice Door at the end of the stage must be reached. Unlike the original Tower and the Island of Memories, there are no special missions, instead the objective is to collect Memory Fragments hidden in each stage. Most Memory Fragments require solving puzzles and exploring to collect, a departure from typical Cookie Run design. The level may change depending on the path chosen, and some Memory Fragments are bought with other Jellies such as Frozen Bear Jellies or Rainbow Bear Jellies, or found in chests opened with keys that must be found first.
Finishing a stage and collecting at least one Memory Fragment unlocks the next stage and a cutscene showing the story of Captain Ice Cookie, Peppermint Cookie and Sorbet Shark Cookie ascending the Tower.
There are ten Floors, far fewer than the one hundred of the original. Collecting all thirty Memory Fragments unlocks a Hard Mode, where an additional two Memory Fragments are added to each stage and the stages are rearranged to accommodate them. Collecting all of these changes the stages again with a new tileset and adds two more fragments to each, for seven Fragments per stage and 70 total. Collecting all 70 gives an epilogue cutscene.
Falling into pits is an automatic failure on every stage of the Tower, as the Cookie is unable to be rescued, even using Pets or Treasures such as Little Ghost, Rocket Firecracker and Carrot Pudding Trampoline. Half of the stages additionally disable Cookie and Pet skills, though Treasures are never disabled.
General Strategy[]
Because the score is not important, skills can be focused more on mobility and defense. Bubble Gum Spring Jumpers can help the player avoid pits and provides a shield if enhanced, and Divine Guardian Shield provides multiple shields and a magnet, though magnetic abilities do not affect Memory Fragments. Cookies and Pets chosen are not particularly important as long as they have enough Energy to make it to the end of the stage but note that some transformation or speed boosting abilities may make collecting Memory Fragments harder or impossible. Ninja Cookie is a good choice on all stages where Cookie abilities are active due to his multiple jumps, high Energy, and straightforward skill, and Lemon Cookie is also useful on stages where collecting Jellies is necessary, though his speed when Blasting can cause the player to over or undershoot Memory Fragments. Angel Cookie can be useful for collecting Jellies since this Cookie has a magnetic effect and normal speed while blasting.
Floors[]
First Floor[]
An introductory floor without many pits or vertical movement. Blast Jellies and other Power Jellies are present, and Keys and Frozen Bears need to be collected for Memory Fragments.
Abilities Enabled?
Memory Fragments:
- Normal Mode: Tip: "Find the keys that are scattered around!"
- Found in a chest; both the chest and key are in plain view directly on the path.
- Found in a chest in plain view; key pieces are found amidst obstacles in Giant Mode, above the obstacles at the end of the Blast after Giant Mode, and on a platform before Rainbow Bear Jellies.
- Bought by collecting at least 160 Frozen Bear Jellies before touching it at the end of the floor.
- Hard Mode:
- After the second Normal Mode fragment a trail of Rainbow Bear Jellies lead upward and offscreen, Ninja Cookie or Bubblegum Spring Jumpers must be used to follow them. The Memory Fragment is on top of a wall.
- A section with green levers has been added to the end of the stage, hitting them all will spawn the Memory Fragment.
- Expert Mode: Tip: "Concentrate and follow the Frozen Bear Jellies."
- A new segment with a boss enemy has been added, and three key pieces are found on the path to open a chest.
- Bought by collecting at least 700 Frozen Bear Jellies before touching it at the end of the floor. Magnetic or Jelly collection abilities are recommended.
Second Floor[]
The second floor has a Coin trail with single Bear Jellies scattered around, collecting Bear Jellies is required to unlock the Memory Fragments. Magnetic abilities like Lemon Cookie or Angel Cookie are recommended. Rainbow Bear Jellies are available to unlock as well. This stage is the first to feature trampolines.
Abilities Enabled?
Memory Fragments:
- Normal Mode: Tip: "Do not miss even the smallest Jelly."
- Bought by collecting 20 Yellow Bear Jellies before the first large Potion.
- Bought by collecting 20 Pink Bear Jellies before the second large Potion.
- Bought by collecting 20 Frozen Bear Jellies before the end of the stage.
- Hard Mode:
- Bought by collecting 30 Pink Bear Jellies before the second large Potion. The second Memory Fragment has been moved to earlier.
- Bought by collecting 30 Frozen Bear Jellies before the end of the stage. The third Fragment has been moved to earlier, and one of the Frozen Bears is bought with 200 Coins.
- Expert Mode:Tip: "Do not miss even the smallest Jelly."
- The floor becomes harder with falling platforms. The sixth Memory Fragment is bought by collecting 30 Yellow Bear Jellies.
