Snowy Mammoth, or Frozen Ocean (カッチンコールのうみ) in PAL regions and Japan, is a level in Ape Escape and Ape Escape: On the Loose.
Description[]
Leaving the prehistoric ages behind, Spike moves onto the Ice Age, where most of the earth's surface was in hibernation state, covered by thick layers of ice and snow. Because of this, the following three stages are set in cold weathers.
Spike first appears in a small climatic station that's home for six monkeys and a massive Mammoth that's been taken captive by the chimps. The frigid sea surrounds the entire island, threatening to freeze anyone that dares to take a dip, an ice statue carved to resemble a monkey's face sits in the start of the level and even Popcicle (Sumner) has taken its sweet time to build some igloos.

Go Catch the Monkeys![]
To move to the next stage you are required to catch 5 out of the 6 monkeys hiding in the island. Perhaps the most difficult to catch is Rickets (Jealout), because he's inside a cage riding on the mammoth at the center of the stage.
In order to take him down it is best to climb on top of the pole near Iced (Tanjobi) and shoot with the Slingback Shooter's explosive ammo until he falls from the cage.
Towards the end of the level, in order to stop the giant digger's blade you have to hit the controlling machine that Denggoy (Laurel) is operating.
Interestingly, this is one of the few stages you can complete from the first playthrough, as you can catch any monkey in the island without the need of additional gadgets.

Time Attack[]
Because of the lineal nature of the stage, there isn't much space to take different routes to your advantage and you have to catch the monkeys mostly in order. To pass Time Attack you only need to catch 4 apes.
If you count with plenty of explosive ammo, you can try your luck catching Popcicle, Iced, Rickets and finally Denggoy, grabbing as many Energy Chips as you can along the way and using the Super Hoop as often as you can.

Trivia[]
- The PAL version of the original Ape Escape mentions a monkey named Hey Hey with the description "He's a monkey", in reference to the 1966 pop rock song by The Monkees, which goes "Hey hey, we're The Monkees!"
- Laurel, from the PAL version of Ape Escape, and his description "Missing partner", could be a possible reference to Laurel and Hardy, the classic comedy duo.
- Lucas, from the PAL version of Ape Escape, who is described as "A menace", is likely a reference to George Lucas, who released Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace 12 days before Ape Escape, with unprecedented hype and media coverage dating back years before.
- Star Wars would be referenced again, much more openly, in Ape Escape 2's Moon Base, and Ape Escape 3's Space-TV Fortress.
- Sly Babbone, mentioned in Ape Escape: On the Loose, and his description "Arnold's rival" is a reference to actor Sylvester "Sly" Stallone.
