"Heatwave Holiday" is a Christmas-themed segment from the seventeenth episode of the animated series Garfield and Friends, and the second Christmas television production based on the comic strip Garfield.
Synopsis[]
It is the middle of the hottest day of July, and everyone's roasting in the heat. In an attempt to get cool, Garfield decides the best way to handle it is to use Jon's freezer to create a blizzard in the backyard. When Jon catches sight of this, Garfield then suggests to him that they also put up their Christmas decorations - by thinking it's December and decorating like it is, they can psychologically beat the heat.
However, as people see the decorated house, they become confused, thinking that Christmas has apparently already come. Out of that odd spirit, more and more people decorate their houses until, soon, the entire town is in the holiday spirit, befuddling Jon, Garfield, and Odie. However, everyone's holiday spirit is stopped when a newscast reminds everyone that, indeed, it is actually July.
That night, Garfield is awakened from his sleep by the sound of jingling bells. He goes to the living room, sees a familiar figure there, and points out to him that it actually isn't Christmas, and apologizes for the inconvenience. Garfield goes back to bed, saying, "You'd think of all people, he would know," as we hear a familiar laugh in the distance outside.