- Bought with 10 Rainbow Bear Jellies at the end of the stage. A new section at the end contains most of the Rainbow Bear Jellies, some are flying with snowflakes that arc above the Cookie's head, some are very high up and require landing on the barely-visible trampoline in a pit to reach.
Third Floor[]
This floor has buttons with numbers written above them in Yellow Bear Jellies. The numbers of the correct buttons to hit are hinted earlier, which will make key pieces or Memory Fragments fall down. Even if buttons are missed and the Fragment doesn't fall, Ninja Cookie can jump high enough to grab it off-screen. A magnet ability can make it difficult to read the number of hints before the Jellies are collected. The stage also features zip lines.
Abilities Enabled?
Memory Fragments: Tip: "The hint for which button to press has already revealed itself."
- Normal Mode:
- At the second set of numbered buttons, press buttons 1, 4, 6, and 9.
- On the last zip line, let go early by pressing Slide when the Cookie reaches a green arrow to drop on the Fragment.
- Press all of the smaller green buttons after the zip lines.
- Hard Mode:
- The zip lines have been moved to earlier in the stage, when one has a sharp incline over ice blocks, walk through the ice blocks or drop from the zip line and double jump after touching the Fragment to avoid falling in the pit.
- A randomized mathematics section is added. For the first key piece, the button to press is the number of obstacles the arrow is pointing at. For the second key piece, the numbers to press are written in coins- Giant Gold Coins for the hundreds digit, gold coins for the tens digit, and silver coins for the ones digit. For the final key piece, an addition, subtraction or multiplication problem is written using Coins the same way as the previous piece, and the solution is the buttons to press. Pause the game to get a good look at the hint and switch to a notepad or calculator app if the player needs to. The Chest is after the buttons for this problem.
- Expert Mode: Tip: "Perhaps all the green levers need to be activated?"
- Two new segments with levers are added at the end. In the first one, all the green levers must be hit. The lever in a pit will rise and have a solid ground in front of it. Hitting all the levers will make the Memory Fragment fall onscreen before the second segment.
- The second lever segment requires hitting all the green levers and avoiding red levers.
Fourth Floor[]
The first floor to disable Cookie and Pet abilities. Jelly Worm enemies are present, and some of them hold Memory Fragments. They are destroyed with Destruction Jellies.
Abilities Enabled?
Memory Fragments:
- Normal Mode: Tip: "Those hungered insects stole the Fragment! Apprehend them at all costs!"
- The fourth Destruction Jelly is placed between Jelly Worms, touching it will melt a Jelly Worm on an upper ledge who is holding the Fragment.
- Hit all the levers and then when the path splits in three, hit the lever in front of the row of Jelly Worms that have a worm holding the Fragment. It has a different, animated expression and the Fragment is visible inside it.
- After the section with split paths and small potions, the third Memory Fragment is obtained in the same manner as the second.
- Hard Mode:
- A dark segment has been added to the stage after the normal mode segments. Yellow glowing orbs can be touched to make it brighter. When four orbs are placed on the sides of a pit, this is a hint to drop down into the pit for a small Potion and the Memory Fragment.
- Later in the dark area is two Extra Jump Power Jellies in mid-air below a light. Grab them to jump upwards to a Destruction Jelly that melts a Jelly Worm which holds the Fragment.
- Expert Mode: Tip: "Somethings only appear in the light! Go forth!"
- The dark segment is extended, with Jellies arranged to look like an anglerfish. After some small platforms, when the player gets to the next area of solid ground, there is an upper path which is led to by Extra Jumps. Staying on the upper path of narrow platforms and Rainbow Bear Jellies without falling leads to a Jelly Worm and a Destruction Jelly to melt it and take its Memory Fragment.
- Right after the last Memory Fragment are long pits with Rainbow Bear Jellies above them and Extra Jump Power Jellies to cross them. Before the third long gap, where the path of Rainbow Bear Jellies angle downwards, going upwards instead of across leads to the final Memory Fragment which can be taken from a Jelly Worm using a Giant Jelly.
Fifth Floor[]
A stage with many zip lines and a section with many chests and only one correct choice.
Abilities Enabled?
Memory Fragments:
- Normal Mode: Tip: "An empty chest will always remain empty. Remember which ones you have opened."
- Collect key pieces on the path, drop down from the zip line above red buttons to collect the final key fragment. A very strong magnet like the Divine Guardian Shield can also grab it without dismounting the zip line. If the buttons are pressed the floor will fall, but if an extra jump ability is equipped this is not a problem.
- Right after the first chest are three key fragments and fourteen chests. Only one of the chests has a fragment, the fourth from the left in the middle row. This is hinted by a moving Coin among a grid of stationary coins, above the key fragments.
