The Bubonico is an Infested Shotgun Arm-Cannon that launches a barrage of Toxin blasts from its primary fire, while its Alternate Fire shoots three explosive Viral shots in a burst. The arm-cannon does not have ammo reserves, and instead regenerates ammo.
Characteristics[]
- This weapon deals primarily Slash damage and innate Toxin on its primary fire and Viral on its Alternate Fire.
- Primary fire shoots 7 pellet barrages in a fully automatic fashion.
- Alternate fires a three round burst that explode in a 7 meter radius upon impact with a surface or enemy.
- Initial hit and explosion apply status separately.
- Explosion does not need direct line of sight to deal damage and will penetrate walls.
- This weapon does not use ammo pickups; ammo regenerates over time.
Advantages over other Primary weapons (excluding modular weapons):
- Primary Fire:
- Innate punch through allows hitting multiple targets in line.
- High accuracy.
- Alternate Fire:
- Highest status chance of all primary launchers.
- Pinpoint accuracy.

Notes[]
- Bubonico uses shotgun mods.
- Primary fire has 1.9 meters of Punch Through.
- Alternate fire explosion has a 7 meter area of effect.
- Each shot in the burst consumes 3 rounds (9 rounds per burst).
- Initial hit and explosion apply status separately.
- Explosion has an innate +9s status duration bonus.
- Bonus is applied before other percentage sources of status duration.
- Explosion does not need direct line of sight to deal damage and will penetrate walls.
- Explosion has linear damage falloff from 100% to 50% over 7m.
- Reload has a 1.5 second delay before ammo begins to regenerate. Ammo regenerates at 9 ammo per second; taking 3 seconds to regenerate a fully depleted battery excluding the delay.
- If the magazine is completely emptied, the reload delay is shortened to 0.1 seconds.
- The player is able to perform actions limited to secondary weapons, such as carrying objects or firing during bleedout.
- It is also officially classified as a Shotgun and can be used in missions with Shotgun-Only restrictions.
Known Bugs[]
- Galvanized Savvy is multiplicative to base damage sources on direct hits.
- Handspring and Constitution have no effect on the knockdown caused by Bubonico's alternate fire.
Tips[]
- There are several ways to make use of the Alternate Fire's high critical damage by adding flat critical chance bonuses:
- Adarza Kavat Cat's Eye periodically grants an additive 60% boost to critical chance.
- Smeeta Kavat's Charm periodically grants a fixed 200% critical chance as one of its possible effects.
- With another player using the Mutalist Quanta's Alternate Fire, shooting through the orb adds a flat +25% critical chance, in addition to +25% critical damage and extra Electricity.
- Harrow's Covenant can add up to +50% additive crit chance, or +200% on headshots, after absorbing enough damage.
- A fully ranked Arcane Avenger has a 21% chance upon receiving damage to grant +45% flat critical chance.
- Mesa's Ballistic Bullseye allows for a single bullet and subsequent explosion to gain an additive critical chance bonus, scaling with Ability Strength.
- Citrine's Crystallize spawns a large crystal growth on enemies, shooting the growth inflicts a fixed 300% critical chance.
Trivia[]
- Bubonico is a play on Bubonic plague, one of three variants of Plague best known as the cause of the Black Death.
- Bubonic itself is dervied from Bubo, painful swelling of the lymph nodes around the neck, groin, and armpits.
- Bubonico is the second arm cannon added in WARFRAME.
- Bubonico's Alternate Fire has the highest status chance of all weapons.
- The Bubonico is possibly an infested Grineer weapon, as between the tendrils at the front is an inorganic, trefoil-shaped barrel, similar to the Ogma's demolition cannon.

Patch History[]
Update 37.0 (2024-10-02)
- Fixed Bubonico materials looking noisy and grainy.
Update 33.0 (2023-04-26)
- The following weapons can now be found in their corresponding categories in the Arsenal when searching using the tag “Battery”:
- Bubonico
Hotfix 32.0.2 (2022-09-08)
- Ammo Changes & Review:
When we were reviewing ammo acquisition as a whole for Update 32, we felt weapons with Ammo Regen Rate Overrides, or “Battery,” in particular, needed a place within the ecosystem of change we had established. That said, upon review of feedback, we recognize we were a bit heavy-handed with the changes we made to Battery weapons. We have restored their original values for the time being while we reassess how we can better approach these weapons.
We have restored the original values for the following weapons:
- Bubonico:
Returned ammo regen rate to 9/s from 4.5/sDevelopers made a mistake, ammo regen rate is still kept at 9/s from U32 changes.- Returned Alt fire ammo requirement to 3 from 9
Update 32.0 (2022-09-07)
- Ammo Pick Up
We understand the power fantasy of these weapons is very popular for some, so our first approach was to keep them powerful, but limit how often they can be used by making changes to ammo pick-up.
We also increased the alt fire ammo requirement per projectile:
Bubonico:
- Increased Alt fire ammo requirement from 3 to 9.
- Faster regen rate from empty for 2 secs.
- (Undocumented) Reload delay increased from 0.5s to 1.5s.
Ammo Pickup Overrides
The following weapons now have ammo pickup overrides, meaning they gain less from picking up ammo. This mostly applies to AoE weapons, in hopes that players will become more deliberate with their aim to make the most of their Ammo pools. The following lists the specific ammo pick up overrides per weapon category.
Primary Weapons with Ammo Regen Rates Overrides:
- Bubonico:
From 9/s to 4.5/sDevelopers made a mistake, actual change is from 16.875/s to 9/s.
- Headshot Damage Changes
During playtesting, the ammo changes alone weren’t enough to significantly change things for AoE weapons. So instead of tightening these values to be overly restrictive, we chose to address other factors that make these weapons so strong, such as headshot damage.
Our approach here is two-fold, to reduce the impact of headshots for AOE weapons, but to also make precision headshots pack a larger punch overall.
- Radial damage no longer gains extra headshot damage or triggers headshot conditions.
- This is primarily targeted at the Ignis Wraith - as a “flamethrower” weapon, it’s hard to imagine a blanket of elements being precise enough to target weak points specifically. Explosive projectiles themselves can still land headshots, so there is still a reason to aim with most weapons for maximum damage.
- GENERAL CHANGES:
- Weapon FX Brightness adjustments - The following weapons have had their explosion FX tweaked for teammates:
- Bubonico
- Adjusted the Bubonico’s Alt fire explosion to be reduced for teammates.
- Bubonico
Hotfix 29.10.3 (2021-03-23)
- Fixed the Bubonico having extra large projectiles if they hit scaled up enemies (Exploiter Orb).
Update 29.10 (2021-03-19)
- Fixed the Bubonico vibrating rapidly when displayed via Loadout in the Orbiter’s Personal Quarters display.
Update 29.5 (2020-11-19)
- Introduced.