- At the peak of a jump during the second Blast section.
- Hard Mode:
- After the second button in the beginning segment, fall into the floor after the next pit and run along the bottom row to grab a Memory Fragment placed in the floor.
- Grab key pieces during the Blast segment or the key to an earlier chest without opening it to open a chest at the end of the stage containing the Fragment.
- Expert Mode: Tip: "An empty chest will always remain empty. Remember which ones you have opened."
- There is a new segment with many chests, this time placed among obstacles and Jellies. The sixth chest, the third in a row at the top of the screen, has the Memory Fragment. Touching any chests removes all keys, so make sure to avoid the other ones.
- Shortly after a Blast Jelly segment are some Extra Jump Power Jellies placed off-screen. A strong magnet and a jump boosting ability are recommended to see and get to them. They lead to Potions and a chest containing the final Fragment.
Sixth Floor[]
This is the only stage with Bonus Time, which can be reached twice in one run. Two Memory Fragments are in Bonus Time. This stage also has Colorful Star Jellies.
Abilities Enabled?
Memory Fragments:
- Normal Mode: Tip: "Search carefully for a Fragment in Bonus Time. Search extra carefully!"
- The first Memory Fragment is directly on the Jelly path near the beginning.
- On the highest path of Bonus Time.
- On the second lowest path of Bonus Time.
- Hard Mode:
- Bonus Time has changed, a Memory Fragment is placed at the end of the first Bonus Time and all paths lead to it.
- Bought by collecting 5 Rainbow Bear Jellies in the second Bonus Time. Lemon Cookie or Paradise Compass is recommended.
- Expert Mode: Tip: "Blast Mode can get you anywhere quickly."
- After the E Alphabet Jellies which normally lead to the second Bonus Time, avoiding Bonus Time brings the player to a Memory Fragment.
- A third opportunity to enter Bonus Time is added, and the Alphabet Jellies bounce up out of pits when buttons are pressed. The E is directly before a very long pit, so Bonus Time must be entered to prevent falling. Right after exiting Bonus Time, jump high to reach Extra Jumps and jump again for the Fragment.
Seventh Floor[]
This stage has minecart segments where a switch can be pressed to switch tracks. An enemy rides along the track ahead of the Cookie, and they should go on the same path as the enemy to avoid obstacles. From this point on, no floors allow Cookie or Pet skills.
Abilities Enabled?
Memory Fragments:
- Normal Mode: Tip: "Follow the horned creature!"
- A key is placed on the last section of track, on the path the enemy takes. The chest with the Fragment is after the track ends.
- Hit a switch to make a path of Coins and a moving Rainbow Bear Jelly appear near the top of the screen, jump where the Rainbow Bear goes to grab an off-screen Memory Fragment.
- On the second minecart segment, grab the Extra Jumps and bounce up where the Rainbow Bears are to go on top of the walls and grab the Fragment. Be careful when dropping back to the main path or the Cookie may fall in a pit.
- Hard Mode:
- A new minecart segment is added after the end of the Normal stage. The second set of five Extra Jumps allows the Cookie to jump over the wall for the Memory Fragment.
- A Rainbow Bear Jelly is visible in a pit during the Frozen Bear Parties, drop into the pit for the Memory Fragment, and a trampoline to come back to the path.
- Expert Mode: Tip: "Sometimes, it is necessary to veer off from the main course."
- Jumping up to where the third Memory Fragment was has moving platforms with Rainbow Bear Jellies where the Cookie previously would drop back down. The third moving platform holds the new Memory Fragment.
- Bought by collecting 620 Frozen Bear Jellies before the end of the stage.
Eighth Floor[]
This stage has Ice Magic platforms that create platforms when the Cookie stands on them, like the cloud platforms seen in Guild Run. Obstacles also appear out of thin air.
Abilities Enabled?
Memory Fragments:
- Normal Mode: Tip: "Everything in this Tower serves a purpose! Take precarious paths to find new ones!"
- After an Ice Magic section with Rainbow Bears, directly on the path.
- When the Ice Magic platforms lead above obstacles, follow them and a gap in the obstacles will be created, and the Memory Fragment will be visible there.
- Go across a series of Ice Magic stairs to get up high, then do large jumps to reach the midair Fragment below the player.
- Hard Mode:
- The new sections of this stage have shiny obstacles that will freeze the Cookie solid. They need to be broken out with rapid taps of Jump and Slide, but these obstacles actually help, as a frozen Cookie will drop straight down, onto potions and the fourth Memory Fragment, which is visible in front of Pink Bear Jellies but hard to reach. If using Treasures, Pets, or Cookies that have shields, break them earlier or there won't be a way to freeze.
- In the segment with frozen walruses, freeze above a downward trail of Rainbow Bear Jellies to reach the fifth Fragment.
- Expert Mode: Tip: "Practice and memory are key. You know what do to."
- Near the top of the second set of Ice Magic stairs, the final step has an X made of Yellow Bears, and dropping between the last two steps without touching the last one leads to an arrow made of Bear Jellies and a platform with the Memory Fragment.
- A section combining the Ice Magic paths and freezing obstacles is added to the end. Surviving it rewards the player with a Memory Fragment left in the open.
Ninth Floor[]
This floor has split paths, where the stage changes drastically depending on which button is pressed. This floor must be played multiple times to collect every Memory Fragment. This is a long stage without Potions, so a high-Energy Cookie and speed or revival Treasures help.
Abilities Enabled?
Memory Fragments:
- Normal Mode: Tip: "The fork leads to different riddles. Unravel the true riddle to find the Fragment."
- Bounce on a trampoline placed right above a pit to knock the Memory Fragment onscreen.
- In section 2-1, the bottom path, the Memory Fragment is moving along with snowflake obstacles placed below a row of Coin Magic Jellies which clear the path to the Fragment.
- In section 2-2, the top path, there are sets of small green buttons. Some of the buttons are very subtly taller and stick out of the ground more, these buttons will spawn Rainbow Bear Jellies while the other buttons do nothing. The Memory Fragment is bought by collecting 10 Rainbow Bear Jellies, and the Treasure Saber of Virtue can turn one Rainbow Bear Jelly into two, making it easier if some buttons are missed.
- Hard Mode:
- Hard Mode adds a split path in section 1. The top path, 1-2, is suddenly very fast. The Memory Fragment is not hidden, but it is in mid-air near the end and is easy to miss with the fast speed, especially if any Blast Jellies are collected.
- Hard Mode also adds a section 3-1. Grab the Extra Jumps or use Bubblegum Spring Jumpers to rapidly jump to a button, which spawns a lever that must be hit to create solid platforms, or else the Cookie will fall in the pit. The Memory Fragment is in mid-air after the platforms.
- Expert Mode: Tip: "There is most definitely a path leading forward. Do not miss it."
- The entire stage has been replaced, now with a single split at the beginning and sections labelled 4-1 and 4-2. The 4-1 section, the bottom path, has most of the level, and the Memory Fragment is bought with 70 Rainbow Bear Jellies at the end.
- 4-2 is much shorter, but difficult, as the Cookie needs to cross a large pit using platforms that are invisible until the player lands on them. Bubblegum Spring Jumpers and Luxury Red Carpet to create floors greatly help here. Surviving to the end gives a Memory Fragment.
Tenth Floor[]
The final floor is dark for most of the floor in Normal Mode, and is again rather long, though there are Potions.
Abilities Enabled?
Memory Fragments:
- Normal Mode:
- Early on in the stage, one of the falling ice blocks with a sleeping dinosaur inside will break open the floor, revealing a Memory Fragment and some Extra Jump Jellies. It is easy to miss, but the floor can be quickly restarted from the pause menu.
- When there is a series of flat platforms with Frozen Bear Jellies, drop between the platforms to land on a chain of Extra Jump Jellies that lead to the Memory Fragment.
- Once the player leaves the darkness and enter the speed segment, the path will be split three ways, with different Jellies on each path. The Jellies shown on the platform before the splits show the correct path to take, and doing it twice leads to the Fragment.
- Hard Mode:
- After exiting the darkness there is a new segment where the Cookie is behind walls. Bubblegum Spring Jumpers or Perfect Landing Book can help with showing the player's position from the point messages. As shown by a hint at the beginning, follow the windows with Frozen Bear Jellies to stay on the right path to get to the Memory Fragment.
- After the speed segment is a new mathematics segment, with numbers written in Bear Jellies like the Coins on the third floor. Frozen Bear Jellies are the hundreds digit, Pink Bear Jellies are the tens digit, and Yellow Bear Jellies are the ones digit. As soon as the full hint appears, pause the game to view it. If the pause menu blocks something important, remember that the player has three seconds after resuming before the Cookie actually moves, and one can pause the game again before the timer ends to prevent them from moving. The final problem is a multiplication of two-digit numbers, which requires a notepad, calculator, or impressive mental math skills, and rewards the player with a Fragment.
- Expert Mode: Tip: "The true path lies hidden in the dark."
- A second segment behind walls is added, this time in the dark. Again following the Frozen Bear Jellies leads to the Fragment.
- A new mathematics segment also in the dark is added after the original math segment. Pause the game when running underneath the platform containing the problem so the player can see the problem on the pause screen. Solving three problems in the dark gives the final Memory Fragment of the Tower.
